Q
I am running the Jl audio vxi1000x5 which would be 75w rms to each speaker. Jl audio c2 would this be ok being that it's only 18 gauge?

You are totally fine here, Chris. This is a HOT topic as of late, here at Crutchfield and on the forums. We actually did some testing in our Technical Support department and we found that at 100 watts RMS this 9wire only lost about 1-2 percent of the signal power, and we are fine with those numbers! You are good to go here on any full range amp 100 watts or less, and the ease of not having to rewire your whole vehicle is a major win for me. No worries here Chris.

Q
I want to wire my speakers to an amp but using the factory head unit. Is there any other way to splice the speaker wire to this 9 wire bundle without cutting factory wiring?

A
Good question. There are some vehicles where we carry an adapter where you can easily add an amp without having to splice into your system. Please give us a call at 800.324.9695 to speak with one of our advisors to see if we have one that will work for your system.

I don't really need 20 feet length. Can I cut it to the length I need or do you sell a shorter version?

Just cut it to the length you need, it's still a bargain.

You'll have to cut it. just remember to measure twice.

Cut to length!
timothy  Jun 25, 2021

Yes you can cut it to the sise you need it and it still works fine
giovanni  Jun 25, 2021

You can cut it to what ever length you need
kelvin  Jun 25, 2021
A
You can cut it, just strip back the outer black sheath to expose the inner wires.
steve clifton  Jun 25, 2021

I cut mine to the length I needed for the install and saved the rest for the next project.

Q
I am replacing all 4 of my factory 6.5 speakers with 4 Kicker 6.5 CS series. I am debating from running them off of my JVC head unit or adding an amp. So, if I ran this 9 wire from the amp and tied into the factory speaker wires at the head unit. I will still need to run the RCA cables from the head unit to the amp correct? Or am I missing something. Thanks in advance.

Yes you will still need to run the rcas to the amp from the head unit I used these speaker wires to tie into my factory harness as well and made the install easier and cleaner
jonathan  Dec 10, 2020

Hi Bradley, I ran 2 of these 9 wires from the factory head unit without RCA's. It sounds like you have an aftermarket head unit so you would only need to run one 9 wire tied to the factory speakers at the head unit to the amp and then the RCA's from head unit to amp I believe. RCA's would be input and the 9 wire would be output.
shawn  Dec 10, 2020
A
Yes, if you are using a separate 4 ch amp, you need to get a signal to the amp. If your head unit has RCT output and your amp RCT inputs, then yes you run RCA cables from head to amp. Alternatively, you can also use the same type of 9wire to tap from JVC speaker output to speaker input into amp(if speaker level input available) then 9wire back to head unit area to factory harness speakers (you would need two runs of 9wire in this case, one from head to amp and another from amp back to head area to factory speaker harness)..
mark  Dec 10, 2020
A
Correct... You need the RCA's to send the signal to the amp. Then the 9 wire will bring the amplified signal back up to behind the HU. Tape up the speaker leads coming out of the HU and hook the 9 wire up to your speaker wire harness. The 9 wire is 5 color. Blue for your remote line and white, grey, green, and purple for the speakers. Good luck!!
randall  Dec 10, 2020
A
That is correct you should run them from the amp to your factory speaker cables. you need an input to the amp (RCA) and an output to the speakers (this cable). While some amps support hi level inputs from speakers and this can be used in that situation, RCA is better.

if you use posi waterproof silicone connectors you'll be fine
rowdy  Dec 05, 2020

I do not no much about boats,, what i do know is that this Oxygen Free Copper wiring provides a superior electrical conductor to aluminum because it does not expand or contract with heat and can carry a higher current load. My suggestion is that you would go with a tinned Oxygen free copper wire for preventing corrosion.
santiago  Dec 04, 2020
A
I would not recommend it. Tinned copper wire is the best choice for your application.

If the cable connections are exposed to sea spray use 3M Splicing tape then coat the tape with 3-M SCOTCHKOTEFD Scotchkote Electrical Coating. This is we used in the Navy and never had connections to corrode by salt water. Hope this helps. Replace every 6 months for best results.

I wouldn't use this in a marine situation because it wasn't accurately rated to used in that application. Crutchfield usually specifically identifies those products marine rated!
