Great Product, great service
Dan from SALISBURY, MD on 7/14/2025
2009 Toyota Tacoma
Bought this bundled with the 450 amp to replace the aging factory unit in a 2009 Tacoma quad cab. Also got the power bass and kicker speakers to round out the package. Got the recommended harnesses, Maestro unit, etc. It took the better part of a weekend to install. This thing sounds great! CarPlay works as it should, as do the steering wheel controls. Clean install with the Metra dash kit. It looks like a factory unit. As an electrical control tech (with aging eyes), I will say the wiring is not for the faint of heart. It ended up taking two calls to tech support to get everything working, due to two different issues. Both calls were answered quickly by knowledgeable and helpful reps who made sure I was on the right track. The customer support from Crutchfield is outstanding.
Pros: Sounds great, works great, looks great
Cons: lots of wires, complex installation

Great unit with exceptions
Russ from San Jose on 6/29/2025
The Alpine iLX-W670 is a nice head unit. The sound is excellent and is easy to set up. It was way too easy to install with the Crutchfield harness purchased separately (Good investment in time and money) Crutchfield support was extremely helpful with install questions. The unit can be shut off but comes back on when you put the vehicle in reverse. The downside is this unit apparently does not like too much heat as I found out as the weather got hot. In my configuration the head unit is near the top of the dash. When it gets too hot the touch screen does not operate correctly. The other issue is glare because the screen doesn't get bright enough. My configuration cant be that one off but glare in not just this unit but in a lot of units seems to be an issue. This could easily be resolved with a brighter screen and tactile buttons for volume and mute. Its a little frustrating its past the return time so this unit and I will learn to coexist somehow.
Pros: Sound Easy to set up Crutchfield support
Cons: Glare in some instances Touchscreen does not like too much heat Takes getting used to Unit is always on

A great unit at a great price
Robert from Belvidere, TN on 6/25/2025
1996 GMC Suburban
This unit is great all around. It has a user friendly interface and clean sound. It has all the features one needs. I paired it with a boyo reverse camera and infinity speakers. One of the downsides is that it is a wired connection for Apple CarPlay. For the price, though, you can't beat it. Also, you have to use the auxiliary input for video unless you are one of the few people on the planet who still stores music and video files on a flash drive or USB device. I found that I have to power my factory amp with the remote amp wire and not the power antennae wire. I think this is because the power antennae is hot only with the radio. I also had an issue with my factory speakers in the rear. The head unit would display a amp overload message. After speaking with a Crutchfield tech support person, I ran it down to a headliner speaker. The speaker isn't powered by the amp, but it is on a circuit with the rear door speakers which are on the amp. In a nutshell this is a great unit for the price and has features and standard equipment you might expect in the $500+ range, I would recommend it to anyone wanting to upgrade an older system.
Pros: expandible great sound user friendly
Cons: Wired connection for CarPlay Auxiliary input necessary for some functions

I would NOT recommend getting this radio, the back up camera is VERY glitching, and not aligned at all I now have to use my mirrors more when I back up. The radio it's self is very glitchy sometimes when I'm driving it just turns off out of no where. When I first got it installed the camera or steering wheel controls did not work so they had to send me a replacement. When the replacement came the camera came in glitchy, but the steering control now works. Now I have a message on my screen saying caution USB overcurrent.

Garbage
MT from USA on 6/5/2025
2009 Ford F-250 Super Duty
Total garbage. Speaking to someone in the business, I come to find out that the iLX-W670 isn't even made by Alpine. It is a clone licensed under Alpine's brand name. I originally bought it a couple months ago because of the brand name and their reputation. Since then, I have had nothing but problems with it. While I can connect my iPhone to it and play music through, I can't receive my messages half the time, and when I do, I can almost never respond to them due to who knows what glitch in the radio. Then, if I make or receive a phone call and decide I want to talk longer than 5 minutes, the head deck overheats and shuts down. I can't turn it back on until I turn the truck off. Based on this experience, I will never buy another Alpine piece of junk again. Was my first and last.
Pros: The dimmer gets nice and dim
Cons: I can't send messages with Carplay and it overheats if I make phone calls.

Installed in a 2005 Silverado with Bose. Stereo itself is snappy, minimal delay when selecting CarPlay and rear view camera. Feels faster than my wife's 2022 Subaru Forester that came with CarPlay from the factory. Had no issues with the recommended CRUX interface (went with the higher end interface because of reviews). Steering wheel controls were fully retained. Follow the provided instructions from Crutchfield because the CRUX needed to be setup for "Pioneer" head units to communicate properly with this Alpine. Working great so far.

Pull the trigger; replace that old radio
Gerald from Granada Hills, CA on 5/17/2025
2006 GMC Envoy
What a great replacement radio! Been putting off replacing the OEM radio in my GMC Envoy. Should have pulled the trigger long ago. Crutchfield provided everything I needed including the mounting kit, CRUX interface and a Ready Harness. The Master Sheet guided me through removing the dash trim, pulling the old radio and prepping the wiring for the new unit. As noted in the instructions, once the new Alpine unit was plugged in, I powered it up to ensure everything worked. Not really surprised to see the screen light up followed by the SUV's speakers playing a favorite Pandora station and my steering wheel controls worked perfectly! I finished the install, replaced the dash trim and dialed in the Alpine's features for way better sound than I had been listening to for years. My thanks to both Crutchfield and Alpine for making my old ride feel new again!
Pros: -Perfect fit with great looking screen -Touch screen AND/OR steering wheel controls -Nice EQ/sound stage choices

Joel from DFW, TX on 5/12/2025
2000 Jeep Cherokee
I purchased this unit to install in a 2000 Jeep Cherokee Classic. The main reason was to upgrade to a newer multimedia player with Bluetooth, Android Auto controls and to also add a backup camera. This unit did not disappoint! The install kit made installation very easy. The Alpine harnesses were soldered to the Metra adapter then connected to the OEM radio harness. There was a lot of wiring but you can easily tuck them away nicely behind the dash behind the radio. The microphone looked kind of bulky but I was able to install it at the top of the driver's side pillar. Phone calls can be hear loud and clear. Different volume controls for calls, radio, ring, navigation can be adjusted in the settings. A third party backup camera was also installed and has been working great! I tested the AUX input and was able to view the camera through that input as well, so I plan on buying a second camera to use for the front. At this price point the iLX-W670 is hard to beat. It certainly gave a 25 year old car new life! The Metra dash kit matches the dash perfectly!
Pros: Android Auto ClearVideo/ LCD screen EQ and sound enhancements Compact unit AUX input Backup Camera Input Hands Free Phone Custom wallpaper backgrounds
Cons: No wireless Android Auto Only one USB input Non-adjustable angle, possible glare during certain times

Alpine rocks the garage
Bryan from Deer Island, OR on 5/4/2025
Great sound quality as this replaced an older Kenwood unit that was starting to have issues. Easy to set up and get dialed in .. Alpine never disappoints. Side note ... This did not go into my car .. It was for a sound board I built for the garage consisting of the Alpine ILX-W670, Alpine 3-way comps and some old school Phoenix Gold gear (Basscube. EQ-215ix. DD5, Elite5 channel amp & and an Elite 12d to cover the lows) Sounds perfect ... ??
Pros: Sound, ease of use and value ...
Cons: Only con was setting it up as I had to install a spst switch since I didn't have a 12v triggered source ... other than that it's rock solid

