Nice little speakers
Rob from Martinez, CA on 6/17/2025
I bought the Polk ES15's for a stereo setup in my family room. They will be used with a new Denon integrated amp for occasional music and the TV. My first impressions; there is good bass, forward mids, and the treble is a bit warm for my liking. They have a full warm sound. I am not running a sub with these and don't expect earth shattering bass from them. I hate to use the term, for the price, but they do what I expect for the price. They are heavy and appear to be well made considering where they are made. For reference, in my other systems I use ADS L1290, RSL Elan, and JBL L100. The Polks obviously don't compare to any of these. To wrap it up, these are decent little speakers that I am happy with for the price point. Just did want to spend $1000 plus for this application.
Pros: Price, I don't require a sub, well made, full warm sounding.
Cons: Hard to come up with cons for the price, but music sounds trapped in a small box. May be the nature of a small two way speaker.

Perfect Speakers for the Application!
Alan from Mechanicsburg, PA on 5/2/2025
We (my siblings and I) bought these ES15 speakers for my father as an early Father's Day gift. He has a nice Denon receiver and Denon CD player that had been paired with a set of Boston Acoustics HD7 bookshelf speakers (the entire set-up was purchased in the early 90s). He loved the Boston's but, after 35 years, the woofers were separating from the surrounds, and we thought it was time for an upgrade. After much research, I narrowed the field to a shortlist of choices. Some considerations: his stereo system is in a "small" room; he had height restrictions based on where he places the speakers; and does not use a subwoofer. I didn't want anything too bright but not neutral...something a bit warm. I kept coming back to these Polk ES15s... based on specs and the positive reviews from others. I also read that Sound United (owner of Polk Audio) had acquired both Denon and Boston Acoustics in a deal back in 2017; it just seems these should all work well together! Well, my dad was presented with his gift last weekend and was absolutely thrilled. After setting up his new speakers and playing some of his favorite CDs, he is, once again, immersed in quality sound. The mids and highs are excellent...and the bass is much more than what we expected from the smaller woofer (his Boston's had a 7-inch woofer). Overall, we feel these speakers surpass the sound quality of the Boston HD7s. Excellent sound from a bookshelf speaker of this size.
Pros: Excellent speaker for the right application. Great as Mains in a small room. Nice warm sound enables listening for extended time; not too harsh. Great bass considering their size.
Cons: If used in a proper application, can't really say there are cons. For a mid to large room, I would want something bigger and would probably want a sub as well.

Great rear surrounds. Replaced T15s. Those we're good but I didn't know what I was missing. The bass is outstanding on the ES15s. Explosions surprise me and make me jump. Using these with ES10s as height speakers. Love this setup.
Pros: Walnut finish is great looking. Perfect size. Wall mounting these were simple. Not too heavy.

Pounding bass amazing sound
Josh Painter from Radford VA on 12/3/2024
Amazing I had a Klipsch 5.2 setup and wanted something different something that wasn't so direct anybody knows anything about Klipsch speakers is they sound magnificent but they are extremely bright in your face speakers I tried paradigm flourished any speakers and center channel speaker and it was pretty good. Didn't have much bass. You definitely got to have a subwoofer and even with a subwoofer I still like my speakers to have bass. I don't like them sounding thin so I bought the Polk Audio signature elite floor standing speakers and they sounded amazing. I was blown away by how good they sounded then I bought the center channel to go with it. And of course I bought these bookshelf speakers. The only thing that I haven't got is the signature elite subwoofer and that's because I'm having a hard time letting go of my 12-in Klipsch reference subwoofer but the Polk Audio bookshelf speakers are absolutely amazing. I listen to them stereo mode just to see what they had and surround sound and they sounded amazing in both. I highly recommend them
Pros: Amazing! Sound for stereo mode or surround sound. They sound absolutely phenomenal. Highly recommend the entire signature elite series
Cons: Absolutely no cons

