About the Kicker 48TRTP102

Bob Bihlmayer

Enlarge your horizons with bigger bass

Kicker's TRTP102 loaded enclosure puts a low-profile CompRT 10" subwoofer and a 10" passive sub in a downward-firing box that brings Kicker bass power to the crowded spaces of today's cars and trucks. The rugged sealed box was designed specifically for the subwoofer, so you can count on getting maximum performance whatever music you listen to. The second sub (called a "passive radiator") reacts to the air pressure produced by the active sub, reinforcing the low end without the noise of a ported enclosure.

Made to dish it out

The CompRT sub's tough injection-moulded polypropylene cone gives it the stiffness to resist distortion when you're pushing the volume. Its rubber surround stands up to heavy use, and combines with a specially-designed back plate to give you more excursion (which equals more bass) than other skinny subs. This sub handles up to 400 watts RMS, so you'll get the kind of bass response that brings the best out of your music.

Good-looking and tough

The box's downward-firing design helps protect the sub from damage, and lets you place items on top of the cabinet to save space. Its sturdy medium-density fiberboard construction and rugged black carpet covering give the enclosure good looks that complement its performance.

Features

Woofer & Passive Radiator: The Kicker 48TRTP102 enclosure is loaded with one 10" CompRT series subwoofer. The Kicker subwoofer features a polypropylene cone with a Santoprene surround. The surround and cone are attached using Kicker's signature red double stitching, providing an outstanding bond. Along with the subwoofer, the 48TRTP102 features a 10" Kicker reFLEX passive radiator, providing extremely low bass from a compact sealed enclosure.

Forced Air Cooling: Kicker uses their SoloKon technology to join the cone to the vented back brace, creating a single integrated unit. This forces air through the motor assembly allowing it to run 20% cooler and helping eliminate distortion.

Down-Firing Enclosure: The sealed down-firing enclosure is made of heavy-duty MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) with extensive internal bracing, providing exceptional acoustic efficiency and deep powerful bass. The enclosure is covered in sleek black carpeting for added protection and a refined look. Its compact, down-firing form allows it to be mounted in cargo areas, or under seats. Four rubber spacers are included that mount to the bottom of the enclosure, providing additional enclosure height.

Speaker Terminals: A single pair of spring-posts are mounted on the underside of the enclosure in a recessed terminal cup, and will accept pin connectors, single banana plugs, or bare wire up to 10 gauge.

Power: The single 2Ω CompRT subwoofer can handle 200W-400W RMS (800W peak).

Break-in Period: Due to the complex nature of Kicker CompRT speakers, they require a break-in period in order to produce optimum low-bass response. The suspension system is very stiff out-of-the-box. Approximately two weeks of daily playing will allow the suspension to break-in and reach its optimum equilibrium. Once broken-in, the subwoofer will exhibit stronger bass performance, smoother response, and greater low-bass extension.

Q
Can this fit behind the rear seat of a 2023 tacoma double cab?
jaysse1x  Jan 19, 2024
1 answer
A
Greetings Jaysse. Thank you for your question. From what I can see behind the seat the only thing that could fit other than a custom fit box would be a compact powered sub. JL Audio makes a custom fit enclosure with sub. At the moment, thats your best option. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_13694654/JL-Audio-Stealthbox.html?id=detailed_info

Q
Will this fit under the rear seat of a 2023 Chevy Colorado pickup after relocating the jack?
greg  Sep 20, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Greg. Thank you for your question. Unfortunately we do not measure under vehicle seating. The box dimensions are 25.625"W x 5.5"H x 13.125"D. I would have to say measure under your seats, and if it looks like it can fit, go with it.

Will this fit under the rear seat of a 2023 Chevy Colorado pickup after relocating the jack?
greg  Sep 20, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Greg. Thank you for your question, but one thing we do not do is measure under vehicle seating. All I can give you is the dimensions of the box, 25.625"W x 5.5"H x 13.125"D and ask you to measure yourself.

Q
Do I need to buy an amp for this or will it work on its own? Only asking because I've had some that did and some that didn't.
grubb  Sep 11, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Philip, and thank you for your question. This Kicker subwoofer/enclosure is not a powered subwoofer. You will need a mono amplifier that pura out between 200-400 watts at 2 ohms.

Q
Would this fit under the back seat in a 2000 GMC 3rd door?
david  Aug 14, 2023
1 answer
A
Based on our measurements, it seems unlikely that it will fit. However, you may check using the measurements we have available for this enclosure 25.625"W x 5.5"H x 13.125"D.

Q
Will this fit a 2008 f150. Super crew ?
andrew  Aug 04, 2023
1 answer
A
We do not have measurements under the seats for your truck. We recommend checking the available open space in your truck using the measurements we have available for the sub enclosure (25.625"W x 5.5"H x 13.125"D).

Q
is the subwoofer dual voice coil? can it be wired to 1 ohm?
manny  Jul 31, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Manny, and thank you for your question. It is a dual 4 ohm Comp RT shallow, wired to 2 ohms. You would not be able to rewire it to 1ohm.

Q
Will this fit in 2004 Ford F250 crew cab ?
michael  Jul 14, 2023
1 answer
A
We recommend checking the available space under the seats to see if the necessary space (25.625"W x 5.5"H x 13.125"D) is available. Our measurements suggest that there will not be enough space, but it is worth measuring nevertheless.