Great performance, nagging little install items
Craig from Grand Rapids, MI on 5/3/2025
2000 Chevrolet Silverado 2500/3500
To start with the performance and appearance of this unit are really good! I experienced several frustrating points with install and set up however. First website was less than clear about mounting kit, suggesting new dashboard trim, antenna adapter, & tools. I didn't order as I had no need for dash trim or antenna adapter but that is ONLY way you get any mounting hardware, I expected to get the usual plastic adapter plates to install to head unit that slide into factory opening- but no, one must purchase entire dash kit to get 2 plastic mounting plates :-(. Next up is the unit itself, while i understand the E-brake hook up theory why is so much of the unit dependent on it? My truck is older, has no working parking brake module and why are so many features dependent on this? First, who would drive while watching videos? Second why not just make the unit without video playback? Also had no clock on unit without hooking up GPS antenna- don't need to use it or mount it, just need to plug it in to make your clock work-ridiculous! By the way install instructions don't tell you that. The performance is pure Alpine and what you should expect from the brand, I'm happy with that no doubts but its the stupid little things that frustrate.
Pros: Sound, touch screen, options
Cons: Install requirements/lack of flexibility for those not wanting to use everything or having older vehicle.

Good... with issues
Matt from SANDY, UT on 4/25/2025
2011 Toyota Camry
I have been using this head unit for 9 months now. If I were to do it over I would not be purchasing this again. The install was pretty straightforward. The sound is better than the factory head unit. I love having CarPlay. But I could never get the steering wheel controls to work (tried twice) and there are enough other intermittent issues that bug the crap out of me. I probably should have returned it when I couldn't get the steering wheel controls to work, but thought I could put up with that. Then other issues started randomly happening (see cons).
Pros: Screen is great. Sounds better than the factory head unit. Carplay works great (most of the time).
Cons: Steering wheel controls don't work. I've tried reconnecting the wires twice. It worked briefly when I held the head unit at a certain angle while installing. Bluetooth keeps "unpairing" and I get a message to pair it every time I start the car until I pair it again. Unit will just "crash" occasionally. Screen goes black. Have to restart the car to get the screen back on. CarPlay randomly switches from car audio to just my phone. It doesn't do it very often. Super annoying though.

Defective Unit - Repeat Offense
Yuko from WEST LAFAYETTE, IN on 4/17/2025
2012 Toyota Corolla
The predecessor, the Alpine iLX-W650, was a very solid unit, and it still works perfectly fine in a different vehicle. I wanted to add it to another vehicle, but I saw this unit came out, so I purchased it in the hopes that it would be either the same or an improvement. To my disappointment, it was neither, and it has multiple strange design decisions and defects. The first thing is how many of the connections are going away from how industry standard car inputs are being handled. The subwoofer input being right/left channel doesn't make sense since its typically a mono system, which means I had to buy an adapter to get it to connect. Same thing with the microphone, most microphones are 3.5mm, but this one opted to use the 2.5mm which means I am forced to use either an adapter or the included microphone which was very quiet in use. This unit also forces you to hook up some method of bypassing the brake signal to use the settings or the keyboard if your car doesn't have the signal for it, whereas the iLX-W650 unit didn't have this issue if you left it unplugged. The screen also somehow is running at a slower framerate than the old unit, so the animations during swiping are very choppy. The issues that caused me to return the unit was the fact that it sometimes froze up randomly causing repeated reboots until the car was restarted. The last was the backup camera didn't work, where the backup camera worked with the last head unit I had. I don't recommend this unit.

Downgrade from the iLX-650
Ron from QUEEN CREEK, AZ on 4/11/2025
2004 Honda Element
I've had an iLX-W650 installed in another car for almost 5 years and although the later reviews on it aren't stellar, I've had no issues with it. Based on that experience I chose this expecting an evolution, but it feels like it's just more of a cheapening of components to keep it at the same price point. The major flaw by direct comparison is the screen. The resolution is poor and it's so dim (at maximum brightness), that in a sunny environment (I live in AZ, so it's bright to a fault), the screen is impossible to see with sunglasses on. The 650 is a night and day difference and has never appeared not bright enough...which is why I chose to ignore the many reviews complaining about the screen brightness. I have a 10 year old Pioneer (1st gen resistive screen CarPlay deck) in another car that's easily twice as bright as this, so the panel used here is definitely sub-par. The settings control for day brightness (between 0 and 32) barely makes any noticeable change from one extreme to another, whereas the night scale works as you'd expect. On the plus side, For an entry-level CarPlay unit, everything else seems fine. CarPlay connects quickly and the OS doesn't seem to have any noticeable lag (a common complaint with 'B brands'). The I/O is decent, User Interface is pretty straightforward, and although we all would prefer a volume knob, the controls are responsive and work well enough. I'm actually bummed that I'm going to need to choose something else over the screen issue.
Pros: Responsive CarPlay interface, decent features for the price point.
Cons: Lo-res, dim screen that is useless in bright daylight.

I was looking for a simple upgrade to my factory stereo. the sound quality isn't what I expected for this price point but it's ok. not enough bass or customization in sound quality or equalizer. also there's no option for turning loudness on or off.
Pros: the dedicated volume buttons
Cons: bass, sound quality, display colors

Excellent Alpine quality, minor appearance gripe.
Bradley from Austin, TX on 4/6/2025
2019 Subaru WRX
Great Alpine quality and functionality. The interface and sound are fantastic and meet the Alpine standard for sure. My only complaint is with the face plate or trim. It's almost like there should be an additional trim ring or something. The chassis is the standard double-DIN, but the typical reduction that all double-DIN head units have is more dramatic on this unit and it leaves a bigger gap in the typical dash opening. It's not horrible, just a little irritating.
Pros: Awesome sound and functionality. All the connectivity options you want. Internal amp is decent, which you can use at the same time as the low level outputs which is nice.
Cons: The outer dimensions of the face plate or screen seems slightly smaller than a typical double DIN head unit. This leaves a little bit more gap around the screen with installation kits.

I REALLY want to like this, but it has not lived up to my expectations. The brightness is not as vibrant as a Kenwood or even Boss. The bluetooth if VERY temperamental. But, the features in this are outstanding. If the other items were fixed, this would be a solid 5 for me.

Problems diminish functionality 1
Allan from Little Elm, TX on 3/31/2025
Apparently there's a known bug that isn't allowing text to speech to work. Had I known this I would've purchased something different. Secondly we cannot get the rear view camera to work. I spent considerable time with the techs from Crutchfield and while they were extremely helpful we could not resolve the issue. They're sending me a replacement unit in hopes this resolves the issue but I'm not confident and it's a lot of work removing the dash trim to get to the radio. Right now I'm on the fence about it. Do I keep it and hope the replacement fixes the camera issue and that Alpine can resolve the text to speech issues or do I return it and find something else. I'm giving two stars because the techs were very helpful but the unit is very disappointing. If it wasn't for the techs I'd give zero stars.
Pros: Techs are great
Cons: Unit doesn't function as advertised.

Awesome product and people
Tina from Collinsville, TX on 3/28/2025
This is an awesome radio as Alpine's usually are. The down is that it only has one camera option instead of two like the W650. The ready harness was awesome as well. The module needed to be programed to a Pioneer stereo instead of an Alpine to make the steering wheel controls work. The tech guy (JT) was very helpful with that issue. Crutchfield's people from sales to price to tech's are by far the best. Very satisfied with everything.
Pros: The phone volume is a lot louder.
Cons: Only has one camera option

Great sound. Hooked it up to my existing factory speakers in a 2006 Tacoma. No issues with the hook up whatsoever. Alpine out performed the name brand Stereo that was supplied with the vehicle.
Pros: Came with a GPS antenna that was a bonus buy. I wasn't even aware that this receiver had this option until the install.
Cons: Reverse trigger wire was hard to find. I ended up online watching videos on the receiver and the vehicles wiring.

