Product Research

Features

GM Class II (24-pin/12-pin) Radio Replacement Interface: The PAC RP5-GM11 radio replacement interface allows the replacement of your vehicle's factory radio with an upgraded aftermarket head unit in select GM vehicles. The RP5-GM11 has been engineered to interface seamlessly with your vehicle's computer data bus system (Class II) and retain important safety and convenience features. This all-in-one radio replacement interface offers OnStar retention, amplifier retention, built-in SWC (Steering Wheel Controls), navigation based output signals, and other features that save time during installation.

  • Convenience Features: The PAC RP5-GM11 radio replacement interface retains a variety of convenience features when replacing your vehicle's factory radio with an aftermarket head unit. You'll continue to be able to use your vehicle's factory OnStar system with turn-by-turn voice prompts and volume adjustments. Your vehicle's warning chimes (w/ volume adjustment) and retained accessory power output (RAP) will remain completely functional. RAP allows the ignition power source of many GM vehicles to keep the radio on until one of the doors is opened.
  • Amplified & Non-Amplified Systems: The PAC RP5-GM11 is compatible with amplified and non-amplified factory audio systems. Its compatible with both Bose and Premium Bose audio systems. The unit does not support fading for Premium Bose systems.
  • Factory Entertainment Features: The RP5-GM11 retains several factory entertainment features; including Bluetooth (2009+ vehicles), Aux input, rear seat entertainment (RSE), rear seat audio controls, and dual zone functionality. In order to retain factory rear seat entertainment, your aftermarket head unit must be fitted with a rear-panel AUX or AV input. Since the RP5-GM11 is outfitted with stereo RCA jacks, if your aftermarket head unit has a 3.5mm Aux input, you will need a stereo RCA-to-minijack adapter (sold separately - see accessory list).
  • Navigation Outputs: The PAC radio replacement interface also provides a VSS (vehicle speed sense), Parking Brake, and a Reverse Gear output to make installing an aftermarket navigation head unit simpler and less time consuming. In addition, the interface retains your vehicle's back-up sensors and park assist feature. *The VSS wire is not provided for Corvettes with a factory equipped Denso brand radio.

Built-in SWC (Steering Wheel Controls): The interface comes pre-programmed for all of the vehicle's factory SWC functions and does not require programming, unless you wish to re-assign the SWC functions to different buttons. The SWC functions can be easily programmed; see control settings and functions in owner's manual. The interface retains programming even if your vehicle's battery is disconnected.

Note: The SWC harness contains a Blue/Yellow wire and a 3.5mm connector. You will only use one of the connectors, based on your type of aftermarket radio. The Blue/Yellow wire supports Kenwood, Newer JVC, OEM and Blaupunkt radios. The 3.5mm jack supports Alpine, Jensen, Older JVC, Clarion, Pioneer, Sony, and Dual radios. Not compatible with Soundstream head units.

Vehicle Compatibility: The PAC RP5-GM11 is compatible with select 2000-up GM vehicles with Class II (24-pin/12-pin) data bus systems.

Q
If my new stereo has a built in amp and I use this kit to retain steering wheel controls and onstar will it only retain my factory amp or will it use the stereo amp?
lakertendo  Apr 12, 2024
1 answer
A
Hey Kevin, so the PAC harness is designed to retain your factory amp rather than use your new radios amp. This design choice is there to simplify the installation process as bypassing the amp would certainly be a bit more involved of a process that not many really want to get into with their new radio installation.

Q
Does this harness set include the trigger for the back up camera? I saw a video that uses harness part number LC-GMRC-01 by Axxass.
chris  Mar 26, 2024
1 answer
A
Greetings Chris. Thank you for your question. This PAC harness has the reverse wire, parking brake wire, and vehicle speed sensor wires. Depending on your vehicle (some have a data wire to the factory radio), you may not have to run wire and splice elsewhere.
hogan  Mar 26, 2024 (Staff)
Q
Will this work with a Joybring Joy-w006?
andy  Dec 23, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Andy. Thank you for your question. This should work fine for power, ground, and all the speaker terminals. We do not test this on that brand of stereos, We do know this does work with stereos we offer. Part of this interface is also a steering wheel control module which again works with most of our stereo in keeping the vehicles radio buttons on the steering wheel working. Its doubtful that will work on the Joybring stereo.

