About the Marantz PM6007

Eric A.

A rock-solid amplifier

Marantz has been making this type of rugged, versatile integrated amp for years now, but they never rest on their laurels. The PM6007 builds on the legacy of its predecessors, upgrading the built-in 24-bit/192kHz digital-to-analog converter to ensure accurate, detailed playback of digital sources. And HDAM3 analog audio circuitry delivers faster signal transfer and better transient response.

Convenient connections

The PM6007 has plenty of back-panel connections for analog sources — five stereo RCA inputs, including a dedicated phono input for turntables with moving magnet cartridges. And there are two optical digital inputs and a single coaxial digital input for digital sources. A new filter mode lets you tailor the DAC's output to suit your listening preference.

Product Research

Features

Audio-Grade Sound Parts & Expert Tuning: Marantz maintains a steadfast reputation for choosing the best possible components for its Hi-Fi products, and the PM6007 is built with that same performance-first Hi-Fi approach. Marantz engineers selected and improved the PM6007 versus the previous PM6006 through extensive listening in dedicated Marantz facilities in Europe and Japan using Hi-Fi tuned sound parts. For example, increasing the size of the power supply capacitors by 20% improved stability during high demand listening sessions. Engineered and extensively tuned by a team drawing on more than 65 years of Hi-Fi expertise, the PM6007 provides exceptional performance for your digital or analog music collection.

Marantz HDAM-SA3 Technology: Marantz has developed their own discrete circuit boards to replace standard IC's. These HDAM's (Hyper Dynamic Amplifier Module) consist of discrete surface mount components with short mirror image L/R signal paths. These devices do exactly the same thing as the Op-amps, but outperform these solutions dramatically in terms of the Slew Rate and reduced noise level, resulting in more dynamic, accurate and detailed sound. In the PM6007, the HDAM-SA3 circuit improves on its previous module and the idling current stability is less influenced by power transistor temperatures to maintain sound performance even at high level output.

Current Feedback Amplifier: The Current Feedback Amplifier technology provides wide-bandwidth and high-speed sound reproduction. In combination with the high current power supply, the PM6007's amplifier section holds a large energy reserve to easily drive even the most demanding speakers. An advanced thermal compensation avoids memory distortion for clean amplification under any circumstances. The PM6007 integrated current feedback amplifier is rated at 45 watts 2 channels (into 8 ohms, @ 20Hz-20kHz, with 0.08% THD) or 60 watts x 2 channels (into 4 ohms, @20Hz-20kHz, with 0.08% THD)ence.

High Current Power Supply with Toroidal Transformer: The power supply supports high current, high speed Shottky Barrier Diodes and high current storage capacitors fed by a Toroidal Transformer that together provide wide dynamic range and low impedance drive capability. A Toroidal Transformer has several advantages over a normal EI core transformer. The highly efficient design delivers more power compared to the same size EI core transformer. In addition, the shape of the Toroidal Transformer delivers low electromagnetic radiation and mechanical vibration for better sound quality.

Reference Quality DAC with Selectable Filters: The PM6007 features a new Hi-Res D/A conversion. It is equipped with a reference class digital-to-analog converter (DAC), which provides up to 24-bit/192kHz resolution for optimum fidelity with your Hi-Res audio file types. The PM6007 introduces a new digital filter for its Optical and Coaxial inputs. This two-mode filter (Filter1/Filter2) allows optimized reproduction of digital music content using the reference class D/A converter to your taste. Filter 1 is a slow roll-off preset that improves deep stereo imaging and Filter 2 is a sharp roll-off filter for more precise imaging reproduction.

Tone Controls + Source Direct: You can manually adjust the integrated amplifier's Bass (50Hz) and Treble (15kHz) from -10dB to +10dB. You can also adjust the balance (L/R) of the connected speakers. In addition, there is a Source Direct function which ensures the shortest signal path and upmost fidelity by bypassing the tone and balance control circuitry for a straight path, delivering elevated sound purity.

Analog Line-Level Inputs/Output: The Marantz PM6007 integrated amplifier features four stereo RCA line-level analog inputs (labeled "CD", "Network", "Tuner" and "Recorder"), plus one stereo RCA line-level analog output.

MM Phono Input: The Marantz PM6007 integrated amplifier features a high-quality phono stage, leveraging the newly designed circuit introduced with the Marantz PM7000N - one that integrates a FET (field-effect transistors) in the input stage. This technology delivers high input impedance, eliminates the need for AC coupling capacitors, simplifies the signal path, and lowers distortion and noise which vastly improves the overall signal purity. The phono input supports turntables with a MM (moving magnet) cartridge installed.

Optical & Coaxial Digital Inputs: One coaxial (RCA) digital and two optical (toslink) digital inputs are available to connect digital devices and play back Hi-Res audio (up to 24-bit/192kHz PCM) through the PM6007's advanced audio circuitry. The complete digital section is fully shielded by an extra metal housing unit to ensure that the digital stage has no effect on the analogue signal.

Note: The optical & coaxial digital inputs do not support Dolby Digital, DTS, or other multichannel audio formats.