This is the second Alpine iLX-W670 unit I purchased for two different cars. Make sure you reset your unit after installation , read your manual on how to perform this function. I had some issues with the Bluetooth connection between my iPhone . I chose NOT use their USB connection at the rear of this unit. It's a great unit when coupled with Alpine amplifiers. Good view when opting to install the back up camera.
Pros: Shallow installation depth. Good amplifier controls.
Cons: Double check your order with the Crutchfield sales. My order had several installation components missing, very frustrating having to wait for those items to arrive. Read instructions carefully when using exterior amplifiers. Alpine amplifier instructions provided were incorrectly written when using REMOTE connection and power antenna wire use. Several calls to Crutchfield technical support were better than Alpine Customer Service .

Buy Literally ANY Other Headunit If You Want Working SWCs
Marcus from MESA, AZ on 3/14/2025
2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2500/3500
Headunit itself is a nice piece, however, it was a total PITA and ultimately a NO go on getting the SWCs to function correctly. 2006 Silverado. Paid for the prewired harness and still no luck. Ended up finding out that THIS specific headunit has given people tons of headache with SWC functionality. I even tried the SWI-ADAPT harness/module, installed it correctly with the SWC1 & 2 wires, STILL no luck. First AND LAST Alpine headunit. It's 2025 there's no reason for them to have reinvented the wheel with SWC interface. I'd literally rather run a Boss headunit over another iLX-W670 solely due to the headaches with no SWC functionality. Crutchfield gets a thumbs up here, but Alpine gets a thumbs down.

Love the radio. I've been wanting to upgrade the radio in my 2001 Chevy S10 ZR2 for a long time and I'm glad I finally did. I upgraded the door speakers years ago and was never happy with them, they sounded muddy with the stock radio, but this unit made them come alive. The radio fit right in, no problem with the help of the wire harness and mounting brackets that you suggested. I didn't need the antenna adapter or the face plate because I used a dash bezel off of a Chevy Blazer that had a double din radio. The Alpine unit was also short enough that I didn't have to cut out any of the interior dash bracket your instructions suggested. There is plenty of room in there...maybe if I had the add on amp it would be necessary. While doing this conversion, I wasn't sure what dash speakers I had. Turned out they were stock paper cones. I ended up getting some Kenwood KFC-4675C 4x6 speakers that sound great and fit right in. Sorry...I got them from Amazon because you guys said they wouldn't fit and I didn't want to hurt your feelings. Love you guys. Thanks!

I searched for a new head unit for months. I knew I wanted one with a 4 volt output for the door speakers. Installed this one in my 2015 Nissan Versa Note with no problems. I was sick of the outdated factory stereo. The price was same on another retailer which is where I buy most of everything due to convenience, but my neighbor recommended this website, and I was amazed to see the install hardware came with it for no extra cost and 2 day shipping. This stereo sounds GREAT! Just need to make a decision on what amp and subs I want.

Very happy. Once installed it was a little a wonky with the settings. Set the parking brake, release and set the brake again. This will allow you use the settings. It's 100% like factory. Meaning, you can't scroll through preset radio channels with steering wheel controls (not a big deal to me ). Had to call customer service for help and Sylvia was great. Also, the mic (when you are talking) is not great. I'm getting a mic cover to help reduce background noise. The sound quality of music is excellent. So much better than factory. The screen is great and clear with rear camera. Do I recommend ? Yes. Great upgrade at a reasonable price for my 2018 Canyon.
Pros: Cost, screen clarity, easy to use once you get a full understating. Great customer service

Fantastic! Crutchfield is very much still relevant in case you were wondering. The web site is amazing for research, selection, comparison, reviews and compatibility. They knew what additional components were needed, pre-wired for a fantastic value and saved me time and headaches. They even had excellent phone support to assist with some of my questions after install and troubleshooting the dip switches on the PAC interface. I'm so happy! The Alpine unit is great. Fantastic value for all the settings and features, really seamless screen interface function and control setup. Great sound. You really can't go wrong. Installed in my 2003 Avalanche. If I had a more expensive vehicle I might make considerations for a wireless android/carplay or maybe more fratures, but I really don't think there is a better value or quality than this radio at this price point.
Pros: Clean, quality sound, great control of sound, good interface, has all the features
Cons: Mic volume is weak. There is a setting deep in the pages where you can choose 3 mic levels, this helped some.

Install was ok if you are somewhat mechanical. Wired it all together per the PAC module paperwork. I didn't receive any paperwork from Crutchfield. After install the steering wheel controls did not work. After a short online chat, they told me about a wiring issue and DIP switch change to the Apline units. Again. No paperwork from Crutchfield in my box. I have yet to make the swap as I just installed 2 days ago. Radio seems legit. I can't wait to use it.
Pros: Options when buying the head unit with brackets and modules needed.
Cons: Been nicer with an already made harness and the correct paperwork.

Sounds way better than factory!! My only issues is the wired usb connection for apple carplay pulsates. So it's basically unusable as of right now. I may just need a new data cable that connects better. The biggest issue is the head unit does not bolt up to the head unit brackets very well, in the lancer evo x. I was able to get within 4mm of the dash kit. So you cant tell theres a gap but its also only held in by one screw on both sides.

It does come with a usb cord for CarPlay. Packaged very well. I'd recommend for sure. I'd also like to give Crutchfield a shoutout for being very helpful with my install. The Pac system was giving me a hard time but I contacted Crutchfield and they were going to send me a new Pac system no questions but wasn't needed.
Pros: Bringing newer features to older more basic vehicles. So far it works flawlessly. Mic for hands free phone calls works great from everyone that I speak to.
Cons: I don't have any cons, as of right now. The only thing that does get kind of annoying is when I go to settings, it's always going to Bluetooth settings. Not a big deal.

I have had the stereo for a little over 7 months. It was pretty good, nothing really special about it but it's a good stereo. However, lately I have been getting a warning of "amp overload" and the stereo stops playing. My whole system is powered by an external Alpine amplifier. So there is no strain at all on the head unit amplifier. I googled the problem and it seems to be pretty common with the stereo.

Excellent Product - Excellent associated support
David from SAINT PAUL, MN on 12/18/2024
2004 BMW X5
I am an audiophile and have some electronic skill, but haven't done a head unit for about 40 years. Yes, 40 years. I chose and installed this unit because I fondly remembered the glowing green buttons of the expensive Alpine head units from 40 years ago and they seemed to sound great 40 years ago too. I am confident the W670 head unit has very good sound quality - better than the OE head unit on the tuner. I was pleasantly surprised about this and very happy with the responsive touch screen and perfect integration with apple car play. But, equally important for me were the terrific documentation, brackets, wiring plug and trim piece from Crutchfield. The fit and materials were perfect and resulted in ZERO "engineering" needed during installation. I would totally purchase this unit again, and would totally purchase it from Crutchfield. // For sound quality comparison, a few years ago I paid a shop to install a Pioneer 80PRS head unit in another vehicle. The W670 has the same "better than OE" sound quality character. The noise floor is lower and dynamics slightly better too.
Pros: Better than OE BMW sound quality Very responsive touch screen Perfect integration with my iPhone Excellent brackets to fit in OE location - additional purchase Excellent supporting documentation for installation

Looks nice and sleek. It's low profile and fits great. The touch screen works very smoothly. For the clock to work, we did have to use the gps. For CarPlay, we did have to google to troubleshoot-you have to use an authentic apple cord. Oh, and enable Siri! Once we did that, it worked great and we ordered a 2nd radio for another vehicle!

