About the Crux SWRFD-60L Wiring Interface

Bob Bihlmayer

Keep your factory options

Crux's SWRFD-60L interface ensures that you can keep the factory steering wheel controls in select Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury models when installing a compatible aftermarket radio. Connect this interface to the wires on your new stereo's wiring harness, and you've covered the power, ground, and factory speaker connections for your new stereo. The interface retains the auxiliary input in your vehicle if you're installing a radio with a rear aux input. It'll also retain your Ford-installed subwoofer.

You'll only be able to retain your steering wheel audio controls with a compatible car stereo made by Alpine, Boss, Blaupunkt, Clarion, Dual, Jensen, JVC, Kenwood, Pioneer, Sony or Soundstream. No other brands are currently compatible.

Retains Factory Aux Input: The CRUX SWRFD-60L can retain your vehicle's factory Aux input through the stereo RCA connectors within the wiring harness. Your aftermarket head unit must have a rear-panel Aux input (male mini to female stereo RCA adapter may be required, sold separately).

Retained Factory Sub: The CRUX SWRFD-60L will retain your vehicle's factory amplifier and sub through the mono-RCA connector and remote turn-on lead within the wiring harness. Your aftermarket stereo must be equipped with a subwoofer pre-out and remote turn-on lead.

Steering Wheel Control Retention: The CRUX SWRFD-60L comes pre-programmed to retain the factory steering wheel controls in your vehicle. The included steering wheel harness consists of a right-angle 3.5mm connector and blue/yellow wire (you'll only use the connection type your aftermarket radio is equipped with). There is also steering wheel control (SWC) adapter for aftermarket radios with a 3-wire steering wheel control input. The SWRFD-60L will work with any of the listed aftermarket radio brands that feature a steering wheel control input using the included harness, appropriate connector, and dip-switch settings (see owner's manual for appropriate settings).

  • 3.5mm Connector: Alpine, Clarion, Dual/Axxera, Jensen, Pioneer, and Sony
  • Blue/Yellow Wire: Kenwood and JVC
  • 3-Wire Adapter: Other aftermarket radios (like Boss) with SWC Key 1, SWC Key 2, and SWC Ground wires

Q
How simple is this to install with one of the radios on Crutchfield for a 2007 Ford Crown Victoria? It looks kind of hard.

Q
I am purchasing a 2005 Expedition King Ranch with rear entertainment. Will this keep the rear entertainment or do I need a desperate adapter for that?

I have the 2004 F150 Lariat with rear entertainment. I could not get it to work with the radio harness. I don't think there is anything out there that will allow the rear entertainment to hook up to the radio. I don't use it but I'm going to mess with the wiring to get the TV to work on the AUX myself. On a good note the steering wheel controls work perfectly!

Can't answer the question as I only had front.

Q
My 2004 F150 factory 6 disc radio only has one plug in the back. This says it fits my truck, but it has extra plugs. I have a JVC KW AVX840 that came out of my other Ford vehicle, and that harness had three plugs. Help?

A
You will want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility with your factory system. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and see if this will integrate. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you.

Q
For customers that fixed the sub woofer popping, how do you do it? It looks like the SWRFD-60L has a resistor to bring the voltage down from 12v to 5v but after first installation, the sub still pooped. I even crimped in Axxess AFDI-5V between the radio and Crux harness and still get the sub pop. The Metra 70-5521 harness has two blue/white remote wires that get spliced to the radio's remote wire, while the SWRFD-60L only has one.

Q
2006 Expedition Eddie Bauer, would this work to retain the steering wheel controls?
robert  Jun 11, 2016

Q
Will this clip in to what is already in my vehicle, or do I need to crimp every wire?
caleb  Jan 22, 2016

A
You have to crimp all the colored wires to your head units same colored wires then it will plug into your vehicle.
