Aluminum cone subwoofer with adjustable sound

You'll get great bass response from this enclosure's 8" x 5-1/4" woofer, which is fed 50 watts RMS by the durable built-in amplifier. An aluminum cone provides the added stiffness to combat distortion, while the urethane surround keeps the cone on track. The system's wired remote allows you to adjust your gain, low-pass filter, and phase settings, plus you can choose between two bass settings that let you adjust the speaker's dynamic range and sensitivity. This powered subwoofer gives you solid bass response and adjustability in an easy-to-stow package.

Product Research

Features

Overview: The Pioneer TS-WX130DA is an amplified subwoofer with a built-in Class D amplifier. It contains an 8" x 5-1/4" cone woofer, which is driven by a 50-watt RMS (160W Max) amp. The acoustic suspension (sealed) enclosure is compact enough to fit under the seat, behind the seat, or in small storage compartments. The TS-WX130DA comes with a wired Digital Bass control to let you control its volume and the frequency of the low-pass filter.

Woofer Cone: The Pioneer compact active subwoofer has an 8" x 5-1/4" aluminum cone woofer with an 18-ounce Strontium magnet and heat-resistant voice coil. The speaker has a urethane (foam) surround.

Enclosure: The TS-WX130DA features a specially designed acoustic suspension enclosure. It is made of a high density compound resin. The enclosure includes a 10" x 7" metal grille (non-removable).

Digital Bass Control: The active subwoofer comes with a wired Digital Bass Control with a 16.25' cable. From the control, you can set the Gain, and vary the Frequency Control (of the built-in low pass filter) from 50 Hz to 125 Hz. There are two selectable listening modes (Bass Modes) to choose from: Deep and Dynamic. In addition, you can switch the phase of the woofer from Normal to Reverse, if needed.

Bass Modes: There are two selectable Bass Modes to tune the unit to suit various types of music:

  • Deep: The Deep mode is for bass heavy music, and has a sound that is similar to a ported enclosure. It has a wider frequency response (20 Hz to 200 Hz), and a 95dB sensitivity.
  • Dynamic: The Dynamic mode has a tight, punchy bass, much like a sealed enclosure. The frequency range in narrower than the Deep setting (40 Hz to 160 Hz), with a 100dB sensitivity.

Connections: The TS-WX130DA comes with a power wiring harness as well as an RCA input harness. The power wiring harness has 16.25' lengths of 18-gauge power wire (with an in-line 10A ATO fuse) and 18-gauge turn-on lead, plus a 6' 18-gauge ground wire. The RCA input harness allows you to connect the subwoofer to an aftermarket stereo via RCA cables. If you're connecting to a factory radio (or a radio without RCA outputs), you can cut the RCA plugs off of the input harness and splice it to the speaker wires. An RJ-45 jack is provided for plugging in the Digital Bass Control cable.

Note: If you are using speaker-level inputs, the amplifier will automatically turn itself on when the head unit is turned on. When the head unit is turned off, the amplifier will turn itself off.

Controls: Two switches are located on the bottom of the unit inside the recessed connection panel. The Input Level switch should be set to "SPK" or "RCA" depending upon how the signal is input via speaker wire or RCA plugs. The Input Gain switch is set to "Normal" when using speaker level inputs or RCA inputs of less than 4V. If the RCA input signal is 4V or higher, the Input Gain switch should be set to "High."

Installation: The subwoofer comes with the hardware needed for installation. The enclosure installs using only two brackets (included) attached on opposite corners. Each bracket can be installed at 0°, 45°, or 90°. All of the power, remote, and signal connections are made in a recessed area on the bottom of the unit. The wires exit through a channel on the side of the unit. The included cable clamp holds the power, remote, and signal wires in place as they exit the channel.