Radio is great.
Larry from Marion Station, MD on 12/13/2024
Unit performs great, but had Crutchfield do the wiring harness which they did wrong. Wired a pink wire to a ground wire which could have caused damage to the radio or my truck. Alpine tech told my install guy on how it should correctly be wired.
Pros: Great price for unit. Good functionality.
Cons: Be careful on getting Crutchfield to wire it. I was lucky my install guy caught the mistake they had made.

Excellent radio upgrade for a middle-aged Jeep Wrangler. Love the radio and the ease of installation. The wiring diagram with the unit book was excellent and allows you to kind of suss out any of the other harnesses you may have purchased with the radio. Radio is easy to use and figure out. Well worth the money. And Crutchfield made it very easy with their install instructions and purchasing everything for your specific vehicle.
Pros: Ease of use. Install. Cost. Instructions from Crutchfield.
Cons: Nothing.

Install was very simple. Crutchfield made it so much easier. Thanks to their tech support I was able to problem solve some of my issues. The screen sounds amazing. The sound is crisp and clear and sounds better than OEM! The touchscreen is very responsive. CarPlay and the radio work flawlessly.
Pros: Carplay works great and the radio sounds good too. Changing the sound settings is quite simple. The radio sounds really good and looks good too. I love how I can change the key colors to match my interior lights. I love the responsiveness of the unit as well as the ability to change the background.
Cons: Although this unit is awesome there are some things I wish I had. The CarPlay is not wireless which sucks, I also can't change the splash/boot screen to whatever I want.

Excellent modernizing upgrade for older cars
B. from Kentucky Lake, TN on 11/24/2024
2007 Pontiac Vibe
I Installed this in an '07 Pontiac Vibe, fitment is so seamless it looks like it was always there from the factory. Opted for the "Ready Harness" option and it made install an absolute breeze, start to finish was maybe an hour with the longest parts being the trim removal and reinstallation. Routed the USB extension cable under the carpet and into the armrest console tray to keep a flash drive handy but hidden. To complete the factory look I jumped on Photoshop to create a custom background with the Pontiac Logo and red accents to compliment the car's factory dash light/gauge colors. Only downsides that cost a star on this review that I can speak to are the inputs being a little sluggish on USB mode; It takes about 45 seconds from Key-On to music starting with a loading screen in between, and hitting skip/seek for the next song has about a 2-3 second delay before it actually skips (Bluetooth mode has no such lag, however). Other drawback is although this unit supports custom backgrounds and key light colors, it doesn't support a custom splash screen. So instead of being able to put a more stock looking "Pontiac Vibe" splash screen on start, it's stuck with the basic "Alpine Audio" splash, but that is more of a nit-pick than an actual problem. Full subwoofer and speaker mapping support are awesome, and being able to use the factory Monsoon amp the car came with was very nice. Overall highly satisfied with this stereo!
Pros: Easy install, great customizing features for backgrounds and key colors, plug-and-play with factory amp and subwoofer support, easy to navigate screens.
Cons: USB mode is a big sluggish to boot up and could use a little better UI for USB folders, no start screen customizing options.

This unit does everything you want it to do and more!! Some of the video reviews say the screen is not as detailed but I didn't buy it for visual entertainment. I bought this for my 2012 Expedition and stick speakers and was I surprised at the sound. It takes about 7 seconds from start up to music which is faster than my JVC system. The added gps makes sure that I don't have to adjust the clock. The final thumbs up is the ability to "Match the Dash" as the system allows you to pick screen and key colors that make the stereo face look stock

Where do I connect the parking brake wire???
Manuel from BLOOMINGDALE, NJ on 11/18/2024
2007 Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class
Unit is not completely installed. But from a short time it was on, I find the 17-yr old JVC I am replacing better sounding than this. It is not completely installed because I can't figure out where to connect the Parking Brake wire. Support told me it is on the base of the handle. On the base of the handle is carpet. I looked as much as I could but didn't find a switch where I can connect to. My research tells me that most aftermarket radios have this as a safety feature. If that is true, then Crutchfield should have included in the installation instructions already at this time. It is not included now. If have to remove the center console to find it, then it is NOT an easy install anymore. I don't want to use those bypass modules because I'm afraid it will void my warranty. And I can't return the radio anymore because I cut some of the wires already. Crutchfield wanted me to pay for a wiring adapter which used to be free. I may have to go a shop to get it professionally installed. Or buy the bypass module, or sell this thing. Very disappointed. I am replacing the JVC because I want Android Auto. This unit has it, but I can't use it anyway until I connect the parking brake wire! I can't even use the Bluetooth! Sorry for the 1 star rating. That's because I have to factor in sound of radio, installation procedure, support, and basically overall experience. If I can, I will update this when I have the radio completely installed. I may have to play around with settings.
Pros: Small size.
Cons: No Android Auto, no Bluetooth, until you connect Parking brake wire. Make sure you know where to connect this before buying. Crutchfield support won't be able to help you. Look in the base of the e-brake handle and maybe you will find it. I didn't.

Don't buy if you don't know where parking brake switch is!
Manny from New Jersey on 11/17/2024
2001 Mazda Miata
Currently, radio is still not fully installed. For the little time it was on, I am not impressed. The old JVC it is replacing sounded better. My gripe is the installation. It is currently not fully installed because I am having issues finding where I am supposed to connect the "parking brake" cable. It is disappointing because the Crutchfield instructions does not include it. My research told me that most after market radios come with this now for safety reason. If that is the case, I think Crutchfield should include it in their instructions. They show you how to remove panels, dash inserts, etc. Why can't they include this if it is really a common thing now? I don't want to use those bypass devices because I don't want to void my warranty. I can't return it anymore because I have cut some wires like the ground and other. I bought this because my old JVC didn't have Android Auto. This has it but I can't use it unless I connect the parking brake wire. I called support and they said it's in the base of the handle. Well.. in the base of the handle is covered with carpet. I looked as much as I can and I didn't see where I can connect this wire. No switch there. If I have to remove the center console, then this does not fall under "easy installation". I might have to pay a shop to install this. I have been a customer of Crutchfield and these last 2 installs are a big disappointment. Once I get to finally install this radio and get to use it, I will come back and redo this review.
Pros: Size.
Cons: Sound is unimpressive. Had to pay for installation adapter (didn't buy it). Incomplete installation instructions. (See my review).

Install with PAC module was straight forward. Initially the SWC didn't function . Called tech support and was told to set the dip switches to a different configuration. Solved the problem immediately . The Alpine unit is intuitive with the car play. Everything works great. The unit gets hot as most of this type of head units do. Should have an integrated fan. Leon at tech support was on top of the switch setting issue and very willing to be available unlike most tech support these days.
Pros: Integration and supplied wiring instructions were seamless.
Cons: Microphone input was 2.5mm, most are 3.5mm. I had an existing microphone installed from the previous unit. It looked like a lot of work routing the wire so I ordered a 3.5mm to 2.5mm short adapter cord allowed me to use the existing microphone .

