Kappa quality

Infinity designed and built their Kappa Series for audiophile tastes. This Kappa 503CF 5-1/4" component speaker system benefits from a refined design, Infinity's proprietary technology, and premium materials to deliver uncompromised audio quality. Plus, Infinity has added convenient features for getting just the right sound for your ride.

Edge-driven silk dome tweeters

Infinity employs an edge-driven design in their silk dome tweeters for a smoother, more open response and minimal distortion at high volume. With a frequency response that peaks at 40,000 Hz, you'll have what you need to hear a new level of detail in the car. Dial in your sound even more and adjust the tweeter level using the control button on the separate crossovers.

Plus One+ woofer technology

Kappa's glass fibre woofer will hold its shape when the power's cranked up, so you still get punchy and defined bass. Glass fibre weighs less than traditional materials, so you don't need a ton of power to drive this woofer either. Infinity's Plus One+ woofer technology extends the cone right up to the edge of the basket, giving you lots of surface area — and a bigger cone means more bass to complement the superior high-frequency response.

Premium crossovers

Infinity holds their external crossovers to the same standards as the rest of this speaker system. Premium components shape the distinctive Kappa sound and bring out all the details that make your music sound real. These crossovers will easily accommodate an upgrade to a 3-way system if you'd like to add Infinity's optional 203S and 303S midrange drivers.

Awesome power handling, no matter the system

These 3-ohm speakers boast ultra-high sensitivity so that you can power them with a factory radio or aftermarket stereo, but you'll get your best results feeding them plenty of power from an outboard amp. Either way, these speakers' low impedance safely takes advantage of every watt of power available for exceptional performance. Enjoy Kappa sound quality at any volume.

Grilles are not included; the factory grilles should be suitable for most applications.

Features

Plus One Woofer Cones: The Plus One woofer cones offer more surface area than other speakers that fit in the same size opening. This is accomplished by using a new basket design and hi-roll surround. The result is greater bass output and an increase in efficiency.

Terminals: The woofer input terminals are set screws that will accept up to 12 gauge bare wire.

High-Output Design: The high output 3Ω voice coil design compensates for the high in-line resistance of small gauge factory wiring and extracts every watt from factory receivers, increasing overall system output and efficiency (relative to 4Ω speakers). The speakers also benefit from increased power when you upgrade the wire and add aftermarket amplifiers, designed to power a 3Ω load.

Edge Driven Tweeters: The ¾" edge-driven tweeters use silk domes. An edge-driven tweeter has better dispersion characteristics and allows for a lower crossover frequency than typical tweeters of the same size, which improves imaging. The result is improved vocals and musical clarity. The 6" speaker wire attached to each tweeter is terminated with male quick-slides (0.187" positive and 0.110" negative).

Tweeter Mounting: The I-Mount tweeter mounting system and Starfish mounting brackets give you several different ways to mount the tweeters:

  • I-Mount Tweeter Mounting System: The tweeters can be surface or flush mounted with Infinity's innovative I-Mount system:
    • Surface Mount: Surface mounting the tweeters involves screwing the surface-mount cup to the mounting location, then inserting and locking the tweeter into the cup.
    • Flush Mount: Flush mounting is made easy through the use of the threaded flush-mount adapter and plastic locking nut. Once a cutout is made, the flush-mount adapter (with the tweeter installed) is inserted into the hole. The large plastic locking nut is threaded onto the adapter (from behind the mounting surface) to hold the complete assembly securely in place. When flush mounted, the tweeters may be angled for optimum response and imaging.
  • Starfish Mounting Brackets: The Starfish mounting brackets allow the tweeters to be installed in factory locations behind the grilles:
    • Surface Mount (behind grille panel)
    • Flush Mount (behind grille panel)
    • Bottom Mount (to grille panel)
    • Flush Mount (in-dash location)

Crossovers: The input, tweeter output, and woofer output wires are attached to the crossovers; each is 8" long and terminated with tinned bare wire. Each crossover has a tweeter output level switch; choose between flat and -3dB. Each also has a 2-way/3-way switch used when adding a matching midrange to upgrade the system to 3-way.

Crossover Dimensions:

  • Width: 4⅛"
  • Height: 1"
  • Depth: 1⅞"

3-Way Upgrade: The included system crossovers are gap-selectable, to accommodate a midrange upgrade. The optional Kappa 203S and 303S midrange (item numbers 108K203S and 108K303S, both sold separately as a pair) include the band pass crossover to upgrade this two-way system to a three-way system with perfect tonal balance.

