Features

Powered Subwoofer: Adding a powered subwoofer to your speaker system extends the bass response produced by your existing loudspeakers and improves their midrange clarity. In a home theater application, the subwoofer takes care of reproducing signals from the low frequency effects channel. In a stereo system, the subwoofer helps reduce the low-frequency demands on the main speakers.

  • 8" Paper Cone Woofer: The Kanto Sub8 powered subwoofer houses a front-firing 8" paper cone woofer that offers powerful bass extensions.
  • 100 Watt Class D Amplifier: The 8" paper cone woofer is powered by a built-in Class D amplifier rated at 125 watts (RMS) / 250 watts (Peak) for dynamic, controlled bass response.

Subwoofer Controls: The Kanto Sub8 provides Volume, Low Pass Crossover, and Phase controls to fine-tune the powered subwoofer to your setup application. All of the controls are found on the rear-panel of the powered sub.

  • Volume: The rotary volume control adjusts the volume level of the powered subwoofer in relation to to the other speakers in your system.
  • Low Pass Crossover: The Low Pass Crossover is used to set the upper limit of the frequencies that Sub8 will reproduce. The Low Pass Crossover can be adjusted between 40Hz and 120Hz.
  • Phase Switch: The Phase Switch is normally set to 0°. If the Sub8 is positioned significantly farther from the main speakers or if the powered subwoofer is used in a stereo setup where the amplifier driving the main speakers inverts the phase signal, the 180° setting may be desirable. Listen with the switch in both positions and select the setting that gives the fullest sound. If in doubt, or if there is little difference, leave the switch set to 0°

Stereo RCA Input: The Sub8 powered sub is outfitted with left and right RCA Line Level inputs. These inputs are for use with stereo receivers and integrated amplifiers featuring stereo preamp outputs or AV receivers and processors featuring an LFE subwoofer output. If your receiver, integrated amp, or processor only has a single subwoofer line output or LFE output, either the left or right input jack of the powered sub can be used.

Placement Options: To some degree, positioning the powered subwoofer is less critical because it produces only non-directional low-frequency sounds. However, best results are obtained if the powered sub is placed either between the left and right speakers or in the vicinity of either the left channel or right channel speaker. As with all speakers, moving the Sub8 very close to room boundaries will enhance the bass frequencies but will tend to muddy the sound. Room characteristics and positioning have a profound effect on the performance of the subwoofer, so time and effort devoted to achieving the optimum operating position will be rewarded.

Auto Power On/Off: The Kanto Sub8 powered subwoofer has a 3-way power switch on the rear-panel. You can select Auto, which turns the unit on automatically when an input signal is received and off after the signal stops; On, which keeps the unit on; or Standby, which turns the unit off.

Customer Q&A

Q
Using with Kanto YU6. What crossover frequency should I use on this sub?
mark  Dec 21, 2021
2 answers
A
I use 90Hz as I like a bit more bass. For the most "accurate" sounding music, 80 Hz is the most commonly cited frequency
alex  Dec 22, 2021

I am sorry to say, that I am not using this sub, with YU6's .. I have instead, paired it with Energy Take 5's .. To help fill in the bottom registers. Paying special attention, to the frequency response, of the Sub8 .. Suffice to say, that the overall effect, far exceeded my expectations .. Lending an immersive quality, to movies, without sacrificing any musicality .. For those more relaxed times, when only accuracy will do .. Hoping this will help narrow the search, for others who with similar needs !!!

Q
I'm looking at Kanto YU6 and Sub8. Do I need a cable to go between those two?
joel  Feb 24, 2021

A
yes you will need a cable to connect the powered speakers to the sub8. the good news is that the kanto remote can control the volume of the sub8 making your biggest decision what audio source to feed the system.
steve  Feb 25, 2021
A
If you buy both it should come with everything you need. There is an aux in for the SUB8
alex  Feb 25, 2021
A
The Kanto Sub8 comes with a mono RCA cord that connects directly to the YU6 speakers. If you open up the SUB8 product page there is a link towards the bottom titled "what comes in the box" that list all the included accessories. I have this exact set up connected to a turntable. It's killer.
chris  Feb 25, 2021
A
The SUB8 comes with an RCA cable to connect it.
bryan  Feb 25, 2021
A
The sub comes with the wire included.
albert  Feb 25, 2021
A
Yes you will. In general Wired is preferred, sometimes you can hear lag with BT connections.
quinn mann  Feb 25, 2021
Q
Under "About the Kanto SUB8" at "Product highlights" it says "auto on/off." Does this mean the subwoofer will automatically turn on and off when I turn my Kanto YU 2 speakers on and off?
john  Jun 02, 2020
2 answers
A
Yes, never have to touch the sub if you don't want to once it is on. I sometimes adjust the level for action movies on Saturday nights but that's about it. When you stop the input to the speaker, they will auto shut off and the sub goes to sleep. Very happy with my purchase, solid build quality, and solid room filling sound for music and movies. Get the bigger sub.
james  Jun 03, 2020
A
It means that it will turn on when you start playing music and the sub receives a signal, and then turn off after a certain time without receiving a signal.
alex  Jun 02, 2020
Q
How long is cable that comes included with the Kanto sub8 package which connects the sub to the Kanto yu2's ? Is it 10' long, shorter, longer?
james  May 27, 2021
2 answers
A
I believe it is 9.8 feet long.
mark  May 27, 2021
A
It's about eight feet long. It's just a simple RCA jack so you could probably get longer or shorter easy enough.
geza  May 27, 2021
Q
Does this unit have a port for an LFE cable to connect to a receiver?
salvador  Nov 28, 2020

A
Mine only has two RCA jacks.
geza  Dec 07, 2020
A
It has left and right RCA line level in ports only
