Product Research

Features

Vehicle Compatibility: The Metra 99-5847CH includes a dash kit, touchscreen display with built-in radio replacement interface module, plus comes with wiring harnesses and adapters that allow the replacement of the factory radio (w/ 4.2" screen) in your 2011-2015 Ford Explorer with an aftermarket head unit, while retaining important factory features.

Single or Double-DIN Dash Kit: The included kit features high-grade ABS plastic and is contoured to match your vehicle's factory dashboard color and texture. The dash kit will fit most single-DIN or Double-DIN aftermarket head units. Single-DIN radios will mount with the included pocket. Double-DIN radios will mount without pocket. The Metra 99-5847CH allows for installation of your new aftermarket head unit in the upper or lower area of the dash kit.

4.2" LCD Touchscreen (w/ Climate Control & Vehicle Settings): The Metra 99-5847CH includes a 4.2" touchscreen display which mounts in the dash kit. Push-button controls are mounted on either side of the 4.2" LCD touchscreen. The 4.2" LCD touchscreen and push-button controls let you retain climate and vehicle customization functions that are normally lost when removing the factory radio are retained. The kit also includes an integrated hazard button and passenger airbag light.

Retained Features: The Metra 99-5847CH's radio replacement interface module is built into the touchscreen & push-button control interface. The following factory features are retained -

  • Ford SYNC: The 99-5847CH will retain the Ford SYNC system (including USB & Aux) through your aftermarket radio's rear-panel Aux input (a minijack-to-RCA may be required - sold separately). Your aftermarket radio must be set to the Aux input to hear SYNC functions.
  • Factory Amplifier & Sub: The Metra 99-5847CH will retain your vehicle's factory amplifier and sub, along with balance and fade control.
  • Steering Wheel Controls: The Metra 99-5847CH  lets you retain your vehicle's factory steering wheel controls when used with a SWC compatible aftermarket receiver (no additional adapter required).
  • Factory Backup Camera: Your vehicle's factory backup camera is retained through the Metra 99-5847CH. You can choose to have the camera display on the 99-5847CH 's 4.2" LCD touchscreen or your aftermarket head unit's LCD touchscreen. If you want the factory backup camera to display on your aftermarket radio's LCD touchscreen, the head unit must have a composite video camera input.
  • R.A.P. (Retained Accessory Power): RAP (Retained Accessory Power) keeps the radio powered on after the key is off, until the driver door is opened or the OEM timer ends; whichever happens first. The 99-5847CH will retain this factory function.
Note: There is a female composite video connector labeled "AUX video" which will not be used. There is also a multi-pin DIN connector which will not be used.

+12V/10A Accessory Output: In the 2011-2015 Ford Explorer , there is no 12-volt accessory wire in the factory harness, so the 99-5847CH is designed to provide a 12V/10A switched accessory output (red wire). Otherwise, you would need to run an accessory wire to the fuse box or underneath the steering column when installing an aftermarket radio

Navigation Outputs:  The Metra 99-5847CH provides wired outputs for navigation radio installation; including a VSS (vehicle speed sense), Parking Brake, and a Reverse Gear output to make installing an aftermarket navigation head unit simpler and less time consuming.

Q
Will this fit in a 2013 Ford Police Interceptor Sedan?

A
i don't know about sedan but i had it replace in ford explore police interceptor fits great on that ..
[ ZAHEERUDDIN  Sep 23, 2021 ]
A
Yes it will fit. Do keep in mind that there is the possibility that the backup camera function may not work since some of the pins in the harness do not match. You will need to use both big harnesses, but follow the instructions on the manual.

It does not power up. It will work on a civilian Explorer. We used Crux interface. BEEBF-32. Works great. Crutchfield was very helpful to find my solution. Ward

I installed in my 2014 PIU and fits/works perfectly. Steering wheel controls for radio are an issue.

Q
I have a high powered aftermarket sub set installed in my 2013 Explorer so I need to know if this Turbo Touch Kit has an option to digitally view the Voltage of the car battery in real time on the screen for demo purposes? And secondly can this screen also show my MPH and Miles till empty real time digitally?

I had to send it back because it did not match the configuration of my aftermarket pioneer radio. Sorry I cannot answer your question as I never had it installed
[ DANIEL  Feb 22, 2019 ]
A
The new dash kit will self program to whatever year make and model you have my explorer was the 2011 base model,so my smaller screen just has the temp controls on it. It should give you whatever you have now unless you have the fully loaded bigger screen. Does your dad screen not show the mph and miles to empty ?
[ Christopher  Feb 21, 2019 ]
A
No and either one.why do you need MPH digitally? And miles till empty is on the dash.
[ chris  Feb 21, 2019 ]
A
I couldn't get mine to work properly in my car because it is a former police car and the software wasn't compatible with the vehicle computer. When it was working I don't remember any ability to do that. Outside temperature also does not work on any explorer. I ended up using the 99-5828CH kit which is the older version and is much more analog and uses the factory touch screen. They don't make the 5828 any more and I had a hard time finding one. With the 5828 you need a steering wheel control adapter, I used the Maestro unit and with a compatible radio it plugs into the OBD2 connector and can display over 20 different readouts from the computer, everything you mentioned and more. You can choose 10 of them and view them as gauges 5 each on 2 different screens. Very cool. If you can't find a 5828 kit talk to the Metra tech support and ask them if you can use the Maestro kit with the 5847 instead of the steering wheel controls that are built in to the 5847 kit. Hope this helps.

A
No on a voltage, MPH, and Miles, have a Rockford capacitor to see voltage
