About the Kicker 48CWRT672

Bob Bihlmayer

Big sound from a small sub

If you're looking for bass for a tight space, Kicker designed their CompRT subs with compact cars, pickup trucks, and ATVs in mind. The low-profile 48CWRT672 6-3/4” subwoofer performs just like a full-size sub, but without killing all your cargo space. This high-performance CompRT sub is less than 3" deep, so your installation options are wide open. Kicker has redesigned the forced-air cooling system, so this sub will run cooler when you drive it hard (and you know you will).

Made to bring the boom

The 48CWRT672 comes equipped with a rigid injection-moulded polypropylene cone that won't flex and cause distortion while you're cranking the bass. Its rubber surround will last through years of heavy use, combining with a special-design back and top plate to give you more excursion (which equals more bass) than other skinny subs.

Made to fit many systems

This sub handles up to 150 watts RMS so make sure you've got a solid amp to power it. You can wire the dual voice coils for either 1- or 4-ohm total impedance, giving you more wiring options when setting up your system. This versatile sub sounds its best in sealed enclosures.

Product Research

Features

Dual Voice Coils: This woofer features dual 2Ω voice coils, offering wiring flexibility. When the voice coils are wired in parallel, the woofer presents a 1Ω load. When the voice coils are wired in series, the woofer presents a 4Ω load.

Shallow-Mount: Kicker's CompRT series is designed to minimize depth, giving you subwoofer options where standard enclosures don't fit.

All-Weather: Although not marine certified, Kicker describes the CompRT series as weatherproof.

Cooling: Kicker engineers developed a Forced Air Cooling system, using the motor structure to pull air across the voice coils, helping the sub run up to 20% cooler than the previous model.

Sealed Enclosures: Kicker recommends the CWRT67 be mounted in a sealed enclosure, between 0.18 ft³ and 0.75 ft³. Sealed enclosures provide the most control over a woofer and provide accurate sonic reproduction, making them suitable to all types of music.

Q
Will this fit in my 2000 Toyota Tacoma rear cab corners? I can drill new mounting holes. If so, will it sound ok?
court  Apr 10, 2024
1 answer
A
Hey Court, trying to mount these in your rear cab corners will require some modification to make that work. The cutout diameter is over 3/4" bigger than the existing hole but the mounting height of the subs are over 1-1/2" taller than that location allows as well. Also if you planned on running these just off of a headunit, there will not be enough power to drive these as they are a true subwoofer but with an amp, assuming you put the modifications to make them work, they should sound pretty solid in that location as Kicker can play nice in smaller areas like that.

Q
I drive a 2008 Scion TC, and would like to know if Crutchfield will provide a walk through of how to pull the factory sub box, as well as the install?
nonamecowboy  Feb 18, 2024

A
Greetings Philip. Thank you for your question. Factory removal instructions for the TC are included with the vehicle master sheet. Once your order ships we email you the instructions.

Q
Is this a direct replacement for 2012 bmw 535i under seat subwoofer?
william  Feb 03, 2024
1 answer
A
Greetings William. Thank you for your question. No sir. The factory subwoofer is 9 inch and 7.4 ohms. I do have direct fit BMW specific 8 inch subwoofers, but they are going to need more power than the factory amp has to give. If you would like to explore those options, please contact one of our advisors at 800-324-9695.

Q
Will this fit a Honda Elements current subwoofer mount? Redrilling hole is OK with me, I'm just worried about depth and circumference.
gabriel  Sep 28, 2023
1 answer
A
I would be happy to help, Gabe. We need to know the specific year of your Element to confirm any fit information. We do not list these in our online Vehicle Guide as a fit, but the measurements look promising. I show that in most years without a center console the factory subwoofer enclosure can handle speakers with a maximum depth of around 4", with maximum magnet size of 5". I would advise using the alternate impedance model in the link below, so you can wire it in parallel to show 2-ohms which matches your original subwoofer for best volume performance when using the factory amp. This Kicker is within the measurements, though we cannot guarantee a fit. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_20648CT674/Kicker-48CWRT674.html

Q
Will the Kicker 47KEY500.1 Amp be a good choice for this? It seems to meet all the specs.
dennis  May 10, 2023
1 answer
A
The Kicker 47KEY500.1 amp would very much be an excellent choice here, Dennis. You would need to make sure to wire the CompRT's dual coils to a 4-ohm configuration to get the correct 150-watts RMS from the amp, that is exactly the maximum RMS for the Kicker speaker! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_20647KEY50/Kicker-47KEY500-1.html

Q
Can I run two seperate channels into this? Will the load then be 2ohm on each channel?
t  Oct 01, 2022
1 answer
A
If you were to do that, each coil would present a 2-ohm load, and could handle 75 watts RMS. you just need to ensure that both channels are playing the EXACT same thing.

