Features

CEA-2006 Compliant: CEA-2006 is a system of testing and measurement for mobile audio amplifiers. This voluntary standard advocates a uniform method for measuring an amplifier's RMS power output and signal-to-noise ratio. The criteria for measuring amplifier power uses a DC input voltage of 14.4 volts and the RMS power output is measured over a frequency range of 20 Hz to 20 kHz (for full range amplifiers), with 1% or less Total Harmonic Distortion plus noise (THD+N). Signal-to-Noise ratio is measured in weighted absolute decibels (dBA) at a reference of 1 watt into 4 ohms. CEA-2006 standards allow consumers to compare car amplifiers and receivers under the same conditions (apples to apples).

CEA-2006 Specifications:

  • Power Output: 150 watts RMS x 1 into 4Ω
  • Signal to Noise Ratio: >80 dBA (measured at 1 watt into 4Ω)

Other Specifications:

  • Power Output: 250 watts RMS x 1 into 2Ω (14.4 volts)

Mounting: The amplifier can be mounted vertically, horizontally, or inverted using the supplied mounting screws; horizontal mounting (right side up) will provide the best cooling.

Controls

Gain: The rotary gain control is labeled 0 to 11, equivalent to 150mV-4V line level or 450mV-12V speaker level.

Infra-Sonic: The variable infrasonic filter (15-40 Hz, 12 dB/octave slope) is designed to prevent frequencies below the capability of the subwoofer from being amplified. This helps reduce distortion, and is particularly useful when powering subs in ported enclosures.

Frequency: The 12dB/octave low-pass crossover is always engaged (it cannot be bypassed). The crossover frequency is set with a rotary dial, continuously variable from 50-250 Hz.

Punch EQ: The Punch EQ bass boost circuit is adjustable from 0 (min) to +18 dB (max) and centered at 45 Hz.

Auto Turn-on Switch: When using speaker level inputs, this switch can be set to On and the amp will turn on when it senses an input signal (DC offset on the left input). When using the RCA inputs a remote turn-on wire must be connected.

Remote Level Control: A wired Remote Level Control is included, allowing you to remotely control the output level of the amplifier from the dash or center console. The remote has a rotary dial, and comes with mounting hardware and a 16' cable.

Remote Dimensions:

  • Width: 1.16" (2" including the mounting flanges)
  • Height: 0.92"
  • Depth: 1.55" (2.375" including knob and wiring)
Connections

Power Terminals: The power and ground set-screw terminals will accommodate up to 4-gauge wire. The set screws are tightened/loosened with the included 3mm hex key.

Fuse: The amplifier does not have an on-board fuse. A 50-amp fuse should be placed on the power wire within 18" of the battery.

Remote Turn-On Terminal: The remote turn-on set-screw terminal will accommodate up to 8-gauge wire. The set screw is tightened/loosened with the included 3mm hex key.

Speaker Terminals: The set-screw speaker terminals will accommodate up to 8-gauge wire. The set screws are tightened/loosened with the included 3mm hex key.

RCA Input: There is one pair of RCA input jacks. The balanced differential inputs are nickel-plated to resist signal degradation caused by corrosion.

RCA Pass-Thru: A pair of nickel-plated RCA pass-thru jacks provides a convenient way to connect an additional amplifier without running an extra set of RCA cables from the front of the vehicle to the amplifier location. The signal from the inputs is passed directly to the RCA outputs.

Speaker Level Inputs: There is a port for the included speaker input harness. If speaker level inputs are used, nothing should be connected to the RCA jacks.

Customer Q&A

Q
this amp is one channel however there's two channels A & B both have + & - then there's 2ohm in the middle w/ just one sub. is either A+- or B+- an A & B used together is for dual subs?
steve  Apr 10, 2024
1 answer
A
The Rockford Fosgate R2-250X1 is a mono amplifier Steve, that is absolutely correct. You can connect two subwoofers to the amplifier's outputs, with the lowest impedance compatible being 2-ohms.
bo  Apr 10, 2024 (Staff)
Q
Can this amp be safely installed in a f150 powerboost hybrid?
steve  Jul 07, 2023
1 answer
A
Hey Stephen. I don't see that we've researched the powerboost hybrid version of the F-150, but as a general rule with all hybrid vehicles we have researched, you can't exceed a 30-amp current draw with an added amp. The Rockford is 50-amp. I am passing along the information to our team now to get the powerboost hybrid version added into our database.

Q
Does this amp have signal sensing power on for those of us who have factory head units with no remote lead?
rob  Jul 03, 2023
1 answer
A
This amplifier does feature Auto Turn-on Switch capability when using speaker-level inputs.
zachary  Jul 03, 2023 (Staff)
Q
Is this the preferred amp for a single Fosgate r2d4 10" in a sealed box?
kenneth  Apr 24, 2023
1 answer
A
The R2-250X1 would be a perfect match for a single R2D4-10.
zachary  Apr 24, 2023 (Staff)
Q
So I have 2 4 ohm subs. Do I need to wire them in parallel in box or just plug each speaker into amp? Can you bridge this amp?
kaine  Feb 24, 2023
1 answer
A
I can certainly help here, Kaine. The potent Rockford Fosgate R2-250X1 IS 2-ohm stable and delivers the maximum wattage (250-watts) at that impedance. This amp is non-bridgeable as it only has one channel. You can either wire your dual 4-ohm subs in parallel inside your box or connect each speaker's positive and negative wires directly to the Fosgate's terminals. Both ways to connect will show 2-ohms at the amp, so choose whichever you prefer!
bo  Feb 25, 2023 (Staff)
Q
Can I run 2 12 inch subs to this amp?
ian  Feb 13, 2023
1 answer
A
Yes you can wire 2 subwoofers together to run off of a mono amp like this Rockford. If you need help matching the power and ohms of your subwoofers to this particular amp, we have experts available at 800.324.9695 that can help verify what you have so please give us a call!
arielle  Feb 13, 2023 (Staff)
Q
Can the R2-250x1 run on 1 ohm and if so, how many watts can it dish out?
isaiah  Aug 30, 2021
2 answers
A
No. It is only stable down to 2 ohm
richard  Aug 31, 2021
A
No. It's rated for either 2ohms or 4 ohms. 150W @ 4 ohms, 250W @ 2 ohms.
henry  Aug 31, 2021
Q
I have a 2 ohm DVC 10" Rockford Fosgate sub, can this be wired to maintain 250 watts RMS @ 2 ohm?
kaden  Jun 16, 2021
1 answer
A
No unfortunately that sub can only be wired for 4 ohm or 1 ohm operation. You would need a dual 4 ohm sub for that amp.
roger  Jun 16, 2021
Q
How do you switch between 2 ohms and 4 ohms?
isaac  Aug 26, 2020
1 answer
A
There is no switch, its a combination of how you wire the subs and whether they are single or dual voice coil at 2 or 4 ohms
chris  Sep 02, 2020
Q
Will this amp work well with an aftermarket stereo and two 10in sub-woofers?
jacob  Aug 02, 2020
3 answers
A
I would only use I amp per sub or get a bigger amp. In my opinion this amp wouldn't be powerful enough to push both subs.
enrique  Aug 04, 2020
A
Worked great for me with a alpine stereo and a 10" sub
jeff  Aug 03, 2020
A
As long as your aftermarket stereo has a sub out and your particular subs are compatible with this amp you should be fine.
richard  Aug 02, 2020
Q
Does this amp have soft/delay on to prevent pops?
david  Jan 12, 2020
1 answer
A
It does not. It has a signal sensing turn on if you are using the speaker level inputs or you would need to use the remote turn-on wire if using the line level inputs.