Great entry level Head unit, features that rival higher end units at a price that wont break your budget. 13 band equalizer, time correction, 18 watt preamp outs, and if that's not enough its upgradable with a KTA-450 amp (50 watt RMS) that docks on to the rear of the unit that slides into the dash without the hassle of wiring to another location. very responsive touch screen and of course wired Apple Carplay/Android compatible. If your looking for a awesome head unit that is full of features that should cost much more than you've found the right unit.
Pros: Features that rival high end units at a budget friendly cost

Pros: None
Cons: There is no 3.5 jack for the Steering wheel controls. I've been installing systems for 32 years and this is a first alpine junk I've seen. If this is an indicator where alpine is headed I will have to find a replacement. Thank Todd I called the tech support after two weeks of trying to figure this out on my own. Don't pay Crutchfield for the pre wiring either because they know about this issue but didn't say a word about it and just let me buy it. Terrible business practice from a company!!!

This is an awesome little head unit. Screen is nice and crisp, Apple CarPlay works flawlessly. I do have a separate amp driving my speakers/sub, but this does a great job and the settings are pretty detailed. My only minor gripe is that there is a bit of a lag, but with CarPlay, I really don't notice it. For the money, this is a great choice. I have a 2006 Lexus SC430, and one of the must-haves was retaining the factory stereo 'door' on the dash. The shallow depth of this unit allowed me to do so, and also gave ample room for the steering wheel controller and other items. You won't have issues fitting this into even the tiniest of spots.
Pros: Great looks, excellent customization options, flawless Apple CarPlay implementation.
Cons: Slight screen lag.

Soo close but not bright enough
Alan from MILLSBORO, DE on 9/5/2024
2017 Jeep Wrangler
First off, the product does require you to modify the dash of a Jeep JK. It is a minor mod of trimming the cross bar. The bigger issue is the screen brightness is insufficient for a sunny day with the top off. With the brightness all the way up to "32" (why they chose 32 and not 100 is beyond me), you have to take your sunglasses off in order to read the dim screen. The other functions work well. The sound quality and volume are exactly what I would expect from Alpine. It is a good value with the big exception of the brightness of the screen.
Pros: Cost, sound quality, volume
Cons: Brightness, requires dashboard mod.

2016 Toyota Camry factory radio took a dump so I bought the Alpine ILX-W670, it had the features I was looking for at a price I was happy with, 2 improvements would be screen brightness on sunny days and the clock when I'm on Android Auto should be bigger, other than that it's fantastic, I'd buy it again, no regrets.

For the price it's great. There are some things that it falls short on. The radio station save feature doesn't work well. On startup it doesn't go to anything if there's no phone. I figured it would go to radio like most stereos do but it just stays silent. Screen is a little laggy but still works well. Also at maximum brightness it still looks dark.
Pros: Value, features
Cons: Screen brightness and a little laggy.

2011 Ford F-150 XLT
Great improvement over OEM on the 2011 Ford F150 with sync. Even with the stock speakers the music is dramatically better. It changed enough to make me want to replace speakers as well. The menu system is easy to navigate, and it works well. I have to spend some time with android auto to learn how to use it better, but even without that the head unit is great. Love it. Also, wish I would have sprung for the maestro to keep all the steering wheel functions. I may change that later. Overall, very happy!
Pros: Great sound, clear image, great features, intuitive to use once set up, sensitive touch screen.
Cons: Parking brake wire was hard for me to connect and needed to access menu functions.

Huge Upgrade!!

I recently upgraded my car's audio system with the Alpine IL-W670, and I'm thrilled with the results. This head unit combines modern features with an easy-to-use design. The 7-inch touchscreen is bright and responsive, making it simple to navigate through menus. One of the best features is how smoothly it integrates with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, connecting effortlessly to my smartphone so I can access apps, music, and navigation right from the screen. The sound quality is outstanding, with clear highs and rich bass that really enhance the driving experience. Installation was easy, and the unit fits perfectly in my dashboard. It's well-built, and the interface is intuitive, making it a pleasure to use every day. Whether I'm streaming music, making hands-free calls, or using navigation, the Alpine IL-W670 works flawlessly. If you're looking for a reliable, feature-packed head unit to upgrade your car's audio system, I highly recommend the Alpine IL-W670. It's a great investment for anyone wanting to improve their in-car experience.
Pros: Built-in EQ Clarity Makes the stock speacker sound amazing.
Cons: None.

Excellent Installation Experience and Great Fit
Francisco from RICHMOND HILL, NY on 7/22/2024
1986 Toyota Celica ST
I recently purchased the Alpine iLX-W670 stereo from Crutchfield and couldn't be happier with the experience. The installation instructions were precise and gave me peace of mind, as I was initially worried about damaging the trim. The factory mounting brackets required only a minor modification-just straightening three pins. Other than that, they fit perfectly onto the radio. I installed it in my 1986 Toyota Corona Coupe RHD, which resembles the 1986 Toyota Celica. Although my car wasn't listed, selecting the Celica worked perfectly since the interiors are identical. Additionally, I didn't have to cut any factory wires because the receiver wiring harness provided by Crutchfield made it easy to avoid modifying the factory harness. Overall, a seamless installation and a great upgrade for my car!

Very Responsive Screen, No delay
Keith from Colorado on 7/21/2024
1998 Jeep CHerokee Classic install with Metra 95-6554B Dash Kit to allow for double DIN unit. This unit was easy to install and functions exactly as advertised. I primarily use Carplay (Spotify, Maps, text, etc) and the touchscreen is very responsive with no delay. My Pro tip: In order to install this unit which is bigger than the oddball size OEM Jeep unit, sections of the plastic dash interior needs to be cut and removed per the provided instructions. I found that heating a sharp metal knife (ie box cutter) with my propane torch and cutting/melting the plastic was quick and dust free vs grinding and/or dremeling with a cutoff blade. The Metra Dash kit looks better than the Jeep OEM !
Pros: Responsive screen, no delay, Carplay works great
Cons: none

I purchased the Apline iLX-W670 for my wife's 2015 Forester and am very happy with it so far! The display is clear and bright, while the user interface is both very responsive and highly intuitive. The sound quality is a noticeable improvement over the OEM headunit, and the time correction only elevates it further. Bluetooth connects very reliably, and I have had no issues with the wired Android Auto or Apple Carplay. This is a very nice upgrade for any older vehicle needing a double DIN audio solution. Highly recommened!
Pros: Very responsive and intuitive user interface. Wired Android Auto and Apple Carplay work flawlessly, and bluetooth connectivity has been reliable so far.
Cons: OEM backup camera image quality is a bit washed out, but this might be addressed by switching to an Alpline camera.