Q
Can I run this free air?
mister  Jul 22, 2022

A
That Kicker subwoofer is not designed to be run free air.

Q
Is the RMS the same at 1 ohm and 4 Ohm? or does the RMS change based on the wiring configuration?
evan  Jul 10, 2022
1 answer
A
The wattage would stay the same regardless of how it is wired, whether it be to 1 ohm or 4 ohm.

Q
Can I use these to replace only the front door speaker of the component speakers in my 2015 Mazda 3?
alan  Jun 19, 2022
1 answer
A
These Kickers are a phyiscal fit in the front door, but may not be the best choice performance wise. These really do need component amp power driving them. If you are looking for increased performance and a factory fit these Focal ISU 165 components in the link below are a much better fit for your ride. You can use only the lower woofer, OR choose to replace the tweeters as well for a larger upgrade. If you're looking for a good drop in fit from Kicker try the 47KSC6504 I've also linked below, they are a drop in fit and work well on the factory radio's power without an external amp. I hope this helps! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_091ISU165/Focal-ISU-165.html https://www.crutchfield.com/p_20647KSC65/Kicker-47KSC6504.html

Q
I have a 2019 KIA Sorrento EX. If I swap these speakers out for the rear door speakers. A.) If these are 2 ohm and the stereo is 4 ohm, would this cause my stock stereo to incur major power drain, overheat its amplifier, and eventually fail? B.) How difficult is it to install the amp and where would it be placed? C.) Without an amp, percentage wise what is the difference bass performance?
brian  May 24, 2022
1 answer
A
Thank you for reaching out to us and those are great questions! Assuming that you have the premium audio system, your stock speakers are 2 ohms so we would actually suggest going with the Kicker 48CWRT674 so you can wire the speakers down to the 2 ohm load and get the full use out of your amp. Your stereo is only sending signal to the amp so it being 4 ohms will not harm anything unless you were to bypass it and try to run the speakers directly off of the radio. If you were to use the speakers you have mentioned you would lose about half your potential power and a replacement amp isn't difficult, per say, but time consuming with rewiring and might require relocation to a different part of your car depending on how large the new one was.

The Kicker 48CWRT672 can be wired for a 4-ohm load. These subs do require an aftermarket amp for power to perform well. The correct power match means better bass too. Using a 2-ohm speaker though with a 4-ohm only stable radio can damage the radio. Amp placement is optional; but, we have a great amp installation guide available here: https://www.crutchfield.com/learn/learningcenter/car/amplifier_installation_guide.html

I used this as a direct replacement in my 03 Element which has a small amp and the sound upgrade is great. If the radio you get has the wiring for this you won't need an amp but a little power to it brings out the bass

Don't need an amp to run it, but you will need an amp to unlock its full potential!

Will these work with factory radio in 2017 Ford F150 with 8in lcd display. Do I need an amp or what additional installation parts?
dereka  Jul 24, 2021

A
You will want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility with your factory system. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and see if this will integrate. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you.

Q
I want to surface mount one or two of these in my boat that has very little mounting options; one would be cut into a small (not sealed) compartment below the sink, and possibly a second one cut into an underseat storage compartment (not sealed). How would these do not being in an enclosure? I have a Kenwood mono amp that would power them at the RMS rating. I'm looking for clean bass that can get loud, but not enough to supply music for a dock or beach party.

These kickers give out a great deal of bass in my rear door panel of my chevy avalanche paired with the Kicker 46CXA400.1 amp. The 48CWRT672 are dual coil and have several connection options be sure to check with tech support for best option for the amp you are using. I really think you will enjoy the sound these subs gives out. The bass is clean and loud, and will supply the sound you are looking for and more.

I got this speaker for my daughters Jeep Renegade--it's the only thing that I could find that would fit due to its shallow mounting depth. Just using the factory radio & amp--but it seems to put out very good sound. Much better than her other speakers in the jeep. It also has the dual voice coils so it works with both channels great. I am pleased with my purchase & Crutchfield was a tremendous help in making sure that it fit my needs. Thanks Steve
steve  Jul 26, 2021
A
Probably not a good option not being in an enclosure.
keith  Jul 25, 2021

I am not sure, but everything I have read is that they need to have some kind of enclosure so the air doesn't escape and gives better sound

Q
Can this sub be run continuously at 200 watts rms?
whit  Apr 08, 2021
1 answer
A
This subwoofer's recommended power range is up to 150 watts RMS. While 200 watts RMS does not exceed its peak power, we do not recommend giving it more than 150 watts RMS as that's where it will give its best sound. We have other subwoofers that can handle 200 watts RMS and advisors that can be reached by calling 1-800-324-9695 who can help give you a recommendation for your setup