Great sounding speaker at this price point.
Eric from COLORADO SPRINGS, CO on 10/22/2024
These are great speakers for the price period. If you have a smaller room with a little space to get them away from wall these are perfect. They will surprise you with their strong bass response. I still think they sound better with a good sub. I used my Elac 12". Pushing these to the mid 70db range isn't an issue and starts to get a little muddy at higher 80db range. The power port gives you a little flexibility as far as space. These are nice looking speakers and the vinyl seam isn't too noticeable. They are built very well for there price point. The sound of the Terylene tweeter is bright and spunky and the mica reinforced polypropylene is nice sounding. Could use a little boost in low-mid range but take well to a little eq and not an issue. If your looking for something easy on the wallet but still want a semi dynamic bookshelf speakers this is a great pick. I beleive the Polk ES15 competes with the likes of the many higher priced speakers.
Pros: Great looking. Well built. Works great with smaller room. Works great as a surround or rear home theater speaker. Magnetic grill. Easily pushed by smaller amps.
Cons: Little bass heavy (Can be managed with an eq or room placement). May not have a big enough sound far heavier listening. Probably not the speakers for larger rooms.

Solid cabinet construction for this price point. However, the seam on the vinyl wrap is quite visible on the underside of the speaker. It is a budget friendly speaker.Very full sound. A little heavy on the bass. Could be due to placement. I have space limitations. I am exchanging them for the Klipsch RP500Mii's that just went on sale. I already own the RP600Mii's that are in my basement. For me, Klipsch is but more dynamic than these Polk's. Overall, it is a good speaker.

Excellent speaker for size and price
Philip J from TROY, MI on 6/26/2024
Bought the ES15's to connect to the Denon CEOL RCDN-12. I like the Polk sound but wanted something less forward than the RTI4's so I ended up ordering these. As expected the treble on these is less forward than the RTI4's but still clear enough. I find that I could listen to the ES15's for hours at moderate volumes. The mid range is solid and the bass is good for these size speakers. I have a Klipsch r-100sw also attached with the crossover, set at 80hz with minimal gain selected, to complete the system. I originally ordered the ES20's but quickly realized that the ES20's were too large for the placement area. In a panic, I called Crutchfield and they were able to change my order from the ES20's to the ES15's. Thanks, Crutchfield.
Pros: Less forward, but still clear treble Pleasant Midrange Excellent Bass for woofer size I can listen to these for hours at moderate volume

Excellent bookshelf speakers
Charles from Mount Pleasant, SC on 6/15/2024
I've been listening to these for about a week and have concluded I made the right choice. Speakers are well made and sound marvelous. Clear highs and adequate bass for my taste. I think these compare quite favorably to the 40 years old Mission 770 speakers I recently sold due to a downsize move. Only complaint I have is the plastic caps covering the banana plug ports. They are a pain to remove and one actually broke off leaving a plug of plastic lodged in the hole. After a brief moment of panic, I realized I could unscrew the connector and push the broken plastic out the bottom. All was well.
Pros: Clear highs Adequate base Well made
Cons: Banana plug caps hard to remove.

High-value with minor drawbacks
Paul from Houston, TX on 5/22/2024
I bought these for surround channel duties and have no complaints in this use case, particularly at this modest price. My Yamaha receiver optimize function tames their treble, and surrounds aren't usually asked to be loud even when front speakers are fed high volume. But to stress test them for this review I set them up as Front L and R, and fed them sound using "Pure Direct" stereo, so no optimization. At moderate volumes they're fine, perfectly enjoyable with more bass presence than their 5.25" woofer size would suggest, so impressive performance . But to get bass impact and truly low rumble, unsurprisingly you'd need a sub, as all speakers this size would. Now at high volumes, they don't fare as well, >80 db. The sound seems more condensed and brittle, treble more shrill than seems accurate. Hence my 4 stars instead of 5. Personally I'm very pleased to get 4 star performance in a living room-aesthetic cabinet at this price. A high value choice unless you mostly turn to your front speakers for head-banging volumes.
Pros: Beautiful finish for the price Pleasing bass presence for the 5.25" woofers Well balanced tones at moderate volumes (55 - 75 db) making them excellent surround channel speakers.
Cons: Requires subwoofer for bass impact if these are to be your front speakers. Sound feels compressed at high volumes > 80 db Treble can seem shrill at high volumes

These speakers are superb. The bass is deep enough for my needs, and the mids and highs are clean and clear. I am powering these with a Yamaha R-S202 stereo receiver, and CDs, vinyl, and streaming music all sound incredible through these bookshelf speakers. I have these in a small bedroom, but I tested them out in my living room (a medium-sized room) and they are more than sufficient for an average living room.
Pros: Great sound.
Cons: None.

