This unit is designed to mount out of sight in a cabin or cubby, controlled by the  JL Audio MediaMaster® MMR-40 network remote (sold separately). You can also add a wide range of NMEA 2000-compatible multi-function devices, including chartplotters and fish finders (also sold separately).

Plenty of ways to play

This hideaway box contains a built-in AM/FM tuner, plus two USB ports and two auxiliary inputs. Built-in Bluetooth connectivity lets you stream music from just about any phone. You can also plug in a USB thumb drive or portable player and enjoy MP3 and WMA files you've ripped from your CD collection. The built-in four channel amp (30 watts RMS x 4) powers the speakers in two separate zones. Want more sound? The MM80-HR has 4-channel preamp outputs for connecting external amps and building up your system.

Three-zone capable

You can use this powerful little receiver to create a three-zone system on your boat. Each zone features a zero-clipping audio circuit to protect your speakers from blowing up while you're rocking out. Level Control Mode let you adjust all three zones, together or individually. You can also name the zones to make it easier to control your system at a glance.

Marine-rated durability

JL Audio designs their marine gear to stand up to salt water, heavy fog, blistering sunlight, and lashing rain. All that hard work leads to quality gear that's engineered to stand up to the extremes of a marine environment.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

    Marine Features

Hide-Away Marine Source Unit: The JL Audio MM80-HR is a hide-away marine source unit that requires the MediaMaster MMR-40 NMEA2000 network remote controller (13699910, sold separately) or a NMEA 2000 compatible MFD (sold separately) for operation of the concealed audio receiver (there are not physical controls on the MM80-HR hide-away source box). Cable and T-connector are included to integrate the MM80-HR into your NMEA 2000 network.

NMEA2000 Remote (sold separately): The MMR-40 (13699910, sold separately) is a NMEA 2000 network remote controller designed to add full-function, auxiliary control to the MediaMaster MM80-HR source unit. The MMR-40 can be connected to the MediaMaster source unit through an established NMEA 2000 network (NMEA 200 cables and connectors sold separately), or a "closed" network using JL Audio's Powered Network Cable (13699928, sold separately). It will automatically recognize the connected host MM50 source unit. All host source unit controls and screen info are then mirrored onto the MMR-40's full-color, 2.8" LCD screen.

    • 2.8" LCD Screen: The JL Audio MMR-40 NMEA 2000 network remote controller is equipped with an easy-to-read, high-brightness, 2.8" full-color LCD screen with a resolution of 320 x 240. The MMR-40 offers independent day/night display themes and lighting controls. All off the MediaMaster MM80HR host source unit screen information will be visible on the MMR-40's 2.8" LCD screen.
    • Backlit Controls: The JL Audio MMR-40 offers large backlit controls that consist of eight push-buttons and one 3-way rotary knob. All off the MediaMaster MM80-HR host source unit's controls will be operated through the MMR-40 remote.
    • Mounting Options: The MediaMaster MMR-40 requires a rectangular cutout (3.65"W x 3.065"H) in the bulkhead for inserting the chassis. Four screws (supplied) fasten the unit against the mounting surface, and hold the waterproof gasket against the bulkhead. A cardboard template is supplied to assist you with the cutout and drilling the screw holes.

Note: Engineered for real-world marine (and many outdoor) applications, the JL Audio MMR-40 NMEA 2000 remote controller features a weatherproof (IP66 rated) chassis and is built to withstand the harshest environments. A protective sun cover is also included when not in use. While the MMR-40 is designed to be water-resistant, it should never be submerged under water or subjected to high-pressure water spray. Do not install the remote in areas of extreme heat.

NMEA 2000 Compliant: The MediaMaster MM80-HR is NMEA 2000 compliant and is compatible with a range of the world's leading Multi-Function Displays (MFD) for on-screen audio control; creating a centralized control station for your boat and a more user-friendly experience. NMEA 2000 is the most popular marine standard for data communication within boats, watercrafts, and vessels. When connecting the MM80-HR with a NMEA 2000 supported Chartplotter or Fish finder, you bring your music to the big screen, allowing you to keep an eye on the charts or the fish while skipping tracks or adjusting the volume at the same time.

Water Resistant Design: JL Audio's MediaMaster MM80-HR features water resistant construction (IPX2 rated) to help it withstand the marine environment. The MM80-HR has been tested to withstand dripping water when rotated 15-degrees in an y direction from vertical for at least 10 minutes.

Note: While designed to be water resistant, the MM80-HR should never be submerged under water or exposed to heavy spray/splashing that exceeds its rating.

Mounting Options: The MM80-HR is designed to be mounted out of sight in the boat or vessel's cabin away from direct exposure to sunlight, water, and the marine environment. It features integrated mounting flanges to secure the hide-away source unit to a flat surface of your boat using four screws (not included). The JL Audio MM80-HR measures 9.25" (w) x 2.25" (h) x 5.9375" (d).

Zone 2 can only be powered by the built-in amplifier, while Zone 3 only offers low-level line outputs for connecting an external amplifier. Each zone has its own flexible audio options and is controlled by a MMR-40 NMEA 2000 network remote or a NMEA 2000 compatible MFD (both sold separately) giving you complete command of volume levels in different areas of your boat. All zones also utilize a zero-clipping audio circuit, with self-limiting tone controls to prevent speaker system damage.

    Built-In 30W x 4Ch Amplifier: The MM80-HR's built-in amplifier generates 160 watts of high-fidelity output (rated at 30 watts RMS x 4 channel) to power speakers in Zone 1 and Zone 2.

This is compatible with a 12v system.... If you have a place to mount it remotely and buy the controller there should be no reason you cannot run this in a hotrod.
