Expansive sound from a Klipsch tower

Iconic Klipsch design

Over the years Klipsch has become famous for their Tractrix® horn-loaded tweeter. This design produces clear, accurate high frequencies. The R-26F utilizes this tweeter along with two 6-1/2" copper spun woofers to create natural, full-range sound with solid bass response. It's also very efficient, so you won't need a lot of power to drive it. Two sets of sturdy 5-way binding posts allow for bi-amping or bi-wiring.

Build a complete Reference system

Add more bass to a pair of R-26Fs with a matching subwoofer, or team them with other Klipsch Reference speakers for high-impact home theater.

Bookshelf speakers: Klipsch R-14M and Klipsch R-15M
Center channel: Klipsch R-25C

I used a pair of Klipsch Reference R-26F as two front speakers for my main TV room. And it totally changed my TV watching experience. Sound came out very clearly, I feel like I am sitting in a movie theater. I don't use sub woofer since it seems to give out enough. Crutchfield shipping has been great. very good product and good buying experience.

I had been looking at Klipsch Reference speakers for a while as a replacement for Cambridge Soundworks Ensemble that are almost 29 years old. The R-28F was a bit out of reach in terms of price, and then the Crutchfield sale on the R-26F (about half-price!) sealed the deal. These are a big improvement over the CSE - I love the clarity and detail I get even at lower volume (through a Adcom GFA-535 amp). Really great speakers at an incredible price. Very fast shipping, too.

Awesome speakers but you really can't go wrong with Klipsch. I had been thinking about updating my system and at the sale price I had to pull the trigger. Speakers sound better than most that are twice the price. I m very, very pleased. KP

Pros: Clear, crisp highs and price

Cons: Can't really think of any.

Klipsch Reference R-26F speakers

I ordered these on sale several days after receiving my new Marantz CD6006 single-disc player. They sound deliciously rich and clear, are built well and are very stable. My only issue is that my wife will be asking me to turn down the volume; they need relatively high volume to be fully appreciated.

Pros: Sound, especially at higher volume; clear, rich sound at all frequencies.

Cons: Aside from the size of the boxes to store, none thus far.

Mid range bass is lacking!

Kevin from Burlington, KY on 6/15/2018

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Decent speaker if you don't care about mid range bass at all. Speakers can get very loud while remaining clear and undistorted. Bought these along with the Klipsch 25c center and 10sw sub. Watching movies everything was loud and crisp and the sub would shake the house but the mid range is almost non existent. Car crashes would sound unrealistic and unimpressive because of the lack of mids. No matter what I did in the setting adjusting the crossover and level of each speaker I could not get these speakers to sound right. Very disappointing for a speaker at this price point. Currently returning these speakers along with the Klipsch 25c center speaker and trading for the JBL Arena 180 speakers. So far Crutchfield has been great about the exchange, making it very easy and understanding.

Pros: Loud clean crisp and clear sound.

Cons: Mediocre mid range for speaker this expensive.

Was slightly strapped after the holidays etc so the Klipsch R28F's were slightly beyond my budget so I opted for the 26's instead. After talking to a Crutchfield tech, he eased my mind and explained that the subwoofer would make amends by adding that wanted boom! Anywhere else would have tried to sell me for the higher cost whatever. Our conversation put me in to thinking that I could even dial up my "gain" etc to achieve what I thought I may be giving up. I've bought quite a bit of home entertainment equipment since Christmas from Crutchfield and NOT once was i given misleading information, the staff are well educated in all products. Now that everything's calibrated (they even helped me with that) and set up, I couldn't be happier, unless I had a huge theater in my house with the best Klipsch products made filling that room. But since my realistic normal size house doesn't allow for that, I'm really happy with my system. I'm truly a diehard Crutchfield devotee now, I honestly am! If your on a budget and you want a really nice entertain setup try this set up, 2 Klipsch R26F left/right front speakers, a Klipsch R25c as your center, a Klipsch R12sw subwoofer, a pair of R14s as your rear surrounds. I count the minutes til I get off from work so I can immerse in my UHD 4K television picture complimented by the above mentioned audio equipment. My wife however still lives in a pre Ben Franklin techno state and doesn't share my love. If I win I want Atmos speakers!!!!@

Pros: This equipment has brought happiness that I forgot about

Cons: I can't get enough discs full of amazing audio to satisfy my new addiction....more more, I need more

I tried to replace my old ADS towers with these smaller, lighter speakers as I am getting older and the 85 lb ADS's were a pain to move and might have gotten a bit crusty with age (like this author), but ultimately I returned them after 100 hours of "break-in" failed to damp down the brightness on top and the muddy midrange. There is not much base, either but you could add a sub to solve this. I went back to my old ADS 1090's for clarity and base. I must say that these speakers live up to the makers' claim: they are loud!!