Initial install in 2014 Toyota FL Cruiser (Non JBL)
Brian from FORT WAYNE, IN on 7/4/2024
2014 Toyota FJ Cruiser
This was purchased to replace the stock radio in my 2014 FJ Cruiser. The radio itself is snappy, and went together quick and easy. I purchased the Readyharness (which was fantastic, thank you) and the PAC RP4.2-TY11 Wiring Interface for steering wheel controls. The PAC device's instructions are...let's face it, pretty poopy. The diagrams that they provided didn't quite match up with my expectations, I expected a 2014+ non-amplified connector configuration, but my FJ seems to use a 2013 and earlier connection per their diagram. It was also not entirely clear that the OBD2 connector should be used with my cable configuration. Finally, after making all my connections, the SWC did not work at all. Being July 4th, Crutchfield support is rightfully closed. So I went digging around in the PAC Audio knowledge base, and found a link to "TECH BRIEF - Alpine iLX-W670 Connections for SWC enabled PAC modules". This led me to set dip switches 1,2,3 to on as per "Pioneer.Other", and check that in the Alpine System Menu "SWC Adatpter" was set to "With Adapter". After making this chance, the device started operating properly with SWC enabled. I might also add: Retain Factory Backup Camera will retain it in the original rear-view mirror location, not on the radio itself, which could be more clear.
Pros: Snappy response time, easy to install, good directions on how to get old radio out.
Cons: PAC controller documentation poor/incorrect.

Overall a great radio. Don't make mistakes like I did though... The radio is SiriusXM Ready, which means that you have to buy a seperate tuner for it to work. It is also Apple car play and Android auto compatible, but only by wired connection. For the price those are just things that you have to live with though. If you want wireless carplay and active sirius, you have to pay 3-4 times the cost of this radio to get it. Overall great radio, clear readable screen, and good button feedback.

Purchased this head unit to integrate into our 2017 Honda Civic LX after previous positive experience with the Alpine Ilx-W650. Was looking for a CarPlay compatible head unit with reasonable audio quality without an amplifier, from a reputable brand, for a reasonable price. Overall, I am very happy with this unit and it does everything it advertised, and everything that I was looking for. Installation was a bit of a challenge to figure out steering wheel controls for my application, as the adapter harness was out of stock, but Crutchfield tech support was able to help get it figured out. I am happy with both of the Alpine iLX series head units we own.

2016 Ford F-250 Super Duty
I bought the ilx W670 to replace the stock radio in my Ford 2016 Super Duty. This radio is a huge upgrade from what I had. I used the existing speakers and can tell a huge difference. Overall I'm pleased. I gave it 4 stars because the main issues I had is 1) the screen is to dark even after I adjusted the brightness all the way up. 2) the instructions to install this unit were simple but the part where programming the head to my steering wheel was incorrect. I purchased the pre wired harness and everything was correct except the dial on the pac that connects to the steering wheel controls. The instructions said put the pointer on #1 this was supposed to be the Alpine channel but it did not connect. After speaking with Crutchfield tech support and trying several different things including resplicing wires they figure out the channel had to be set on #7. After this little hiccup everything has been fine. Crutchfield tech support is awesome. I am still learning my way around this unit but I think I can recommend the ilx w670 from what I have experienced so far.
Pros: The sound from this unit is great. It even made my stock speakers sound extremely good.
Cons: This unit is hard to see in daylight conditions especially if wearing sunglasses. I wish there was some way to make it brighter.

It doesn't get bright enough, sun glare, no album cover with SiriusXM. Apple car play is great and all in all it's pretty good for the price. Hopefully it last longer than Pioneer, had a AVH-W4500NEX, spent $900.00 and it was great for 3 years and then it stopped working (that's $300.00 a year to operate it) tired of spending a lot of money on stereo units, so hopefully this one lasts longer

Good sound, with the experience shot by plentiful paper cuts. Alpine stuff always sounds good. I have been installing alpine head units in my cars since 2005 and this remains true. This unit though, sounds good. But that's where it ends. It does not interface correctly with the steering wheel controls in my 2012 Prius with the recommended Axxess controller, it took over a week of messing around, following instructions which were mostly wrong, and even now it only works partially correctly. The Crutchfield instructions are flat out wrong, and the axxess controller as described was not programmed for this unit either. If you connect a device via Bluetooth, it connects when you get in the car, but does not make the audio audible until you hit the button on the touch screen. This means that your music does not automatically play so you can hear it, but skips forward silently. The park brake safety system is overly aggressive, and requires letting off the brake and then reapplying it if you start up the car with the brake already applied. So if you need to adjust any settings then this is a perennial annoyance. I bought this unit because I thought it would be better than the pioneer which was my default choice, but this unit has been a big let-down.
Pros: Sounds good, as alpine should
Cons: User interface is terrible. Doesn't work properly with steering wheel interface. Death by a thousand paper cuts.

JKUR installation
Mark from Houston, TX on 5/4/2024
My 2015 Wrangler JKU head unit finally flat-lined and I opted for the Alpine unit and amplifier (no subwoofer or backup camera)... bought all the add-ons which enabled steering controls, et al, to work seamlessly. The phone support was superb - from answering minor questions to walking me through the connections after spreading everything out on a table. The instructions for each component are standalone and aren't exactly straight forward for a specific application but the knowledgeable techs at Crutchfield were happy to hold my hand through the process and provide photos via text for a few tricks that aren't well defined. All in all, not to complex of an install. I didn't 'need' the panel tools but they were helpful. The twist connectors for wire splicing were much better than the crimp style that cut through/pierce the wire insulation. The only negative was the Metra 95-6511 Dash Kit material... assembly and fit was good, but I thought the plastic material was a bit too soft and may not hold up to vibration over time (so I added two pan head in addition to the countersink screws on both sides) particularly the side fillers. Fit and finish was acceptable although not as precise as the OEM head unit. The only issue I've encountered may be a Jeep wiring issue as both before and after the head unit/amp upgrade, my RR speaker isn't as loud as the LR speaker... may have to run new wires in lieu of the factory harness. Speaking of wires... lots of wires to stuff in..
Pros: Graphic equalizer
Cons: No volume knob

Awesome reciever I love all the different speaker control options. I have a skarr audio competition zvx d1 12"sub that's 3k rms watts powered by a ct sounds 3k monoblock along with a Rockford fosgate prime 4 channel amp powering my door speakers and tweeters all of which are alpine and I love how I can adjust my levels on each speaker individually and my sub output. The equalizer really allows me to fine tune my system to whatever genre of music im listening to. Car play is also super easy to use and this unit connects directly to my vehicles onboard usb port so I just plug in there no hanging wires needed. It has 4volt pre amp outputs and front rear and sub rcas . Superior quality and affordable. Great job alpine .
Pros: 4volt pre amp outs slim profile radio use
Cons: Not too friendly with metra dash kit for fords 2011 - 2015 explorer dash kit . Requires separate stw control adapter and an update.

This is a pretty good unit that installs pretty easily. It is pretty low powered. Seemed to have less lower than my factory 2012 Sierra radio. So, plan on buying an amp for sure. Also, it does not have wireless Android Auto or Apple Car play. Having to plug in to use nav sucks. Screen sensitivity could be better. Apline iLK-W670 and Crutchfield ROCKS!
Robert from SIERRA VISTA, AZ on 3/24/2024
2007 Chevrolet Impala
I just installed my new Alpine iLX-W670 in my 2007 Chevy Impala SS. After a quick and helpful chat with Eugene to make sure I was getting the right stuff was very helpful, thanks man! I also ordered the Metra 95-3305 Dash Kit (Black), PAC RP5-GM31 Wiring Interface and had you guys assemble the harness. The install was easier than expected and fit perfectly, looks like it came from the factory this way. The system initial set up was easy to navigate and paired quickly with my iPhone and the user interface was simple to get things set up to the way I wanted it. The quality of the sound out of the Alpine is INCREDIBLE and really woke up the Bose speaker system that came stock in the car. The entire process, shopping, price, tech help, on time delivery was spot on. This was my first order with Crutchfield and am now a customer for life. My ONLY regret was not getting a back up camera because I didn't want to over complicate the install, seeing as it was my first car audio project. But this whole experience was so easy, I have the confidence to go back and do it.
Pros: Price, Tech Support, Ease of Install, quality Metra Double DIN dash bezel (not cheap plastic), massive sound improvement, user interface and initial set up
Cons: NO cons to list for Alpine or Crutchfield. I should have ordered the back up camera as well. Apple and their Car Play function lacks the ability to upload your own Wallpaper on the Car Play screen.

