Polk's ultra-compact Blackstone TL1 proves that you don't need a big speaker to enjoy big sound. Thanks to Polk's decades of speaker-building expertise, along with some pretty advanced driver technology, you'll experience effortlessly clear sound. And if you own a flat-panel TV, the TL1's high-gloss finish will complement it perfectly.

Advanced technology produces astonishingly realistic sound
The "TL" refers to Polk's "Time Lens" technology, which aligns the drivers in such a way that all the sounds reach your ears at the same time. This improves the speaker's imaging and soundstaging, so that you'll start to forget you're watching a movie and really feel like you're part of it. An "acoustic lens" in the speaker grille disperses sound waves in a way that makes your movie and music soundtracks sound larger and more open.

The "aperiodic-tuned rear port" controls air flow in and out of the enclosure, much like a breathable membrane. It gives the TL1 the acoustic benefits of both a sealed and a ported enclosure, including better bass extension and a pleasing mid-bass boost. It also means you can place this speaker in the open or against a wall, and still get great sound.

Easy speaker placement
The TL1 has a keyhole slot in the back for easy mounting to your wall straight from the box. You can also use the threaded insert to attach it to an optional speaker bracket or stand. Create your own home theatre system using a combination of black TL1s in the front of your room and white TL1 surrounds in the back. Or add a pair in either colour to the TL1600 system to get even more engaging, seven-channel surround sound.

Features

Dynamic Balance Driver Technology: Polk Audio's patented Dynamic Balance process allows Polk to design their drivers specifically for flatter frequency response, revealing the sharpest details and a more lifelike transparency, with absolutely no strain even at high volume. It's a bold, rich, warm, and lifelike sound.

  • 1/2" Silk Dome Tweeter: The Polk Audio Black Stone TL1 utilizes a 1/2" silk-polymer dome tweeter for crisp, clear imaging, and smooth response that's never tiring.
  • 2-1/2" Long-Throw Woofer: The Polk Audio Black Stone TL1 employs a 2-1/2" composite long-throw cone woofer with Dynamic Balance driver technology (Polk's patented transducer design process) that produces a flat frequency response, with sharp detail, transparency, and the ability to play loud without strain.

Note: The overall frequency response is 120Hz to 22kHz and the -3dB frequency response is 135Hz to 20kHz.

Time Lens Technology: The sophisticated laser alignment of the "acoustic center" of the Blackstone TL tweeters with their accompanying drivers results in far superior imaging. The acoustic centers of the tweeter and mid-range woofer are aligned, creating a crisp accurate soundstage. The acoustic centers of the tweeter and mid-bass driver are located in the same plane for superior imaging, while the acoustic lens incorporated in the grille smoothes the tweeter's frequency response.

Bass Reflex Enclosure: The Polk Audio Black Stone TL1 features a non-resonant composite enclosure with time-aligned geometry and an aperiodic-tuned rear port. The aperiodic-tuned rear port enables better blending with a subwoofer. This design combines the bass extension of an acoustic suspension enclosure with the mid-bass boost of a ported enclosure by controlling airflow through the port for better extension without distortion.

  • Curved Design: The Polk Audio Black Stone TL1 satellite speaker employs non-parallel surfaces that not only lead to a stronger, more rigid and acoustically inert enclosure, but they also result in less audible coloration from internal surface resonances.
  • Integrated Acoustic Lens: An innovative acoustic lens incorporated into the grille produces a high frequency response so smooth that it delivers a balanced, realistic performance. An acoustic lens is molded into the back of the speaker grille and helps create imaging frequency balance previously impossible in small high-performance satellite speakers.
  • High-Gloss Finish: The Polk Audio TL1 satellite speaker features a durable, deep automotive-strength high-gloss finish that matches today's most stylish flat-panel TVs. The TL1 is available in a high-gloss black or white finish.

5-Way Binding Posts: The Polk Audio Black Stone TL1 is equipped with one pair of 5-way binding posts to ensure a secure connection to many types of speaker cables and connectors. The binding post terminals will accept banana plugs (single or dual), pin-connectors, spade-connectors, and bare wire (18-12 AGW).

Mounting Options: The Polk Audio TL1 features three integrated rubber feet so you can sit the speaker on a stand or shelf securely. The TL1 satellite speaker feature a single keyhole slot on the back of the cabinet for wall-mounting the speaker without any additional wall-mount bracket (mounting screws not supplied). There is also a 1/4"-20 threaded insert on the back of the loudspeaker for mounting the speaker to the wall using an optional articulating bracket (sold separately).

Note: The 1/4"-20 threaded insert is recessed behind the keyhole slot and will not allow some 3rd-party wall and ceiling mount brackets to work.

Additional Speakers: The TL1 satellite speaker will require a powered subwoofer (107PSW111, sold separately) for full-range sound. You can also connect additional TL1 series speakers for 2.1, 3.1, 5.1, 6.1 and 7.1 channel home theater configurations.

