Marantz CD60

Treat your CDs right with the Marantz CD60 (shown in black) and hear the clarity and dynamics that made the format revolutionary in the first place.

Marantz has been making high-performance CD players since the dawn of the format. Following in the footsteps of its great-sounding predecessors, the CD60 offers warm, detailed sound. The company's proprietary analog audio circuitry provides super-accurate signal transfer and nimble transient response.

This player's smooth-operating disc transport gets a nice, stabilizing assist from its sturdy double-bottomed steel construction and substantial aluminum faceplate. At north of 16 pounds, it's got satisfying heft.

DAC options and headphone amp

The CD60 features a new reference-class DAC that provides up to 24-bit/192kHz resolution. And whether you're playing a CD or using the front-panel USB port to play from an external USB flash drive, a selectable digital filter lets you tailor its performance to your listening preference. You can also use the optical or coaxial digital outputs if you want to connect to an outboard DAC.

Its built-in HDAM®-SA2 headphone amp has three gain settings for a perfect match with pretty much any headphones.

Features

Optimized HDAM Circuit: Marantz developed its own discrete circuit boards to replace standard ICs. These HDAMs consist of discrete surface mount components with short mirror image L/R signal paths. These devices do exactly the same thing as the Op-Amps but outperform the regular IC Op-amps dramatically in terms of the Slew Rate and reduced noise level, resulting in more dynamic, accurate and detailed sound. In the CD60, the optimized HDAM-SA2 circuit improves on previous HDAM module versions by placing the parts symmetrically on the audio board and creating a more direct signal path. The result is an improved stereo soundstage.

High Current Power Supply: The Marantz CD60 employs a power supply that utilizes highspeed, high-current Schottky barrier diodes, higher value current storage capacitors and improved voltage regulators. Oversize capacitors in the power supply improve current stability and reduced noise during highly demanding listening sessions.

High Quality DAC with Selectable Filters: The Marantz CD60 is equipped with a high quality DAC (digital-to-analog converter) offering two selectable filter options, and provides up to 24-bit/192kHz and DSD 5.6MHz resolution for optimum musical fidelity with tight bass, pleasant mids and smooth extended highs for CD playback and Hi-Res formats from a USB thumbdrive. The CD60 introduces a new selectable digital filter option. This two-mode filter (Filter1/Filter2) allows optimized reproduction of digital music content using the reference class D/A converter to your taste. Filter 1 is a slow roll-off preset that improves deep stereo imaging while Filter 2 is a sharp roll-off filter for more precise imaging reproduction.

Disc Compatibility: The Marantz CD60 can play CD-Audio, CD-R, and CD-RW discs (both 12cm and 8cm discs). The CD60 supports MP3 and WMA audio files (up to 320kbps/48kHz) that have been recorded onto CD-R or CD-RW discs in ISO9660 mode 1/2 or Juliet/Romeo disc format. The Marantz CD player will recognize up to 256 folders folders and 512 total files. The unit will also display MP3-ID3 and WMA-text for song/artist/album information (no album art).

Note: The Marantz CD60 does not support SACD, DVD-Audio, or CD-Text.

USB-A Port: The Marantz CD60 is outfitted with a front-panel USB (type-A) port for connection of a USB MSC (mass storage class) device, such as a USB thumbdrive formatted in FAT16/32.. The CD60 can playback compressed MP3/WMA/AAC music files (up to 320kbps/48kHz); Apple Lossless ALAC music files (up to 24-bit/96kHz); Hi-Res WAV/FLAC/AIFF music files (up to 24-bit/192kHz);and DSD music files (up to 1-bit/5.6MHz) from a compatible USB device. The unit can recognize up to 255 folders and 65,025 total files.

Note: The USB-A port does not support Apple iOS or Android devices, Windows PC or Mac computers, and USB hubs or card-readers.

Analog & Digital Outputs: The marantz CD60 is outfitted with both analog & digital audio outputs. There is an analog stereo RCA output, one optical (toslink) digital output, and one coaxial (SPDIF) digital output.

Headphone Amplifier: The Marantz CD60 offers an improved and redesigned headphone amplifier section. The CD60 inherits the exclusive Marantz HDAM-SA2 circuit with three gain settings (Low/Mid/High) for a perfect match with almost any brand of headphones for an optimal solo listening experience. However, if you prefer, the headphone amp is also equipped with an “Off Circuit” function that automatically turns off the headphone amplifier when a headphone is not connected to the unit to avoid any unwanted interference or noise.

Single-Line Florescent Display: For optimum visual clarity, the CD60 features a single-line fluorescent display that features alphanumeric characters (up to 16) for song/artist/album information (no album art or CD-Text). The display is dimmable.

Remote Control: The supplied IR remote control features an easy to use ergonomic design and can control the CD60, as well as control a matching Marantz integrated stereo amplifier (sold separately). The remote can also be used to control your connected USB MSC device (thumbdrive). The CD player also includes a Remote Input/Output and Flasher Input.