Q
I Installed a JVC KW-V660BT with the PAC RP5-GM11 Wiring Interface on my dads 2007 Chevy Corvette convertible A/T with bose audio system and had Crutchfield do the Ready harness so that it would just be plug and play. After getting it in, everything worked perfect except for the steering wheel controls. I did a different head unit but same GM-11 harness with Crutchfields ready harness on my 2007 manual targa corvette with bose aidiots and the steering wheel controls work completely fine on mine. I don't want to take everything back apart yet so I just wanted to see if anyone else has had this problem? If so what did you do to fix it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
jakob  Dec 03, 2023
1 answer
A
If you are having any issues with your Crutchfield order Jakob, we are here to help. If after install the steering wheel controls are unresponsive, follow the steps on page 5 of the PAC RP5-GM11 install manual. There is a procedure for steering wheel control re-calibration on some Corvette's. This procedure does require you to watch for LED indicators on the harness, so the radio does have to come back out of the dash for the programming procedure. If you have any issues, make sure to reach out to us on our Technical Support hotline at 1-888-292-2575 and we would be happy to assist!

Q
Hi, I have a 2003 chevy avalanche z71. It has a Bose system, but doesn't have onstar, or steering wheel controls, though I would like to install a backup camera. Do I need the Rp5-gm11? Any suggestions on what accessories I would need for a complete install?
john  Nov 24, 2023
1 answer
A
At this time, we do offer a wiring interface that is better suited to installing a touchscreen radio into your Avalanche. The rest of the installation parts will vary depending on the radio you choose. A product advisor can discuss the radio you want to install and help you get all the correct installation parts. They can be reached by calling 1-800-324-9695 and are happy to help!

Q
When using a pac rp5-gm11, can you change head unit from Kenwood to pioneer, or do you need to purchase a new pac?
matt  Mar 19, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Matt, and thank you for your question. The PAC interface is vehicle specific, not stereo specific. If switching to a Pioneer, just re-wire it to the Pioneer harness, and reset the SW control dip switches to match the Pioneer.

Q
Out of the back of interface connector 3, there is a pair of white/white black wires going to a two pin connector. This connector does not go to the chime unit, what does it connect to?
jake  Jan 17, 2023
1 answer
A
That is a great question, Jake. This appears to be useful in some installs for playing those chimes through to front speakers. This is not needed in your install, so no worries!

Q
The pictures of this unit appear to be of a newer design. Did they improve on the harness-module connections?
alex  May 07, 2022
1 answer
A
If the picture is indeed of the unit they are making today, than yes, I would say it's a much better cable layout. I bought mine about 2 years ago, and it had three connections on one side, and 2 more on the side, 90 degrees from it. Made making a nice cable layout very difficult.

The 2005 corvette security system runs through the stock radio head unit. will I need the PAC RP5-GM11 to make sure security still works and my car will still start? Also does this plug directly into the vehicles wiring harness? Thank you!

I'm sorry, but honestly I don't know, what I do know is that alarm works fine, but my car is a 2008 base corvette I had a professional shop installed for me
maximo  May 02, 2022
A
Usually need this if you have a subwoofer or amp in the system if its bose you need it. The door chimes are added with a small speaker box. If you dont have a amp or sub probably is a way to install without. Not a pro installer. I have installed a few on yukons and silverados. So not sure on the corvettes.

