Woofers
Cast Aluminum Frame: The woofers feature a
cast aluminum frame. The frame is lightweight, yet rigid, to resist
flexing during long cone excursions to deliver powerful bass. The frame contains
an integral Vented Radial Aluminum Shorting Sleeve and Heat-sink
(patent-pending) to help keep the voice coil cool under all drive conditions.
The tinsel leads are woven directly into the spider for durability
Cone Construction: The woofers
use a hybrid glass fibre cone with pressed-in cross-ribs for increased
stiffness. This design helps break up major resonant modes for accurate bass
response and mid-range sound clarity. A solid machined Billet Aluminum Phase
plug prevents phase interactions of the sound waves for more focused sound.
Surrounds: The speakers use patent-pending NBR (Natural Butyl Rubber)
Multi-Roll surrounds. This design and material lets the woofer motor structure maintain
stable suspension integrity at any drive level without sacrificing cone surface
area.
Motor Structure: The SPX-17PRO
woofers use neodymium magnets to allow a shallow mounting depth and a narrower motor
structure, for easier installation.
Mounting Options: The woofers
fit standard 6-3/4 applications, and also include 5x7/6x8 adapter plates and
two round adapter rings for non-standard applications:
- 6-3/4" Spacer Ring: fits the opening of a standard 6-3/4" and
raises the speaker approximately 3/8"
- Depth: 2.126"
- Height: 0.795"
- Cutout Diameter: 5.281"
- Frame Diameter: 6.663"
- Flush Mount Ring: requires a round opening larger than a 6-3/4"
speaker, the metal grill also snaps into this mounting ring
- Depth: 2.789"
- Height: 0.302"
- Cutout Diameter: 6.637"
- Frame Diameter: 7.3"
Tweeters
Design: Rather than a vibrating diaphragm like conventional
dome tweeters, the large Ring Radiator tweeter moves linearly; this ensures low
distortion and smooth response with no harshness. Dual suspension pivot points
minimize distortion and maximize speed. An integrated Wave Guide provides
optimized frequency response and sound dispersion. The back of the tweeter has a
non-reflective cast aluminum tuned air chamber to increase SPL and dynamic
response.

Crossover Network
Tweeter Level: The crossover network has four tweeter level settings
for fine tuning; 0 dB, -1.5 dB, -3 dB, and -4.5 dB.
Phase-Link: Alpine's original phase-link technology gives the SPX-PRO
series crossovers the ability to adapt to many different speaker mounting
configurations (locations). It's designed to optimize the performance of the
speakers in real-world installations. Six different phase link modules can tune
the system for optimum frequency response, imaging, and staging no matter where
the speakers are mounted in the vehicle.
Bi-Amp Inputs: The
speakers can be powered by a single input to the crossover or
Bi-amplified. The crossover's default connection is a single input, using two
solid jumper bars to link the input signals. To bi-amp the speakers, you will need to remove the jumpers
and connect the woofer and tweeter input signals separately.
Inputs/Outputs: The crossover inputs and outputs are 0.187" wide male
quick-slide terminals. Wire is not included with the speakers.
Dimensions:
- Width: 6.372"
- Height: 1.271"
- Depth: 4.414" (plus wiring)