  • Remote Input/Output: Two RCA jacks (1 In/1 Out) are provided for connecting the player and another Marantz AV component for system remote control purposes. The accompanying switch allows you to select the remote control mode you desire: External (when the player is connected to another component's remote control jacks) or Internal (when the player is used as a standalone component).
  • Flasher In: This 3.5mm minijack input is used to control this unit using an optional keypad (sold separately) from another room of your house.

Playback Functions: The Marantz CD player offers playback functions such as Play/Pause, Stop, Fast Forward/Rewind, Random/Repeat, Direct Search (0-9), and Program Play (25 tracks)

Auto Standby: With Auto Standby On, you can automatically set this unit to standby mode after the CD player is in stop-mode (no operation) continuously for approximately 30 minutes.

Customer Q&A

Q
Does the CD60 have a modestly "warm" sound that is typical of Marantz amplifiers, or is the CD60's sound fairly neutral? Thanks. Dennis

Hey Dennis, I'll just say that never owning a Marantz amp (Yamaha here) I have been so very pleased with the CD60. No objections to date, it certainly has meet my needs.Hope that help a little. DD

A
THE ADDITION OF THE CD60 TO MY SET UP MADE A DRAMATIC DIFFERENCE IN SOUND QUALITY. I HAD BEEN RUNNING A GRAPHIC EQUALIZER PRIOR AND NOW HAVE ELIMINATED IT . THE SOUND IS NOW CLEARER AND I CAN INCREASE VOLUME TO WAKE UP MY WHARFEDALES LIKE I NEVER COULD BEFORE. THE BASS CAN ACTUALLY BE FELT IN MY CHEST NOW. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT . IT WILL MAKE YOUR ENTIRE SYSTEM SEEM LIKE IT HAS BEEN UPGRADED . I WOULD NOT DESCRIBE IT AS BEING WARM OR NEUTRAL. IT IS ACCURATE AND POWERFUL AND NEVER FATIGUING. I HAD THE NAD CD PLAYER WHICH WAS A GOOD UNIT BUT THE MARANTZ IS IN A CLASS WAY ABOVE IT.

Sounds great warm and smooth

The CD60 seems to have a "full" sound, which separates it from players that might be too analytical, or sterile. It's been an excellent performer so far, with a very musical presentation. Hope this helps.

I have the CD 60 paired with the Marantz model 30 integrated amp. I am very happy with both of them. I went the Marantz route in an attempt to somewhat tame the treble on my new Bowers and Wilkins speakers. Mission accomplished. The CD60 is neutral to just slightly warm. Nothing artificial sounding. Highly recommended. I use AudioQuest McKenzie RCA for all my interconnections. Best of luck to you.

Not familiar w Marantz amps as I own a McIntosh, but the CD60 has a very warm sound. My fellow audiophile was trying to convince me to use a Sony BluRay player for CDs but was blown away by the richness of sound from the CD60.
william  Apr 16, 2023
A
Yes it is warm . I love it.
bryon c.  Apr 16, 2023

There are two filter choices. 1 is neutral, 2 is slightly warmer. Neither are harsh on PSB B600 / Parasound.

Greetings Dennis, and thank you for your question. Unfortunately we we do not have the facilities to do sound checks on all the equipment we carry. What I can do is reach out to the customer that purchased this from Crutchfield, and see if someone can answer this question better.

Q
Beyond a small improvement in S/N radio, I do not really see any difference between this unit and the Marantz CD6007. What is the benefit of selecting this unit? Thank you.
jimmy  Feb 11, 2023
1 answer
A
There are some benefits for sure, Jim. You do also get an improvement in dynamic range as, plus the heavier overall weight due to upgraded internal components means slight overall gains on playback quality overall compared side-by-side with the CD6007. If you have or planned to upgrade to a new Marantz Cinema series receiver, this CD60 matches perfectly!

Q
is there a volume control for the analog output on this unit and if it does is it on the remote?
james v  Oct 23, 2022
1 answer
A
The analog output volume is fixed and cannot be adjusted. There is a volume control on the remote, but it is only there for use with a compatible Marantz amplifier.
zachary  Oct 23, 2022 (Staff)
Q
What analog outputs does this have? Inconsistent info appears in different pages on this same product.

Greetings Mark, and thank you for your question. We do have an error on our details page and thank you for pointing this out. I will have the web team update that. It has RCA out on the back, as well as a headphone out on the front panel. Those are the two analog outputs.

Q
Wondering what the finish is really compared to. Is it close to brushed aluminum ?
randy  Sep 02, 2022
3 answers
A
The front-most panel is a slightly textured, somewhat like a fine powder coat, and aluminum in color. The panel behind that is slightly dimpled and patterned when light is shown onto it. I think that it would look good with another brushed aluminum component, if that is your concern. Mine is below a NAD grey 399c receiver inside a cabinet.

Yes,it is brushed aluminum finish, with gold fastening hardware
scott  Sep 03, 2022

Q
will this unit play music from an external hard drive?
antonio  Aug 31, 2022

A
It is possible to use an external hard drive. It will be necessary to use a dedicated power source for the hard drive.
