I was excited about the ability to plug in an auxilliary device, and what appeared to be lots of control built in. I am so sorry I wasted my money on buying this and spending an inordinate amount of time installing it before I realized how poorly made and designed this unit is. My observations: 1. The rotary control is cheap and inaccurate and makes setting things a hit-or-miss event. It is also terrible for controlling volume - it is not linear and if you need to turn the volume down quickly, you cannot. 2. The menus are so abstract and the user interface is so bad that I just gave up on trying to customize my sound or many other things. 3. The overall feel of the buttons and the flip front are cheap. I recommend that you do not buy this and I am inclined to never buy another Pioneer product (but I have been a fan for years.)

Easy Solution for iPod integration, UI Needs work, |

I bought this deck due to the price and integrated iPod feature among the overall expandability of the deck. It works with iPod's great right out of the box but navigating the iPod playlists takes some patience as you cannot get to what you need very quickly. If you have a lot of music on your iPod navigation can be downright aggravating. Example: if you want to listen to an artist that starts with an "M" then you will start at "A" and turn the joystick over-and-over-and-over again to finally reach the "M"s. Not sure why a better solution to this couldn't have been figured out. Sounds great, installs really easy.
Oh, but the remote on this thing is terrible. Just abysmal. Not made for driving as there are nearly 20 buttons that are all the exact same size, so you cannot feel any differences forcing you to look at the remote. Pointless.

The stereo has very good power and clarity. The lack of sound insulation and vibrating window cranks in my Ranger keep the unit from reaching it's potential. The options available to customize the display graphics are pretty cool. I chose the left and right channel power meters. The needles of the meters follow the audio, which I think's a nice touch. The only thing about the unit that I don't like is the somewhat cumbersome way that the radio presets are selected. Once I get used to it, it won't be so bad though.

i had high expectations for this receiver, it being pioneer and all, but i was very disappointed when i hooked it all up. i had a Panasonic CQ-C9700U in my old car but according to crutchfield, it wouldnt fit in my new car so i had to buy a new receiver. i chose this because of the price and "good" reviews.
the whole joystick idea was good, just pioneer didnt get it right. it was very difficult to get around especially when you are driving. although the mini joystick on the remote was cool.
i didnt like the 3.5mm aux input. i was hoping for (like my panasonic had) rca inputs.
i did like the display, very bright and easy to read. since its not LCD, it is not affected by cold weather. the background choices were rather bland.
if youre on a budget and looking to get a factory replacement, this should do. but if youre like me, and what a full upgrade and quality, spend another $100 or so and get something else.