Michael from Morongo Valley, CA on 4/18/2024
The very definition of crisp, succinct audio. In sum, my aim was to find bookshelf speakers that would synch up and complement a pair of 19-in KLH. (Also purchased at Crutchfield.) After considering a more pricey set, on clearance at Audio Adviser, I reversed course. The difference maker, as always, was the quality of care. Crutchfield's support staff are not only well-versed, they're patient; seemingly authentic. Each interaction with a Crutchfield tech has been marked by grace.
Pros: Surprisingly sturdy. Noticeable heft. Clean, minimalist vibe.
Cons: Made in China

In the last 6 months I`ve redone ALL the audio in my house. I had a pair of Polk Monitor 60`s which were 15 or so years old and far from ready for the graveyard. I gifted them as an upgrade to a family member. For my main LR 2 Ch system Polk ES 60, in the Den 5.1 HTS ES55 fronts, ES30 center, Def Tech 800 rears, for my new music room play along system ES15.and lastly Atrium 6`s in the garage and backyard. Ok onto the 15`s. I connected them to an OSD Pre 1 preamp and OSD XMP 300 amp very happy with the results. I bought the Pangea 3 pole stands. If you are considering the stands, "Do" buy the optional 6x9 plates. I didn`t like it either but I`m glad I did it. I find Klipsch`s are too bright for my liking and have owned Polks nearly exclusively, for nearly 20 years.
Pros: Sound, build quality, Value.

Pretty OK for low/medium volume listening
Speakerman from Right behind you... on 7/30/2023
These Polk ES15s are somewhere between 4 and 5 stars. We need to be clear that these are budget speakers. Try to get them on sale or scratch and dent if you can. With that caveat, midrange is consistently good and pleasing at all volume levels, especially for vocals. At high power levels, 20-60W+, the high frequency response reduces, and the the low end becomes boomy. At low to moderate volume levels, where you could listen all day/week/month is where these excel. In that range the sound is much more balanced and holds up well across a wide variety of music genres. A sub could improve the lows, but I wouldn't bother at this system design price point, I'd just go with the bookshelves alone and be happy with low/mid volume listening and not push them very hard. These are part of a secondary system for me, for simple 2.0 music streamed over LDAP and AptX HD.

So far, so good. Have the ES15's hooked up to a Yamaha A-S501 - phono, tv via optical, cd player. A definite upgrade from my vintage setup. I haven't turned the system up too loud, yet. Letting everything break in a little before really putting through the paces. Highs and mids are great. Low end is good for the speaker size, but leaves you wanting a little more. Already thinking about adding a sub- in the future.

Surprisingly large sound for smallish speakers. I replaced my older Polk T15 speakers that I've had for about 5 years. I'm listening to more music in my living area while reading and these offer a much fuller less aggressive sound. I have some Polk tower speakers in my listening room, but they are mainly for me attentively listening to music. These are great just to provide some music while I read or do some house work. (yeah, I'm retired if you couldn't tell) I can highly recommend these speakers for just about any situation, even critical listening, although the bass is not going to be as deep as with a larger speaker. Try them, you just might find them to be what you need and at an attractive price too!

Pros: Great styling. Quality of sound.
Cons: None

Excellent
Cary from Dahlgren, VA on 7/18/2022
These are outstanding speakers for the money. The first thing that impressed me is the thick cabinet. It's very solid. Most speakers around this price have thin cabinets that can possibly vibrate. This cabinet is so thick I doubt it would ever vibrate. It also has internal bracing. The lows and high frequencies are excellent. The bass can go down to 44HZ which is very low. I went ahead and purchased the Polk Reserve R100 speaker after these because the midrange of the Polk Reserve is better.
Pros: Excellent purchase for the price
Cons: The midrange is not as good as the Polk Reserve series.

