To my surprise this item, along with the Scosche I6RCA35A, is all i needed for my 10 year old deck to be ipod compatible. Kudos to the very knowledgeable Crutchfield staff for providing me step by step information as to what i needed, how to switch on the Aux option on the outdated deck, and most importantly, save me $ in not having to replace the existing deck.

This is just what I needed to breathe new life into my 10 year-old Alpine unit. Initially I bought the wrong type of adapter. The newer Alpine units use a different type of connector (Ai-Net), so I got this one instead (8-pin M-Bus) and it works as intended. The sound quality is very good and I don't have to deal with CDs any more.
As previously mentioned, there is an "Auxiliary" setting which must be turned on to enable the input.

High quality, not too short for reaching behind the unit, good intermediate connector to allow an Ipod to be connected to your older stereo/CD unit.

I'm rocking now. The other reviewer forgot a critical step. You have to manually turn your AUX input "ON". These head units are not computers that automatically sense a signal. Anyway, it works great. I am very pleased. I am just a little upset about the cost of the cable. But, crutchfield made up for it by their super fast and good service! thanks

I unplugged my CD changer and plugged this in hoping to use it to play from my MP3 device. The Alpine stereo didn't recognize that anything was there and wouldn't let me select the source. Don't waste your time and money on this product.