Customer Q&A

Q
In regards to the power rating of 80 watt rms and 240 watt max, is that per speaker or total over all handling of the package (2)?
brice  Sep 17, 2023
1 answer
A
The maximum RMS rating is for each woofer and tweeter combined, Brice. 80-watts RMS would be the maximum wattage that you could pair with the Infinity Kappa 503CF's. Since both the tweeter and the woofer are connected to the crossover, just remember that you can only send a maximum of 80-watts RMS to each crossover and woofer/tweeter connected. These Infinity Kappa 503CF's sound amazing when they are connected to a properly matched amp!

Q
The Crutchfield Component Speaker Installation Video on Youtube includes a segment where the installer wires a capacitor into the power line of the tweeters. Is that redundant or necessary? I thought the crossover itself protected the tweeters from extra power/lower frequencies. Thanks!
nathan  Aug 08, 2023
1 answer
A
Thank you for your question, Nathan. This Infinity Kappa component set has external crossovers, in the YouTube video, inline capacitor/crossovers were included with that particular speaker set. You get more control with external crossovers, but work in the same way, blocking the low frequencies going to the tweeters.

Q
Does these be compatible with 2002 Mitsubishi montero sport front door panel to interchange with factory infinti speakers?
trigger  Jul 24, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Aaron, and thank you for your question. The factory speakers are 6.5 inch, so these will need mounting adapters. The Kappa tweeters can fit in the original tweeter locations, but will need either backstraps, silicon, or hot glue to hold them in place. These Infinity Kappa speakers will require a bit more power than the factory Infinity amplifier.

Q
I have a 2001 Toyota Tacoma Xtra Cab. These Infinity Kappa 503CF appear to be an excellent replacement choice for front door. What is a good match to these for suicide rear speakers. Will any of this deliver decent bass? I don't obnoxious boom that some do & want everyone to hear, just good bass to match speaker tweeter & midrange. I have a super nice 2021 Kenwood Radio that I replaced original. Do I need a seperate Amp for all this? Thanks, Jim
jim  Jun 04, 2023
1 answer
A
That is correct Jim, the Infinity Kappa 503CF components would be an excellent choice for the front door location on your 2001 Xtra cab Taco. These speakers have excellent detail and clarity, and they do play down to 55Hz which is impressive for a speaker of this size! I would use a matching Infinity Kappa 2-way coaxial 6x8 in your lower cab corners to help bolster the low bass frequency response. The link below would be the fronts and rears in a complete kit paired to your truck! This setup would perform well with the power from your new Kenwood radio, but you can maximize the performance with an amp if you choose. The Kappa Four 4-channel in the second link below would be a great call if you wanted the most performance possible, check it out! https://www.crutchfield.com/I-rXYEc222/cart/EmailCart.aspx?emKey=3151428 https://www.crutchfield.com/p_108KFOURM/Infinity-Kappa-Four.html

Q
What is the recommended high pass crossover setting coming into and feeding this 2 speaker component system?
audio-student  Mar 10, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings John, and thank you for your question. If you are using the included crossovers, they will take in full range, then the crossovers will do their job and separate highs and lows and send them off to the woofers, and the tweeters. If your going to be adding a subwoofer and cutting out lower frequencies to these Kappas before the crossover, cut them off close to where you have your subwoofer cuts in, or a bit lower.

Q
Does the rms power rating of 80 watts increase when you add the midrange speaker and make it a three way component setup?
travis  Jan 09, 2023
1 answer
A
Yes when you add one of the optional midranges to the component system you would want to factor in the added wattage when calculating the total RMS.

Q
Installing Infinity Kappa 503CF component speakers into front doors of 2009 Pontiac Vibe with existing tweeter and 5.5" speaker. How do I wire the new speakers thru the infinity crossover-do I connect the factory tweeter and 5.5 speaker wires together then connect to the infinity crossover?
michael  Aug 25, 2022
1 answer
A
The 5-1/4" woofers and 3/4" tweeters in this set each have their own connections to the crossovers. The wires for the woofer and tweeter should not be connected together, but instead each should be connected to its respective wire on the crossover. If you purchased these speakers from us, our Tech Support team will be happy to help in greater detail over the phone. Our toll-free Tech Support number is printed on your invoice, and is also available under the "My Orders" tab in the "My Account" section of our website. Q
I ordered 3 sets of these speakers for my 2003 Ford excursion. Should I be using an amp to get desired power to all the speakers? If so what would a recommend one be? How would I go about setting it up? Sorry for the stupid questions, have never upgraded a stereo before.

A
I didnt order an amp. However, you will get the best sound from all of your speakers with an amp. As for which one, I dont have that answer. I'm sure a Crutchfield assistant can determine that for you.