Unable to program steering wheel controls :(
Crutchfield customer from SAN ANTONIO, TX on 3/23/2024
2019 Toyota 4Runner
I was wrapping up what I thought would be an easy install in my wife's 2019 4Runner and turned the unit on to test it. It sounded great and the screen and menus worked well, with the exception of the steering wheel controls. This unit does not have a iDatalink port so the install guide tells you to connect the blue/yellow wire from the iDatalink Maestro to the SW1 wire coming from the back of the Alpine unit (white connector). After that the guide gives instructions for how to program your steering wheel controls from the Alpine unit. The programming did not work, so I called Crutchfield tech support. After confirming wiring was correct and the settings on the Alpine unit were correct, the tech told me that this issue has been coming up and Alpine is aware of it. The tech advised returning the unit for a different unit. I contacted customer service and arranged to return the W670. The return process was very easy over the phone. I am going to try the JVC KW-M785BW which has an iDatalink port and has wireless apple carplay, two things the Alpine W670 does not have.I am disappointed that this unit failed in terms of steering wheel controls, but Crutchfield was helpful and I have high hopes for the JVC unit. P.S. Others have mentioned it, but be sure to hook up the GPS antenna so the clock on the unit works. When testing I hid the antenna inside the dash and it still picked up signal just fine. If you don't care about retaining steering wheel controls this might
Pros: Great looks, great sound, responsive menu, clear bright screen.
Cons: Steering wheel controls do not work.

Only had this installed a few days, but it is everything you are looking for. Other reviews mentioned it's strange to not have a volume knob and I agree, but with SWC I didn't really use the knob on my stock stereo anyway. So. I actually came here to also sing the praises of customer support and the ready harness add on. To install in my Jeep ('16 WU) and keep steering wheel controls I needed a separate harness as well. That's a ton of connections that I didn't have to make, well worth the money. Then, because this is a new unit for 2024 the SWC wasn't working out-of-the-box. I called up Cs and Clint had everything working in the blink of an eye! So, this experience has been spectacular and the customer support was fantastic. This is a great unit and a great customer centered company. Thank you Crutchfield!

Nice upgrade, has a few annoyances
Robert from Seabeck, WA on 3/14/2024
1996 Subaru Outback
Installed this in my old daily driver Subaru Impreza. I'm sure everyone knows the features, so I'll go over what I don't like. 1) If you connect parking brake wire, you have to e-brake on, then off, then on when stopped to use menus. I bought a bypass. 2) Can't remove icons (Carplay, iPod, or SiriusXM) but I have to look at those every day. Does anyone use an iPod anymore? 3) I don't like any of the included "Screen Colors" which are actually wallpapers. Problem is the deck only stores one custom wallpaper at a time. 4) No explanation in the manual of which size or aspect ratio custom wallpapers should be. 5) The main screen icons are translucent so some wallpapers make it hard to see the icons unless the background is dark. 6) USB and AUX jack hanging off the back. Since most people will use this for Android Auto or Carplay and plug their phone in, it would be nice to have some kind of surface mount included instead of having cords running from the under the dash. I plan on ordering surface mounts for these. 7) The radio has "A.MEMO" button at the bottom which wipes out all your preset stations and memorizes new ones if you accidentally tap it. 8) No explanation of what "Installation: NOK" means in the manual. Eventually it changed to OK. 9) No explanation of what "speed pulse" means in the manual. Crutchfield said for my car to connect the speed sensor wire to green/black wire on 18 pin harness. Speed
Pros: Good pre-amp voltage, clean sound, nice touch screen, enough customization for most people
Cons: Parking brake on/off/on safety is annoying, can only store one custom wallpaper at a time, included wallpapers aren't great, can't customize icons or on-screen button colors, can't remove unwanted icons, physical buttons only have a few colors, USB and AUX jacks dangling unless you buy a surface mount, manual lacks explanations of a few things

This unit sounds amazing. I have it run through a factory Harmon Kardon system and it is crystal clear with plenty of sound customization features. The android auto works great as well as the hands free calling function. There are a couple of drawbacks. The screen isn't very bright which is a problem on a sunny day which the screen is not antiglare and can be very difficult to see. Not being able to set the clock manually is a pain as well.

Cons: No antiglare screen Screen not real bright No manual clock setting

Okay unit, but some things to know before installing. There needs to be some allowable adjustments in the main display setting. I wish I would get rid of A MEMO function, that is a STUPID function. While driving it's easy to hit that button and all your presets get overridden. The time cannot be adjusted without the GPS antenna, again this is stupid. The unit doesn't have navigation, so I didn't install the antenna and now I'm having to go back and install it so the time will adjust. Whoever thought they didn't need to add a manual time adjustment, please fire them.

Just Okay, Expected Better
Jeff from PORT DEPOSIT, MD on 2/24/2024
2011 Chevrolet Tahoe
Seems like a decent head unit. Had to jump through some hoops to get it right. Straight out of the box, SWC would not work. The first technical representative I spoke to had me troubleshooting up until the point that I was asked to cut a splice out of the harness to test the wires by manually connecting them. Not too happy about that, but I did what I was asked by him anyhow. I paid for the ready harness and then was asked to cut on it. What if I didn't have tools or my own splices? Anyhow, about 1.5 hours later the issue was discovered by a second representative because she had me change the dip switches on the PAC unit to something that was not instructed. Instead of just "1" being on, apparently "1,2,3" on and "4" off solved the issue. So all along, I should have never had to cut into the harness. Along with this, I'm having some issues with apple carplay staying connected. It wants to keep disconnecting quickly after connecting and sometimes the usb has power to charge the phone, sometimes it doesn't. And if you're reading these reviews, you should know by now that the chime is a horrible sound but there's no other way around it. Really wish this was a better experience for what the product costs.
Pros: Good sound Good visuals Touchscreen is sensitive
Cons: PAC unit being a pain Chime sound CarPlay disconnecting/being glitchy

Excellent EQ and audio adjustment options with a smooth user interface. The install was very easy. Getting the steering wheel controls to work with the head unit was a little tricky, but Crutchfield's excellent Custom Support helped me sort it out. It produces a noticeable increase in audio quality over the stock head unit in my 05 sequoia with JBL sound.
Pros: Ease of installation, sound quality improvement, user interface, EQ adjustments, Apple CarPlay.
Cons: Retaining steering wheel controls may require updating firmware on the SWC adapter.

The system I bought works very well and nice looking in my MH, my only complaint if there is on is that Crutchfield does not carry any cage frames for double den system.