Q
If connecting power directly to battery, what size ring terminal? Battery ring conectors are typically for LARGE awg wire. 18 awg is tiny.
wolfe  Mar 02, 2023
1 answer
A
That is a great question Wolfe, and it can be tricky as all of the ring terminal options we have listed are for wire that is far too large to crimp on the power lead on the Pioneer TS-WX130DA. If you cannot source a suitable size crimp I suggest changing the battery terminal to this T-spec V-BATT-TML in the link below. This gives you some clean options, and the smaller ports can be used for small wire as well! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_120VBATTML/T-SPEC-V-BATT-TML.html

Q
Is there an optimum position for something like this in a minivan? Rear seating is normally stowed, it's usually just the two of us, an electric scooter and two dogs.

A
I would hide it under a seat. The bass is pretty good so it's hard to know where it's coming from you just know it's there
anthony  Jun 26, 2022
A
In a minivan I would go with something bigger
robert  Jun 26, 2022

Mine is mounted vertically on the side of an overhead cabinet in my RV. This thing is pretty compact and could fit pretty much anywhere. In your application i would recommend looking under the driver and passenger seats and see if there is sufficient space. I would imagine this powered woofer could fit under most seats in an automobile.

Q
Can this be connected directly to the car battery?
wesley  Apr 29, 2021

A
You connect it to the battery, and ground to the chassis, with signal input coming from your radio!

Q
Can a Pioneer TS-compact sub work in a 2020 Hyundai Sante Fe, with its factory speakers?

A
Surely yes, but I returned it and exchanged it for a JL audio subwoofer and I don't regret it, jl gives me a very good experience, it's worth the cost. Enter an answer to this question.
antonio  Apr 30, 2021
A
Yes, it has speaker level inputs. And internal turn on capabilities.

Q
Can I run this sub off of a 14 gauge wire directly from my battery or do I need a bigger wire?

A
The sub comes with the wiring harness including power, acc and ground.

Q
does the remote need to be connected? Can I set the sub up and then disconnect it and use my head unit to control the level?
jeffrey  May 07, 2019
1 answer
A
Yes the remote needs to be connected and I never tried to fiddle with it through my head unit mainly because I have had to disconnect the battery several times to work on the truck and I haven't bothered to try it.
michael  May 08, 2019
Q
Will it wire up to GMC factory steareo?
rey  Dec 17, 2018
1 answer
A
I hooked the unit to my rear speakers and the battery. The unit turns on with sound. You do not have to go behind the radio.

Q
Is anything else required to connect this to the fuse box of a 2013 Civic?
mario  Oct 20, 2018
1 answer
A
The only other thing that is needed is something to make the actual connection to the power wire in the vehicle that goes into the fuse box. You can tap into that wire to make the connection or you can use a fuse holder meant to plug into the fuse to give you an extra hookup for the power wire for this powered subwoofer. You can find those here: https://www.crutchfield.com/g_716/Fuse-Holders.html?tp=2188#&nvpair=FFBrand|Metra My Bio: https://www.crutchfield.com/bio/Paul

Q
I purchased two of these. My intention was to have one under the driver's and one under the passenger's seat. I will be running them off of speaker-level inputs from my factory radio (2018 Jeep Renegade w/ Nav no beats). Can or should each sub tap off of their respective channel and run as mono? The harness that comes with the sub has stereo connections. The only other option would be to parallel them, I guess? Also, once the gain, frequency, phase and mode are set with the controller -- will the speaker retain those values once the controller is unplugged? The controller is awkwardly large, would rather not have them if not needed.

I know the question is an old one, but just in case someone else needs help. I ran two of these in my Jeep Wrangler. Used a splitter off the head unit, then ran the LR to each sub. I used a short pigtail off the head-unit, then a red splitter and a white splitter I got off eBay. Then ran the twin leads to each sub. Hope that helps.
stevem  Jul 20, 2021

I used this sub in an Audi A5 with the same intentions (under seat install). Due to the length of wire in the kit and the Audi have the battery installed in the trunk, it was much cleaner install. For my install I had to purchase a coaxial converter as the input requires rca jacks for in put. I grabbed a cheap on from local retailer and a couple coaxial splitters to make it work. When you disconnect the controller the sub goes to a default balanced setting. For me this sub fit the bill, minimal components and plenty of sound.