Q
Polk specs 100W as top of power range, do we assume this is peak or max continuous (rms)?
miguel  May 01, 2022
3 answers
A
Managed to ask Polk Audio, this official reply: "The Polk TL 1 RMS is 65 watts, peak power is 130 watts"
miguel  May 11, 2022
A
Max
martin  May 01, 2022
A
I wouldn't push 100w out of these speaker, it's too small. I have 4 of the for rears on a 5.1 system. ( just doubled them up. ) when I watch movies they are fine no issues at all but if I crank the Denon unit almost full blast these speakers start to "fart" on heavy bass. So if you plan on playing loud a lot I'd go bigger speakers
curt j  May 01, 2022
Q
Is this speaker active or passive?
rachel  Jan 29, 2021
2 answers
A
It is a passive speaker so you'd need an amp/receiver to power them.
jose  Jan 29, 2021
A
I believe they are passive, just hook up the wire from the receiver and go.
scott  Jan 29, 2021
Q
What is the maximum size room for these as surround speakers?
david  Jul 03, 2017

A
i have them on bookcases on each side of a wall mounted tv above my fireplace. room is 25 x 35.
keith g.  Jul 04, 2017
Q
can it be mounted on a speaker stand?
jeff  Dec 01, 2015
8 answers
A
I don' think it can as it does not have a specific speaker stand bracket.
john  Dec 03, 2015
A
Yes, for sure. I'm using a set of four stands from the Sanus brand (Model: HTB3-B1), but any other brand should work, as well. Both the speakers and the stands come with various mounting hardware, virtually guaranteeing a compatible fit.
kasey  Dec 02, 2015
A
There is no real provisions for mounting on a stand except for the hole in the back that allows for a single screw to mount on the wall.
robert  Dec 02, 2015
A
Yes, there is a threaded hole on the back of the speaker. Sorry, I cannot recall the thread size, but you can take the speaker to the hardware store to match the thread and select the proper length. I mounted my speakers on a wood furring strip that I attached to my LCD TV support so that I can a nice left-right separation.
gary  Dec 02, 2015
A
Yes, it can sit on a stand or a table or mounted on the wall with then appropriate mounting bracket. The speakers are small and would not need a very big speaker stand. I have mine sitting on two of my end tables on either side of my sofa. Hope this helps.
william  Dec 02, 2015
A
I mounted mined to a wall but yes you can mount them to speaker stands
gary  Dec 02, 2015
A
Hi Jeff...No the speakers cannot be "mounted" on a stand (without some kind of home made customizing)....they will "sit" on a stand or can be hung on the wall. Jeff if I may? Unless it's absolutely necessary that said speakers be stand mounted, I would not let that deter you from considering these speakers. Mine are runnin thru an Onkyo 726 w/o an issue, in a very small (10' x 10') den area. Those along with a very decent center speaker and sub and you'll have a really functional 3.1 system expandable according to your a/v receivers ability...i.e. 5.1; 7.1; etc., assuming you have the head room...hope this helps...good luck and Happy and Safe Holidays!
lou  Dec 02, 2015
A
There looks like there a place for a speaker mount. It's threaded in the back of the speaker towards the top.
john  Dec 02, 2015
Q
Can you hook up to a projector?
pookie99  Nov 13, 2015

A
If there was a powered output probably although a amped solution would definitely work.
joel s  Nov 14, 2015
Q
Can they be mounted on ceiling?
m  Jun 14, 2015
7 answers
A
Probably depending on how you do it. The speaker has a screw like mounting hole at the back, which you could probably use to mount on the ceiling.
jan  Jun 30, 2015
A
I used the threaded hole with a speaker stand. The specs said you could use the keyhole to mount it on walls. You'll be better off with ceiling speakers than these beauty.
william  Jun 18, 2015
A
It would be difficult and not an ideal situation IMO.
james  Jun 16, 2015
A
Maybe. I have used the as bookshelf speakers. They are a bit heavy ,but with the proper mounting screws they might be mounted to the ceiling area.
almon e  Jun 15, 2015
A
Yes
carlos  Jun 15, 2015
A
THere are aftermarket mounts that will allow you to mount them from the ceiling but the speakers have a mounting point on the back that most people use to Mount on the wall.

Q
Is this speaker magnetically shielded?
alicia  Mar 16, 2014
4 answers
A
I doubt if my answer to this question is still relevant but I'll answer it anyway. YES, it is magnetically shielded. I positioned it near my tv and i don't have any interference or static. The picture and sound is clear.
william  Nov 12, 2015
A
My front speakers are only a foot and a half left and right of my 55' TV and I never experience any issues.
edmundo  Mar 16, 2014
A
Technically...I am not sure. But then I didn't care since performance is AWESOME. I ripped out my old system which cost 3x than this system and the TL1 Backstone has performed 3x better!!! I got it hooked up to a Sony STR DH710. and a Klipsch KW100. If you want more bass you may get a bigger subwoofer. My family room is 12X17 which opens to the kitchen. Stick one of the "Transformer" DVDs (my test DVD) and you got the plates, pots and pans rattling!!!
edmundo  Mar 16, 2014
A
Yes, it has also performed really well. Yet to have an issue with this speaker.
