The legend continues...

Infinity's reputation is legendary, but their Kappa Series car speakers don't rest on those laurels. Designed and built for audiophile tastes, this Kappa 60csx 6-/2" component speaker system benefits from a refined design, Infinity's proprietary technology, and premium materials to deliver uncompromised audio quality.

Edge-driven dome tweeters

Infinity employs an edge-driven design in their soft dome tweeters for a smoother, more open response and minimal distortion at high volume. Prepare for a more clearly defined soundstage and marvel as your music seems to come alive across your dash.

Woofers enhanced with Plus One+ technology

Bring on the bass. Kappa's glass fibre woofer will hold its shape when the power's cranked up, so you still get punchy and defined bass. Glass fibre weighs less than traditional materials, so you don't need a ton of power to drive this woofer either. Infinity's Plus One+ woofer technology extends the cone right up to the edge of the basket, giving you lots of surface area — and a bigger cone means more bass to complement the superior high-frequency response.

Premium crossovers

Infinity holds their external crossovers to the same standards as the rest of this speaker system. Premium components shape the distinctive Kappa sound and bring out all the details that make your music sound real.

These crossovers will easily accommodate an upgrade to a 3-way system if you'd like to add Infinity's optional Kappa 20mx 2" midrange drivers.

Awesome power handling, no matter the system

These 2.5-ohm speakers boast ultra-high sensitivity so that you can power them with a factory radio or aftermarket stereo, but we recommend feeding them plenty of power from an outboard amp — up to 100 watts RMS. Either way, these speakers' low impedance safely takes advantage of every watt of power available for exceptional performance. Enjoy Kappa sound quality at any volume. Grilles are included.

Features

Plus One Woofer Cones: The Plus One woofer cones offer more surface area than other speakers that fit in the same size opening. This is accomplished by using a new basket design and hi-roll surround. The result is greater bass output and an increase in efficiency.

High-Output Design: The high output 2.5Ω voice coil design compensates for the high in-line resistance of small gauge factory wiring and extracts every watt from factory receivers, increasing overall system output and efficiency (relative to 4Ω speakers). The speakers also benefit from increased power when you upgrade the wire and add aftermarket amplifiers, designed to power a 2.5Ω load.

Woofer Mounting Applications: These speakers are marketed as 6-1/2"; the woofers will fit in standard 6-1/2" speaker openings (approximately 5" diameter), but do not use the standard 6-1/2" speaker bolt pattern. In order to install them in standard 6-1/2" speaker openings you must drill new screw holes. If new holes are drilled in the mounting surface of the car, no bracket is needed. If drilling in the car is not an option, the included brackets can be used, which have standard 6-1/2" mounting holes and the Ford non-symmetric four hole pattern. When using the brackets the depth becomes 1.868" and the mounting height becomes 0.755".

Woofer Terminals: The woofers' input terminals are set screws that will accept up to 12 gauge bare wire.

Edge Driven Tweeters: The edge-driven tweeters use textile soft domes. An edge-driven tweeter has better dispersion characteristics and allows for a lower crossover frequency than typical tweeters of the same size, which improves imaging, vocals and musical clarity.

Tweeter Mounting: The I-Mount tweeter mounting system and Starfish mounting brackets give you several different ways to mount the tweeters:

  • I-Mount Tweeter Mounting System: The tweeters can be surface or flush mounted with Infinity's innovative I-Mount system:
    • Surface Mount: Surface mounting the tweeters involves screwing the surface-mount cup to the mounting location, then inserting and locking the tweeter into the cup.
    • Flush Mount: Flush mounting is made easy through the use of the threaded flush-mount adapter and plastic locking nut. Once a cutout is made, the flush-mount adapter (with the tweeter installed) is inserted into the hole. The large plastic locking nut is threaded onto the adapter (from behind the mounting surface) to hold the complete assembly securely in place. When flush mounted, the tweeters may be angled for optimum response and imaging.
  • Starfish Mounting Brackets: The Starfish mounting brackets allow the tweeters to be installed in factory locations behind the grilles:
    • Surface Mount (behind grille panel): Once the Starfish bracket is trimmed, it is screwed to the mounting surface behind the grille panel. Then, the tweeter is inserted into the bracket and locked into place.
    • Flush Mount (behind grille panel): Once the Starfish bracket is trimmed, it is dropped into the cutout in the mounting surface behind the grille panel. Then, the tweeter is inserted into the bracket and locked into place.
    • Bottom Mount (to grille panel): Once the Starfish bracket is trimmed, it is secured to the underside of the grille panel. The tweeter must be inserted into the bracket and locked into place before the bracket is mounted.

Crossovers: Each crossover has a tweeter output level switch; choose between flat and +3dB. They have screw terminal inputs and outputs that will accept bare wire or spade connectors up to 0.315" wide.

Crossover Dimensions:

  • Diameter: 4-3/8"
  • Height: 1-3/8"

3-Way Upgrade: The system crossovers are gap-selectable, to accommodate a midrange upgrade. The optional 20mx midrange (item number 108K20MXM, sold separately) includes band pass crossover to upgrade this two-way system to a three-way system with perfect tonal balance.

Q
What will happen if I run those 2.5ohm components on a 4ohm stable amp? Would I need a 2ohm stable amp?

