New ideas

When you're looking for a new subwoofer, you want deep, rich bass. Sony's Mobile ES Series XS-W104ES 10" sub is engineered from top to bottom with proprietary Sony technology to deliver low frequencies at high volume levels with minimal distortion, so you'll get the best bass possible.

Into the cone zone

The XS-W104ES features a Mica Reinforced Cellular (MRC) cone, created for high rigidity, light weight and good internal loss. This material combines a layer of mica flakes and paper pulp with a honeycomb-shaped aramid fibre core, for a speaker cone that's 10 times stronger than polypropylene. You'll hear cleaner, more realistic bass with smoother, more natural sound characteristics, along with powerful bass that stays tight at the highest volume levels. In short, this sub is all about accuracy.

Intelligent design

The woofer surround features another proprietary Sony technology that uses distinctive curved notches to ensure that the cone stays on track. The acoustically-optimized double-layered spider maximizes power handling, with a profile designed for more rapid and precise cushioning of the speaker cone. The sub's "Five-beam Frame" design virtually eliminates resonance, while its integrated Dynamic Air Diffuser ensures efficient air circulation to keep things cool when the music gets hot.

If you're looking for superior low-frequency punch, this unique Mobile ES sub uses proprietary materials and creative design to bring high-performance bass to your ride and give you the gift of great sound.

Product Research

Features

Specifications: Sony's rated power spec for the XS-W104ES is 350 watts (derived using IEC 60268-5 standards). In the manual they also list the CTA 2031 compliant RMS power as 450 watts. We've adopted the 450 watt RMS rating because CTA 2031 is the more common rating system.

Spring Posts: The spring post wire terminals will accept pin connectors, single banana plugs, and bare wire up to 10 gauge. The binding posts are spaced too far apart to accept standard dual banana plugs (3/4").

Enclosure Compatibility: The XS-W104ES is compatible with either a sealed or ported enclosure.

  • Sealed Box Volume: The ideal sealed box volume is 1.01 ft³.
  • Ported Box Volume: The ideal ported box volume is 1.44 ft³ with a 4" diameter and 13⅞" long port.

Trim Ring: When using the included cosmetic trim ring the dimensions change slightly:

  • Top Mount:
    • Flange Height: 0.72"
    • Mounting Height: 0.72"
  • Bottom Mount:
    • Depth: 6.102"
    • Protrusion: 0" (zero)

Q
What is the recommended crossover frequency for this subwoofer? I am complementing a pair of these 10" subs with a pair of the mobile es 6.5" 2 way separates and a pair of the 6.5" mobile es coaxials.
jeffrey  Sep 08, 2022

A
Generally we would start with the crossover set at 80Hz. However, it may be necessary to adjust the crossover depending on the performance of the speakers given your vehicle's acoustics and the interaction between the speakers and the amplifier that is powering them.
