Back up better

Alpine's HCE-C114 backup camera is an excellent add-on when you're buying a new touchscreen car stereo. With low light capability and a wide viewing angle, you'll have a perfect picture of what's behind your vehicle, day or night.

This tiny camera measures less than one square inch, so it'll fit just about anywhere. The package includes a 21-foot cable with composite video RCA plugs that allows the camera to connect to any in-dash receiver or front-mount screen with a composite video input.

Frame it

Looking for another mounting option? The HCE-C114 is compatible with Alpine's KTX-C10LP license plate mounting kit (not included).

Installing this camera yourself? Here's what you should know.

What does it do? Unless otherwise noted, a backup camera is only intended for use backing up your vehicle. (If you require a front-view or constant rear-view camera, check for that capability.)

What tools and supplies will I need? A panel tool, a wire cutter/stripper, a soldering iron, and a rosin-core solder with heat shrink tubing are recommended, along with whatever tools are needed to remove the radio from the dash.

How much wiring is required? Wiring instructions vary from camera to camera. Some cameras have power wiring that can only be connected near the radio. Others let you power the camera at compatible reverse lights. In all cases, the camera must be wired for power and ground, the camera's video output must be connected to the radio/monitor, and the radio/monitor must be connected to a reverse trigger in your vehicle. Some radio replacement interfaces supply a reverse trigger wire for the radio -- using that wire to power your camera will damage the interface.

Will the included video cable be long enough? You'll need to route the camera's video cable from its mounting location outside your vehicle into your vehicle's cabin and all the way to the screen in the dash. This often requires drilling a small hole in your vehicle or filing some metal and or plastic. You'll also need to estimate the length of cable needed to run from the camera to the dash, which will not be a straight shot. Each camera's cable length is listed.

Features

Universal Rearview Camera: Add the Alpine HCE-C114 universal rearview camera to your vehicle's aftermarket in-dash receiver with monitor for added safety when backing in and out of a parking space. The rearview camera assists you, the driver, in checking behind your vehicle by sending images to your in-dash receiver's monitor, showing conditions behind the car.

Note: This rearview camera is meant as a back-up aid only; never solely rely on the rearview camera when backing-up. In addition to using the rearview camera, always look behind you to make sure everything is clear when backing up your vehicle.

1/4" CMOS Image Sensor: The HCE-C114 is equipped with a 1/4" CMOS image sensor with an effective resolution of 640 x 480 (307,000 total pixels). The image sensor offers automatic metering and automatic white balance adjustment for high-quality rearview images. The image sensor has an illumination range of 1.0 to 100,000 lux.

Wide-Angle Lens: The rearview camera's wide-angle lens has a focal length of f=1.28mm and brightness of f=24, with a 132° (h) x 105° (v) field of view. Because this is a wide-angle lens, there is a difference in distance perspective between what is normally seen behind the vehicle and what appears on the screen of your in-dash receiver.

Weatherproof Housing: The Alpine HCE-C114 employs a weatherproof (IP67) housing to protect the backup camera from the outdoor elements.

Composite Video Output: The included 23' composite video cable allows you to connect the Alpine HCE-C114 universal rearview camera to any aftermarket receiver with a composite video camera input and built-in screen. You can also swap out the 23' composite video cable for a shorter or longer composite video cable.

Power & Ground Harness: The Alpine HCE-C114 features an attached 5' power & ground harness. The power wire (red) of the harness must be connected to the positive side of your vehicle's rear lamp, while the ground wire (black) needs to be connected to your vehicle's metal chassis.

Included Mounting Bracket: The included mounting bracket allows you can be install the backup camera on the rear bumper or by the license plate of your SUV, truck, van, or car. The mounting bracket attaches to the camera with two included screws. The mounting bracket also has an adhesive backing, along with four included screws to secure the camera to your vehicle. Once mounted, you can adjust and tilt the mounting bracket up or down for the best camera angle and view.

Optional License Plate Mount Kit: The HCE-C114 rearview camera is compatible with Alpine's KTX-C10LP rearview camera license plate mounting kit (500KTXC10L, sold separately).

Can the view be â??un-mirroredâ?? to be used as a front facing cam?
nones  Feb 12, 2018

No. Your monitor would have to offer it's own reverse/mirror image option in order to use this as a front facing camera.