Pros: Attractive and easy to move speaker tower that can play really loud without much power. Can also be bi-amped.

Cons: Somewhat bright upper end (might be due to only 100 hours use), but muddy midrange and not much base. Needs a sub.

This is a great speaker! The sound is fantastic, and it gets LOUD (I usually find myself listening in the -40 to -30 dB range on my receiver). I had been using a set of Klipsch Promedia speakers on my TV, and while I thought it sounded very good, I'm amazed at how much better these sound! The highs are crisper, the mids are cleaner, and overall these sound fuller. I never would have thought that my Promedia set sounded small, but now that I have these to compare to, they absolutely do! I paired these with a Klipsch R-10SW subwoofer and set of Klipsch R-15M bookshelf speakers for surrounds, while running them off a Yamaha RX-V381.

I gave these Klipsch R-26F speakers 5 stars even tho i returned them. Quality of materials was excellent. Fit and finish was excellent (even tho these are made in China). The bass side of the output was very impressive. I returned them because of the horn tweeters. They sounded too bright, too nasally, kind of uncomfortable. Highly directional, which I thought was a good thing, since I sat in a strategically placed chair while listening. I just could not find a way to like the sound. Others may like the Klipsch sound immediately after setting them up, but I don't buy into the idea that I have to get used to new speakers. I have some excellent Axiom speakers which I found very warm and natural and pleasant to listen to right out of the box. These Klipsch are excellent speakers if you like that signature sound they have, which is why I gave 5 stars. I guess one either likes the Klipsch sound or doesn't.

Excellent mid range and highs. I was originally hesitant to purchase as these dont have titanium coil in the tweeters and the woofers are graphite overlayed instead of cerametallic. I opted for the r26f after seeing the klipsch with these features around the same pricepoint had 5 1/4 inch woofers instead of 6 1/2 inch. In my opinion a subwoofer is not needed with this set up. You will want to dial in reciever settings for the best bass, but these speakers are extremley well rounded. After much research i discovered some audiophiles prefer aluminum to titanium tweeters.

Pros: Price, if on sale Excellent highs hear every detail Mids are perfect

Cons: Bass is sufficient and deep but i do wonder what the next series up sounds like with cerametallic woofers

Features

1" Horn-Loaded Tweeter: The R-26F floorstanding speaker features Klipsch's proprietary Tractrix Horn technology mated with a 1" aluminum LTS tweeter, for impressive high-end response and greater extension, enhanced imaging and powerful dynamics.

  • Tractrix Horn Technology: The square Tractrix Horn delivers a 90° (w) x 90° (h) dispersion pattern for a broader sound-stage.
  • LTS (Linear Travel Suspension): Behind each horn lies a 1.0-inch aluminum tweeter with a linear travel suspension to minimizes distortion for enhanced, detailed performance.

Dual 6.5" Copper-Spun IMG Woofers: The Klipsch R-26F floorstanding speaker is outfitted with two 6.5" Copper-Spun IMG woofers. The Copper-Spun IMG (Injection Molded Graphite) woofer is exceptionally light while being extremely rigid - providing remarkable low frequency response, with minimal cone breakup and distortion.

Front-Firing Port: The Klipsch Reference series floorstanding speaker features a front-firing port that is perfectly matched to the cabinet and drivers. The front placement of the port creates ideal airflow with minimal distortion.

MDF Cabinet: The Klipsch R-26F floorstanding speaker features a MDF cabinet with a brushed polymer veneer black finish that seamlessly integrates into almost any room or decor. MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) is utilized because of its damping characteristics for natural, uncolored sound without unwanted vibration and distortion.

Acoustically Transparent Grille: The Klipsch R-26F floorstanding loudspeaker comes with a removable, black cloth grille that is acoustically transparent.