I really like my new Alpine iLX-W670 because it's easy to use, the screen is intuitive and I don't need to consult the manual to operate it, they could improve it by making the volume - + symbols a little bigger but other than that I'm happy

Out of the box, the CarPlay did not work for more than a few seconds to a few minutes. I tried multiple lightning cables and two different phones. Today, I removed the Alpine supplied usb cable/receptacle and ran my iPhone's cable directly into the back of the unit; SUCCESS! I drove around for several short trips and the CarPlay did not crash. I'm going to see if there's a firmware update, because I find it weird that Bluetooth phone calls transmit terrible voice quality, but when plugged into CarPlay mode it is crystal clear. I tried it both ways with my friend on his home phone and he went as far as to say in CarPlay it was the best mobile phone call he's ever heard! Impressive since I'm in a 20 year old diesel truck with a straight piped exhaust! Wow! The mic is super directional and once aimed properly he reports I'm very loud and clear with no background noise at all. Sound quality at this price point is excellent! After my install and just a quick eq adjust, the sound was night and day better than the Jensen it just replaced. It was like I installed new speakers! I'm very pleased. Hopefully she provides years of good service :)
Pros: Sound Phone call audio xmit in CarPlay Price Shallow depth makes it easy to mount
Cons: Bad usb cable supplied No volume knob Auto dimmer; Alpine should have just used the dimmer wire instead of their sensor on the front.

Love the new iLX-W670
David from Southlake, TX on 12/18/2023
Great Car Play / Android headunit! Love the audio adjustment updates (over the iLX-W650) and the internface with the Maestro RR on a 2017 4runner for the steering wheel controls is nice to have. Crutchfield tech support resolved my steering wheel connection error with a 5 min call, so very happy with the purchase. Also, Toyota factory USB and camera work perfectly with cables and interface recommended. Mounting kit looks very much like OEM.
Pros: Sounds better than factory, apple car play and android auto are a huge update!
Cons: Getting the steering wheel control buttons to work was a little difficult, once I contacted tech support I had it fixed in 5 min. Everything else was very straight forwad.

Excellent Alpine
Jay from Jackson, WI on 12/4/2023
2006 Chevrolet Colorado
I bought this unit for my work truck based on owning an Alpine iLX-W650 for many years. The W650 was a solid unit and is still in service. The W670 continues with the Alpine tradition of making a very good head unit. Touch sensitivity is excellent, and features are very good for a budget priced head unit. Plenty of power for moderate listening in a noisy work truck and CarPlay works excellent. The Bluetooth features for the phone and music are also very good. The only small nit-pick on this unit is that the microphone and / or microphone preamp quality is average as was the microphone quality in the older W650. I can hear my callers very well, though my contacts mention my voice may not be as clear as other systems I've used. There is a handy gain function with 3 levels for the microphone built into the software which did help my issue a bit. Alpine updated the mic clip to a more robust plastic clip that attaches to my truck's headliner much better than the older clip on the W650. A small, but welcome update. The EQ section is expansive, time delay section works well, and the crossover functions are also excellent. I have zero complaints on this head unit and it's been a workhorse for me. Highly recommended.
Pros: Easy to Use Looks Great Functions Flawlessly Lots of Value
Cons: Mic Quality Could be Better

MASSIVE Improvement for my Truck!
Crutchfield customer from San Ramon, CA on 11/25/2023
MASSIVE improvement for my 2005 Toyota Tundra! I just replaced my truck stereo (an old Alpine CD player I purchased from Crutchfield - still working perfectly!) and every thing about this deck rocks. I love the sound quality, power (w/o amplifier) and the advanced features of CarPlay. Amazing to have in-dash navigation and hands free in my truck!!! Installation was a breeze with a few semi-pro tasks required (modifications to install brackets, grinding off alignment nubs .) but it is pretty straightforward.
Pros: Sound quality, features like EQ, bass boost, clean design/interface, usability
Cons: None. Darn near perfect.

Sadly disappointed
Damien from Charlotte on 11/22/2023
2007 Pontiac Solstice
This is a great price for an Alpine head unit. Right? I definitely thought so. When presented with this brand new option and the fact it was the replacement for a best selling unit, it was a no brainer. I was sold. Especially considering I was "upgrading" from a generic Android unit with a ton of features but was very unreliable and simple, yet very important things to me like Apple Car play and steering wheel controls didn't work. So enter the ILX- W670. it sounds good, but not very loud. And it does this weird jump in volume when adjusting the the eq or tone controls. I don't like that. - 1 star Know something else I don't like? Paying for the wiring service (well done btw) to find out that there's nowhere to plug the SWC! And per the troubleshooting tech, no work around. - 1 star But, my biggest issue, is knowing that I'm gonna have to uninstall this because of a growing number of glitches. Like the screen jumping to the reverse camera screen while driving and having to stop and put my car in reverse to unlock or unfreeze the display. And as of this morning the latest glitch are Apple CarPlay being at a whisper and getting stuck in FM radio mode. - 1 star Not gonna minus a star for this, but the display on the cheap generic Android unit was more vivid and clear. Especially for the reverse camera. I'm truly disappointed.
Pros: Price, 4 volt outputs, phone calls are clear on both sides, simple ui
Cons: *Has many glitches and bugs *not very loud, needs an aftermarket amp *Display looks outdated and fuzzy

Second alpine radio . I bought the ilx 650 and had a lot of problems, for example it would shut off when the rear view camera was activated . I disconnected the camera and put up with it for years.I thought my bad luck with alpine was a fluke because I was under the impression alpine was good quality products . I updated to ilx 670 and it was fine for a month and now it shuts off when I get a phone call from every once and a while . I have to wait until I pull over and shut the car off to get it to reset. Disappointed say the least. Hopefully Crutchfield will accept a return or exchange. I would have just kept my stock radio if I new this was going to be such a pain in the butt.
Pros: Looks nice, sounds ok.
Cons: Shuts off sometimes when I get a phone call and I need to pull over and shut car off to reset

Great picture, great response, poor sound
Crutchfield customer from Fort Campbell, KY on 11/5/2023
2013 Chevrolet Impala
Amazing touch response, Apple car play works great and connects to phone instantly. If you are someone who only wants a high end head unit for apple CarPlay or android auto this a perfect selection for you. however if you are someone who wants high end sound quality you may want to look for a amp to power your speakers as this head unit is extremely weak and doesn't give off the best sound. while it may be an upgrade from stock, for someone who builds specifically for sound quality, it definitely disappointed me. however I do have a stock Bose amp that sounds amazing already so when I connected to the adapter with the Bose setting it sounded perfect. so to sum it up, if you want sound get an amp. if you just want Apple car play etc. this is an absolutely amazing choice.
Pros: Apple car play works perfectly, screen looks amazing, awesome sound settings, great features.
Cons: Poor sound quality

Better than the Pioneer 4500NEX it replaced
Toby from Midland, TX on 11/1/2023
2012 Honda Accord
Replaced a Pioneer 4500NEX with this unit at 1/3 the cost and realized I should have purchased the ILX-w650 over that over priced Pioneer it was nothing but trouble. So far I am pleased with this 670, it's not wireless car play but that was always a hit or miss proposition. Very responsive capacitive touch screen and great am/fm reception for when I don't feel like plugging in or using bluetooth. Bluetooth works well as long as you remember to turn the volume of the phone up. May decide to add the amp later but I must say the music gets loud enough without it. Overall I am extremely happy with this unit.

Well worth the price. I paired this with the KTA-200M amp and have it running just 4 Infinity Reference door speakers and 1 Kicker 10" enclosure and it transformed my sound from night to day. Plenty of power for daily listening, even cranked up, and the Sub integration is perfect. I really never knew the Infinity's could sound as good as they do. Well worth the upgrade.
Pros: User interface, audio settings quick access, good power right out of the box
Cons: Touch control for volume kind of small and not easy to quickly adjust up or down.