Q
Will the Kicker 48TRTP102 fit in the trunk of a 1989 Fox body Mustang Convertible?
doubletrouble  Jun 20, 2023
1 answer
A
We do not qualify universal subwoofers like the Kicker 48TRTP102 for specific vehicle fit, John. We sometimes have some rough measurements for trunk space but for your Fox Body we sadly have no information. What I would recommend is taking some accurate measurements of your available space and comparing to the listed specifications on the Kicker that I have listed below for you. 25.625" Wide 5.5" High 13.125" Deep Any items that simply do not fit after due diligence in measuring can be returned for a refund within the first 60-days. That being said, these Kicker down firing subwoofer boxes are stellar choices for big bass in a tight space!

Q
Will this pair up good with alpine mrv 250 amp for a stock head unit 2019 crv exl?
chaowzy  Apr 02, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings John, and thank you for your question. The Kicker 48TRTP102 is rated for 200-400 watts RSM, and the MRV 250 will be at least 250 watts, so you are in the subs power range.
hogan  Apr 02, 2023 (Staff)
Q
Can i put subwoofer side upward?
hyun  Jan 24, 2023
1 answer
A
I suppose you could if you wanted to, Hyun. The Kicker 48TRTP102 is designed to be a downward-firing sub, but it would sound good in the upward position as well since bass moves out in every direction. You do not get to take advantage of any additional protection for the speakers from cargo or debris in an upward orientation, so that is something you will need to carefully consider.

Q
Would this fit behind the seat of a 2012 GMC Sierra crew cab truck?
kristen  Nov 14, 2022
1 answer
A
Unfortunately, we do not have the measurements for that particular area in the 2012 GMC Sierra crew cab. The measurements for this enclosure are 25.625"W x 5.5"H x 13.125"D.

Q
Can I place this behind the seat of my 1996 single cab Sierra and would I face it toward cab or toward bed?
alexander  Oct 21, 2022
1 answer
A
Some of those pickups have an adjustable seat. It is possible to position the seat so that there is enough room behind it for this box. The box can face either direction. The things to keep in mind are protrusions that might press into one of the drivers in this sub box. If there are any, make sure the subwoofers are not facing them.

Q
Can I add a kicker grill without any clearance issues?
jefferson  Oct 17, 2022
1 answer
A
No. This will not accommodate grilles. The downfiring design of this box makes it unlikely that grilles should be necessary.

Q
I have a 2017 Honda CR-v. Will this mount in the back?
jerry  Aug 19, 2022
1 answer
A
We don't provide accurate fit for every subwoofer enclosure on our site, Jerry. What we CAN provide though is very accurate measurements. The outside dimensions on this sweet Kicker 48TRTP102 Sealed downward firing sub are 25.625" wide x 5.5" high x 13.125" deep. These usually fit well in most rear cargo areas and JR here used a similar one in his install in a Subaru Crosstrek, it sounded amazing! Rough foot print on the cargo area of the CRV Touring in 2017 we show as about 41" x 34", so this should be a good fit!

would the box fit behind my bench seat of a 1991 Toyota pickup base model?
peyton  Jul 16, 2022

A
WHile we do measure behind and under the seat in a lot of trucks, your truck is one I don't have that info on. I'm sorry. I'm not able to determine if it will fit without those measurements.

Q
Is there two speakers in this setup like it show on the picture?
cohlh  Jun 06, 2022
1 answer
A
Greetings, and thank you for your question. There are two speakers in the Kicker enclosure, however only one is powered by the amp. The second is called a passive radiator. It also moves air but uses the air pressure in the box, not the amplifier.

will this fit under the back seat of 2014 F-150 SuperCrew?
julian  Mar 18, 2022

This will not fit under the back seat of my F-350 crew cab without anything else under the seat. Sits 7" tall and needs a fairly flat surface to lay on.

Is this meant to fit under the passenger front seat? Will it do better in the back?
reese  Dec 04, 2021

A
You can really install this sub where you prefer or where it will fit the best in your vehicle. It likely will not fit under a passenger seat. The dimensions of this sub is 25.625"W x 5.5"H x 13.125"D.
allison  Dec 07, 2021 (Staff)

Better off in the back. Will not fit under the passenger seat

Which amp (under 250$) would work best?
lucas  Dec 04, 2021

A
I bought the Kicker amp which has the same wattage, 800W max 400W rms. I think it was around $250. Haven't had a chance to install it because I just got the car yesterday

Q
Which cheap amp will work best for this (under 250$)?
lucas  Dec 04, 2021
1 answer
A
Thanks for your question. For information on selecting the best amp for your subs I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences between the amp models and help you make the best choice for your system.

Would this work with the Kenwood Excelon XR601-1 mono amp?
gary  Nov 29, 2021
2 answers
A
It should as long as the wats are compatible. Either way this sub is great!!! Best sub I could have gone with for my spacing.
gilberto  Nov 29, 2021
A
You will be fine as long as you set your amplifier gains properly to prevent any clipping. You can also adjust the gain on the amplifier with a voltmeter using the formula = square root of power X resistance. Since you want to use 400 watts, use 400x2 = 800, square root of 800 = 28.2 VAC.
kelly  Nov 29, 2021
Q
Would it still sound normal if I placed this behind my rear seats in a truck rather than facing down underneath the seats?
cael samuel  Oct 25, 2021
1 answer
A
It will still sound like it should. The potential issue is that it may not be stable when positioned like that so it moves forward/backwards when the vehicle is accelerating and slowing down. Just make sure you can secure it in place!