A
You need a 2 ohm amp you will eventually ruin a 4 ohm amp

I am using these speakers with a 4-channel Pioneer amp spec'd @ 100 watts into 4 ohms. The amp is also spec'd @ 150 watts into 2 ohms. I have not had any issues with this combo, even at elevated levels. Maybe the amp you are looking at has an additional spec @ 2 ohms? If not, I would recommend an amp that is spec'd for 2 ohms just to be safe. Hope this helps.
james  Aug 16, 2021
A
Your Amp will get hot up burn up or blow a fuse. Not designed for that load so wouldn't be wise to try it.. Perhaps you can hook them up in series so the resistance adds. You would have to have 4 speakers. 2 in back and 2 in front. You could hook up the front and rear drivers side in series and that would be one channel. Do the same to the Front and rear on the passenger side. Only problem is you will have no fading control (will not be able to control volume front vs rear) but it is an option. I am using the JL audio 4 channel JD 400 amp to run 4 speakers crossed over at 80 Hz.. It is 2 ohm stable but does get hot. Hotter than my sub or tweeter amp. So far amp has not shut down.

Q
How to remove crossover top?
kris  Apr 11, 2021

A
the design is horrible. It is difficult to remove the tops without damaging the switch that controls 2 or 3 way. Huge bulky round crossovers. Do yourself a favor use a DSP to cross them over.
jim  Aug 16, 2021
A
Look on the side you will see two dots lined together turn top part until dots are no longer ilined up ten it will come apart where you can gain access to wiring connections reverse process to put back together
charles  Apr 11, 2021
Q
Do I use the crossovers when connecting to a 2020 Ford Explorer without the B&O system or do I connect the woofer and tweeter directly to the head unit?
scott  Feb 21, 2021
2 answers
A
You absolutely must use the crossovers. If you don't you run the risk of burning up your components. The crossover is specifically designed to drive your components for maximum performance.
rodney  Jun 20, 2021
A
The only reason to not use the crossover would be a bi-amped system where the woofer and tweeter are fed from separate amps that have been fed from an electronic crossover. So For example, if you have just one pair of wires per channel for the rear speakers, you will need the crossover.

The amp I have is 2 ohm stable. Will these 2.5 ohm components work well with that?

Yes. I have the same set. They have been working flawlessly for over a year now.

Q
Does anyone know the cutout diameter and mounting depth for the tweeters?
mark  Aug 26, 2020
1 answer
A
Outside Diameter is 3.5 centimeters. Mounting depth is 1.5 cm the Tweeter is in a small plastic enclosure perhaps could be removed if dimensions are too large for your particular installation but I wouldn't recommend recommend it because the small plastic enclosure has a grill and protects the Tweeter. The Tweeter is small enough I am sure you could take a piece of velcro and attach that also and there are many different mounting options in the kit

Infinity hands down paired with the right amp.

I can't speak for the Sony's but with the Kappa's there's the option to make it a 3 way. I originally installed the mids in my doors and tweeters in the factory dash locations and was happy. I decided to buy the optional 3 way kit and was amazed by the difference. Those little 2" speakers (mounted where the tweeters were, tweeters moved over) made a huge difference and moved the sound stage up where it should be. I think it's about as good as you could expect from a passive setup.

I've never heard the sony speakers in application or with amp I know the inifinity speakers sound excellent running a Rockford punch amp 600x4 with 2 more kappa 6x9 s it handles the power well
charles  Apr 19, 2020
Q
do you I need a seperate power source(channels) source to add the 20mx(3 way setup), or does it feed power from the x-over network from the 60csx, and will be bandpassed?
emad  Apr 07, 2020

A
You don't need another amp. You just connect from the midrange 20mx crossover to the 60csx 2 way / 3way crossover and move the button in it to the 3-way position.
edgard  Apr 21, 2020
A
They just plug right into the 60csx crossover. There's a switch on it that you flip from 2 way to 3 way and that's it's. No extra amp needed and they sound excellent.
ngoc  Apr 21, 2020
A
No extra power source needed. The IK20 connects with a supplied cable. Then just speaker wire from the IK20 crossover. I'm so glad i purchased the IK20. Its loud and crystal clear. You dont know what your missing till you here that midrange.
jeffrey  Apr 21, 2020
A
I purchased the 20mx to go with the 90csx, I think. But, no you do not need a separate power source. The 20mx crossover plugs directly into the main speaker crossover. In my setup, the front channel out, from an Audio Control amp, powers both. I cut and tapped the speaker wires behind the head unit to feed the amp that powers the front speakers and a subwoofer. The original speaker wires from the head unit still power the rear channel speakers. If you are not adding an amp, make sure your head unit has enough power to push your chosen speakers.
jimmy d.  Apr 20, 2020
A
It works just from the audio. No power needed.

the Tweeter outside diameter measures 1.4 inch which is neither one or two inch but I suppose I would classify it as a 1-inch tweeter

they never specifically say. If I had to guess based on pictures, and measurements, I'd say most likely a 1" tweeter.

Okay, I have a 2015 Kia Sorento with the factory Infinity system. I blew one of the door speakers so I am looking at replacing my speakers. I want to stick with Infinity because I donâ??t want the Infinity logo stamped on my door but I would know that there is something else in there. That would not be good for my sanity. Now to get to my question, I know that the subs go in the bottom panel on the front doors, I know where the tweeters go, but where do the â??crossoversâ?? go? As I reread this I realize that I sound like an incompetent ass, I assure you I am not, I just have never studied automotive audio systems.

Hi! Thank you for your question. No worries! We are always happy to help, and realize the world of car audio is likely new to many of our customers. It is typically recommended that you put the crossover in the actual panel of the door. It is most common that folks use heavy-duty Velcro to mount the crossover to. If the crossovers are too large to fit in that location, you may need to find an alternate space such as under a seat. It is recommended that the crossover be placed as close to the speakers as possible, since that will help cut down on noise. Feel free the to chat with us online or by phone at 1-800-324-9695, our team of Advisors will be more than happy to talk this over with you.

What would the best amp be to power two sets of these? (2 for front and 2 for back). The 2.5 ohm is confusing me. My old speakers were 4ohms and I want to get the best quality sound possible
