Product Research

Weatherproof Design: Polk Audio All-Weather Certified, Atrium Series speakers exceed baseline industrial and military specifications for environmental endurance (ASTM D5894-UV Salt Fog, Mil Standard 810 Immersion, Mil-Std 883 Method 1009.8 for salt and corrosion.) Certification means Atrium speakers can effortlessly withstand the outdoors, and hold up in extreme temperatures and precipitation.

Polk Patented Technologies: Patented Dynamic Balance and Klippel Optimization technologies ensure the perfect material performance, eliminating driver and tweeter "artifacts" for more realistic sound reproduction at high and low volume levels.

  • Dynamic Balance: A Polk perfected method of analyzing a speaker's microscopic behavior with laser Interferometry. Polk engineers can tune out unwanted resonance and distortion with the right combination of materials, geometry and construction techniques. This brings you pure, distortion-free sound.
  • Klippel Optimization: By using a state-of-the-art Klippel Distortion Analyzer, Polk engineers were able to optimize the woofer's motor structure, voice coil alignment and suspension bringing you the best possible performance even at extreme listening levels.

2-Way Driver Design: Each speaker features a 3/4" anodized aluminum dome tweeter with rubber surround and neodymium magnet for better power handling and smoother response. Each speaker also features a 5" long-throw mineral-filled polypropylene cone driver for clean midrange and deep, accurate bass. For a smoother response and improved durability, each woofer uses a butyl rubber surround.

Rugged Enclosure Design: The durable, mineral-filled polypropylene cabinet design, with molded-in bracing and survives years of seasonal changes, for great sound, no matter what the weather. The rugged, mineral-filled polypropylene enclosure features a rustproof aluminum grille, rustproof aluminum bracket, and stainless steel/brass hardware.

Note: The speakers are available in a black or white finish. The enclosure is also paintable.

Broad Coverage Baffle Design: The sculpted front, steeply-angled baffle design and rounded enclosure minimize diffraction (sound reflecting off of hard edges) for more open and lifelike imaging.

Binding Posts: The Atrium 5 has a pair of gold-plated binding posts that will accept bare wire, pin connectors, spade connectors, single- and dual banana plugs.

Speed-Locking Mounting System: The included rustproof aluminum brackets allow multiple mounting options and are quick-and-easy to install. The Atrium 5 can be mounted either horizontally or vertically and aimed to deliver the best possible sound in a variety of situations The integrated brackets provide full 180-degree rotation (when mounted vertically or horizontally. The mounting brackets even allow the speaker to be mounted snugly in a corner or under an eve (at a downward 45-degree angle). You can remove the bracket and use the speaker's built-in stability feet, if you simply want to place the speaker on a table or shelf.

Customer Q&A

I have two Atrium 5s. And I may want to add two more Atrium 5 speakers in the future. I need an amp that can receive bluetooth to power the two I have now but allow me to add two more later. First, what do I need to take into account? I don't understand everything about amps and ohms and channels, etc. Second, does anyone have any suggestions for what amp in particular I should look at?

Thank you for your quick response. Does each Atrium 5 use 1 ohm? So 4 powers all? Is that how it works? Like I said, I don't understand all the electrical aspects to consider here. Would having only two speakers connected to a system that can power 4 be an issue? Also, the amp itself will be inside, wires going through the wall out to the speakers. It will be either hooked up directly to a Echo Dot or via Bluetooth to my phone. Also, $700 and $400 for the amp are out of my price range for this project.

I would be happy to help, Jor. If you would consider using Wi-fi for better sound quality and more reliable performance, you can use the Sonos Amp in the first link below. This is powerful enough and stable to 4-ohms, so it can drive all four Atrium 5s with ease! Wi-fi is always a good call for outdoor zones as well as the amp is installed indoors and can sometimes have difficulty connecting with Bluetooth. The OSD Nero Stream XD2 in the second link below will provide similar power into 4-ohms, but also has the Bluetooth connection capability if you prefer to use Bluetooth to connect for your tunes.

Can you hook them up to your phone?

These are passive speakers that can work with receivers/amps and some of those receivers/amps will be able to get audio from a phone. I recommend contacting an advisor by calling 1-800-324-9695 to get a personal recommendation on system with that ability and can run these speakers

I see they are 100 watts. I have a 200 watt reciever. Will I blow these speakers?

I agree with Steven that the best thing to do is check the RMS watts per channel. I would think a receiver listed as a 200 watt model would not output more than 100 watts RMS per channel and if it turns out that your's outputs this 100 watts RMS per channel, it will work just fine! My Bio:
jason  Dec 17, 2018 (Staff)
check your receiver to see how many watts per channel, most likely if the reciever is listed as 200 watts, it would be 100 watts per channel ( left and right) each speaker is rated at 100 watts so they would be ok. Also 200 watts is at max volume which you Hardly ever use. I think you will be ok with these speakers
steven  Dec 14, 2018
No. Should be fine!

I want to add these to my Denon avr1613 receiver. I have it set up now with a 5.1 system inside the house. How do I add the outdoor speakers and control them separately from the indoor speakers?

I am sorry but I have not tried to do what you are considering. only used them as the rear speakers on a 5.1 system.
jacob a  Feb 17, 2014
ron, in two words, you can't. the receiver you're using doesn't have a "zone b" function. sorry i can't help more.

the manual suggests painting the white speakers is this true for the black?
charles  May 18, 2020

The exterior housing turns yellowish after a year or so and paint would be good. It is not necessary to paint the inside black part as it cannot be seen with grille installed

Sorry couple of questions. do these speakers need to be hooked up to a receiver to work? Also can I pair two or more to them in the future? Are these compatible with IOS?
paul2  Apr 30, 2019

Yes they do
jeffrey  May 02, 2019
Yes you need a receiver to power the speakers. The receiver, Yamaha, that I have is capable of pairing with any device. It is capable of having two sets of speakers.
bryan  May 02, 2019
These speakers would need to be connected to a Receiver or Amplifier to work. You could run a second set of them in parallel as long as the amplifier/receiver you were using to power them is 4-ohm stable, and produces enough power to properly run them.