Does not live up to the brand or reviews
Serguei from SOUTHLAKE, TX on 6/5/2022
I am replacing the old JVC bookshelf system that has a great sound but is too small for the room it is now in. I still want an entry level bookshelf system as it is going to be used by children mostly. Upon reading reviews and considering the price point, I picked Polk Audio Signature Elite ES15 speakers (with Sony receiver). I regretted my choice immediately upon turning the speakers on. The sound is not clear. It seems that speakers produce the noise instead of a sound across all tones. To make sure, I went to another old system that I have (Pioneer receiver with Athena speakers) and ran the same track. It came out clear and nice on Athena. It may be that my mistake was expecting too much from $299 speakers. But none the less, I cannot recommend these speakers.
Pros: Affordabilty.
Cons: Poor sound clarity and quality of midtones in particular.

Polk Audio Signature Elite ES15

Excellent speakers for front/left channels in a surround sound configuration, which is how I'm using them. They also sound great in stereo mode for listening to vinyl. Really produce oversized sound for their size - and they look great.

Using these as side surround. Pairing these with the s60 works great. Think they are great bang for the buck.
Pros: Good sound for the size. Smaller than the s20

Great at the price point
Gary from Woodinville, WA on 3/30/2022
The Polk ES15 is a nice little speaker. If I compare them to the 20-year-old B&W 801's in our music room, they fall very, very short but that is totally unfair comparison. We use them for watching TV & movies (matched with a Polk ES30 center) and every once in a while, for listening to Sirius XM, Pandora or FM radio. For $250, they are more than expected. A nice midrange presentation, solid but no real depth low end (need a sub) and they lack a bit of shimmer in the top end, but again, for $250 you can't go wrong.
Pros: No listener fatigue. Great in smaller rooms and they hit well above their price.
Cons: If you are looking for audiophile sound, look elsewhere.

The downside...
Arthur from Phoenixville, PA on 3/26/2022
I have purchased some great stuff from Crutchfield. The treble on these speakers is simply migraine inducing. Shrill and fatiguing no matter where I placed them. Returning heavy items is burdensome and I almost never do it but with these I had to. Straight up guys and girls - do some homework first there are better options at the same and even lower price points. Look for speakers that are described as 'neutral'. You will be much happier.
Pros: Nice looking, decent bass response.
Cons: treble and midrange, if important to you, is unlistenable.

Polk ES15 small but big
William Kent from Chester, NH on 3/26/2022
These ES15 speakers are small in size and cost. But big in sound. like all Polk speakers. I have used them as primaries and they were great. They are now integrated with a larger system as Surround Sound in back of a 5.1 System and they blend in just right.
Pros: Big sound small cost. The Keyhole in back make it easy to hang/mount.

Polk Audio ES15 Speakers
Crutchfield customer from Baton Rouge, LA on 2/25/2022
I bought these ES15 speakers after 20 years with a pair of Kef F15s. The mid-range and high frequencies are remarkably clearer and brighter. I really like the size...not too bulky.
Pros: Size, clarity.
Cons: Needs a sub for full sound.

Excellent for fun, loud music (like at your home gym), not a hi-fi speaker. The mix of treble/mids/bass is somewhat forced to pump bass from such a small cabinet. Would recommend for "fun and loud" listening.

They sound very good, and for the price they sound amazing
Crutchfield customer from Palm Bay, FL on 12/15/2021
They sound very good, and for the price they sound amazing. You do want some power to drive these, fairly efficient but its not Klipsch for efficiency. It is better than Klipsch for warm full yet still detailed sound, in this price point though, in my very limited opinion anyway. I'm not a fan of overly high fidelity tinny highs with hollow mids and weak lows. Even if it means overall a touch less clarity, I prefer the warmth and fullness. Same reason I keep ging back to Yamaha as well, can't beat the natural sound profile their solid state amps produce, (again, for the price point). 2 cents from a wanna be audiophile that never had much serious money for the hobby. I'm driving these with a Yamaha A-S301, usually just optical from a tv but also some UHD/HD Amazon music into the 301's coax spdif from a BluDento True hifi aptX blt-hd.
Pros: full rich warm sound, very clear and clean, very crisp highs for the price. Very immersive sound. Very high build quality and look great.
Cons: Need some power for these or you will regret it.