I purchased a JVC KWM750BT for a 08 Trailblazer and I'm trying to figure out this chime module. Do I have to use that? Why aren't the factory chimes working? It sounds pretty terrible.
justin  May 18, 2020
3 answers
A
No, you do not have to use it, but if you turn it down to it's lowest volume setting, it is fairly comparable to the audio( at least close enough to deal with) that you had before. It was GM'S infinite wisdom to put the alarms into the audio system, thus causing the need for this module. But if you don't mind not being reminded about your seat belts, or lights, it isn't necessary.
michael  May 20, 2020
A
Yes you have to use the chime module, otherwise you loose ur chimes all together. If you look at the module there is a dile that adjusts how loud/harsh the chime tone is. I turned mine all the way down so it sound soft like the factory chime.
travis  May 20, 2020
A
Unfortunately the factory chimes comes out from speakers so I guess it's thigh with the factory radio, I didn't like it either but I rather have it for safety reasons that can involve children, you need to find the sweet spot in your car so it doesn't sound pretty bad and you can also adjust the volume in it, but the trick it's the sweet spot for it in your SUV, if you find the perfect spot for it and adjust the volume it will be just fine. Another note, if you're trying it with the head unit out it will drive you nuts because it sounds pretty bad so I suggest that either put the radio in place so you can listen to it or cover the area if you don't want to keep moving the radio in and out. And believe me, after a couple of weeks you will not even remember how your factory chime used to sound.

Q
Will this work on a 1992Corvette with a Delco Bose Gold System ?
bill  Mar 26, 2019
2 answers
A
It won't. This system is made for 2000 and newer GM vehicles - if I remember correctly, all you need is a dash kit and wiring harness - there's a special wiring harness that Metra makes for older GM vehicles with the Bose systems, it's pretty much plug-and-play...

Q
Can I add aftermarket amp and subs with this?
seanj  Mar 17, 2019
2 answers
A
The receiver has a full set of pre-amp outputs for connecting to an amp. Separate pairs for front, rear, and sub. Most quality amps use those connections.
casey  Jan 17, 2020
A
This interface is meant to help install a new radio. If you installed one of those with a subwoofer preamp output, then this part with that radio will get you ready for the amp and sub install. If you are only wanting to install an amp/sub setup to the stock radio, other parts will be needed. For that, I recommend calling an advisor on 1-800-324-9695 for help with those parts. If this question is regarding an install in a Chevrolet Truck, I can't answer the question. I did not receive the correct install kit with the radio I purchased from Crutchfield!
michael  Apr 02, 2018
A
It does require you to connect wires together, if that's what you mean by splicing. That's because each vehicle is going to have a different harness and each stereo is going to have a different harness. I didn't solder mine but what I did was twist the wires together and then I used shrink tubing and a heat gun to seal it. That makes a nice, tight, waterproof seal. You can get a heat gun for less than $15 at Harbor Freight and shrink tubing is very, very cheap. Just make sure you put the shrink tubing on BEFORE you twist the wires together!

Why is it that I can't use my steering wheel controls? I have a Sony MEX-BT4100P unit with this wiring interface. There are one of two connections to use for swc, for the instructions say to use the 3.5mm jack... the blue/yellow wire is for other brand stereo units. There are 2 3.5mm jack inputs on my sony unit, tried them both, and nothing works.

It will not, no. None of the integration harness options we have for the 2006 Grand Prix will retain the factory RDS (Radio Data System) display information. The good news is, if the aftermarket stereo you select supports RDS or features a built-in HDRadio tuner, the text information will display on the new stereo's readout. Bit confused. I have read that if you use the Pac to retain Onstar and chimes, that you will still need something like the aswc-1 to retain the steering wheel controls; volume, seek, source, etc. But it says in this info the Pac does it all? I have a 2003 gmc Sierra with Premium(not bose). I really don't care about ONstar or the chimes(hate em). Any advise greatly appreciated.

Hi, I have a 2006 GMC Yukon SLT with Bose and rear seat entertainment (RSE). The factory head unit plays the sound from the rear seat dvd player through the speakers. I would like to retain that feature when replacing the head unit with a DVD/double din unit of some kind. Has anyone had a positive experience using this Module?