Dual 5-Way Binding Posts: The Klipsch Reference series floorstanding speaker is fitted with two sets of 5-way binding posts connected by jumpers. Using the dual binding posts, you can bi-amp or bi-wire the speakers. The binding post terminals will accept banana plugs (single or dual), pin-connectors, spade-lugs, and bare wire (up to 10AWG).

Integrated Rubber Feet: The Klipsch R-26F floorstanding speaker features four integrated rubber feet for placing the speaker securely and safely on your hardwood, laminate, or tile floor (these rubber feet should never be removed). The floorstanding speaker does not come with any carpet spikes.

Placement: For optimum performance, Klipsch suggests placing the floorstanding speakers 6' to 15' apart. They may also be toed-in slightly for better stereo imaging. The listening position should be about 1 to 1.5x the distance separating the speakers.

Reference Series: The Klipsch Reference series consists of three floorstanding speakers (R-24F/R-26F/R-28F), two bookshelf speakers (R-14M/R-15M), one center channel speaker (R-25C), and one surround speaker (R-14S). The Klipsch Reference series line-up of loudspeakers sound great in stereo and home theater applications.

Optional Powered Sub: For bigger & deeper bass response, pair the R-26F floorstanding speaker with one of Klipsch's powered subwoofers (sold separately - see Accessories Tab).

After doing my own research, getting opinions from Crutchfield advisors, and having a close friend recomending this speaker to me not knowing I had looked at it already. After weighing in everything for what I wanted the speakers for, the Klipsch was my choice. [ Kenneth  Jul 17, 2018 ]

The most amazing home theater system I have ever seen and heard used all Klipsch speakers. Obviously they were top of the line and better than these I just purchased, but it's the same engineering. I have a THX 2.1 Klipsch speaker system on my home computer that is absolutely amazing also. I have been wanting to upgrade my home theater system speakers and Klipsch is what I wanted. At this price it is a no brainer. I will be ordering the center channel and surrounds shortly. [ Mark  Jul 13, 2017 ]

How well it performs when connected to Yamaha RX-V581 AVR? Can the AVR drive these speakers
[ Sriram  May 17, 2018 ]
2 answers
A
Anything pushing 50 watts or more can drive these speakers. You're not going to max out on volume unless you're at a concert hall. But check out the Rf-28's for the same price since you're shopping around.

I have been using the AVR and R-26F for over a year now. Bluray movies, streaming music, Bluetooth... all sources and formats are utilized by my family. Sound has always been full, clear, and very clean no matter the listening volume. Very happy with both products.

Q
I have a pioneer receiver that 6-8 ohms compatible, is there any way to see that these speakers run at 6 ohms instead if at so as to give it 140 rms instead of 90 rms?
[ joseph  Jul 29, 2017 ]
2 answers
A
No way of lowering it to 6 ohms, they are 8 ohms all day, all night
[ Miguel  Aug 02, 2017 ]
A
No. They are 8-Ohm nominal. That means they are safe for receivers rated at 8 ohms. Speakers Ohm's change depending on frequency. You may get an actual 5-1/2 to 80ohms. These sound great with 100 watts. They are very sensitive 98Db

Q
If this klipsch reference R-26F is 100 watts rms (400watts peak ) then does it mean that i can only pair this speaker with an audio/ video reciever range from a minimum of 20 watts to a maximum of 100 watts only? If above 100 watts then the speaker and amp will be damage?
[ Jane  Jan 29, 2017 ]
3 answers
A
No damage - these speakers can really "SPEAK VOLUMES" - you'll be fine - you can really crank them up - wonderful sound!
[ Patricia  Jan 30, 2017 ]
A
All I can tell you is that my R-26F is pair up Audio/video receiver, Turn table, and compact cassette deck it works well and give great sound. Hope that information help you.
[ GENEVIEVE A  Jan 30, 2017 ]
A
No. That's not what that means. RMS is a preferred max setting. You can push the speakers with a 120 watt/ch amp, heck...even one that's 150 watts/ch. You just won't be able to turn it up to max volume is all. I have 2 of these pushed by 120 w Onkyo receiver, volume never gets over 42 on a movie or 35 on music. . Thats loud enough for me, I assume the volume knob goes to 80 or even 100. You would never run speakers at max volume anyway, so you'll be fine.