A & B Binding Post Speaker Terminals: Equipped with A & B speaker terminals, the PM6007 can drive two pairs of speakers, or it can be connected to one pair of bi-wiring compatible speakers, with one set of terminals for the low range drivers and the other set connected to the high range drivers The PM6007 is outfitted with eight gold-plated binding post terminals for long life and optimum signal transfer integrity. The binding posts will accept  bare-wire (up to 10AWG), pin-connectors, and banana plugs (single or dual). Use 4 to 8-ohm speakers when powering only one pair of speakers. Use 8-ohm speakers when powering two pair of speakers.

1/4" Headphone Jack: The Marantz PM6007 integrated amplifier features a front-panel 1/4" headphone jack to plug in your set of headphones. The integrated amp's connected speakers and sub out will automatically mute when headphones are plugged in.

Subwoofer Output: The Marantz PM6007 integrated amplifier supports an optional external subwoofer with a fixed low pass cut off frequency at 150Hz. Enjoy accurate bass with no audible peaks or dips, no matter where you place your subwoofer.

Remote Control: Featuring an easy to use ergonomic design, the elegant remote control can also be used to control the matching CD6007 CD player (sold separately). Remote input and output terminals (mono-RCA) let you connect the PM6007 to other Marantz components (such as the matching CD6007 CD player) for synchronized control. The The IR flasher port (3.5mm) lets you connect the PM6007 to an external IR remote repeater system in case the PM6007 is out of sight inside a cabinet.

Protection Circuit: The PM6007's Protection Circuit prevents damage to devices within the power supply when an abnormality such as an overload, excess voltage occurs or over temperature for any reason. If a malfunction occurs in this unit, the power indicator blinks red and the unit switches to standby mode.

Auto Standby Mode: With the Auto Standby Mode "On", this unit will automatically enter the Auto Standby Mode after approximately 30 continuous minutes of no output from the speakers or headphones.

Q
How would I play my FLAC files through this amps DAC?
steve  May 02, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Steve, and thank you for your question. Its going to be pretty tough as it does not have a USB input. Tom do FLAC and use this Marantz DAC which technically does not mention FLAC but is a 24/192 DAC, it would have to be coming in via the COAX, or Optical digital. So the device that has all your FLAC files would have to have either of those outputs. You might want to consider an Integrated amp with a USB input.

Q
When you run two sets of speakers from this amp at the same time, or bi-amp, are you truly getting double the power output, or does it have to mortgage the existing power a bit?
ryan m  Apr 30, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Ryan, and thank you for your question. You typically bi-amp home theater receivers because they can allocate low frequencies out a channel, and high frequencies out another. A stereo amplifier cannot do that. If you did attempt bi amping this amp, you would damage your tweeters, because essentially bi amping bypasses the speakers built in crossovers. What you can do with this amp is bi wiring, which is different that bi amping. Bi wiring cross's over the frequencies in the wire itself, not the amp or the speaker.

Q
Have preamplifier connected to RT85 turntable. What PM 6007 RCA in connection should I plug into? Should I use phono RCA connection?
arthur m  Mar 21, 2023
1 answer
A
You would only want to use the Phono in RCA and grounding stud if you are NOT using a separate turntable preamp, Arthur. IF you are using a phono preamp with your RT85 deck you will want to use any of the available line inputs via RCA (CD, Network, Tuner, or Recorder). I hope this helps!

Q
What subwoofer can I hook up to this unit? Any recommendations?
michael  Feb 27, 2023
1 answer
A
This sweet Marantz PM6007 Stereo integrated amplifier has a mono subwoofer RCA output, Michael. You can connect pretty much any subwoofer you choose! Scope out this SVS SB-2000 Pro in the handy link below. This is a powerful sealed subwoofer that would be perfect for 2-channel music enjoyment, and the 550-watt amp built in packs quite a punch! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_946SB2KPBA/SVS-SB-2000-Pro-Black-Ash.html

Q
Can I hook up a pair of KLH model three speakers with 6 ohms to this reciever?
michael  Feb 22, 2023
1 answer
A
Absolutely, and I think that would make a nice setup Michael! Since no 6-ohm numbers are listed in the specifications from Marantz we cannot determine the exact wattage, but most likely around the 50 to 52-watt range. This would be perfect for a bookshelf like the model 3, and you can count on having the warm music playback Marantz is well-known for.

Q
I am connecting my mac mini m1 to this amp, but I want to use this internal DAC instead of the desktop's one. What type of connection can I use(I don't see any usb to optical or usb to coaxial cable on the market)? If I use 3.5mm jack to RCA it will use the mac mini's DAC right so how do I connect it?
david  Feb 06, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings David, and thank you for your question. A USB input on your integrated amplifier is the best solution, but seeing as you already have the Marantz, and there is no USB input on it, the next best option is an external DAC. If you come out your mac mini analog, you are using the DAC built into the mac mini. If you purchased the Marantz from Crutchfield, we have a 60 day satisfaction guaranty. If it does not meet your needs we can take it back, refund you, or switch to an amp that has the USB in. If you need help finding an external DAC because you are keeping the Marantz, please call one of our advisors at 800-324-9695 and we can find you a DAC that will work for your mac mini.

Q
Look at the spec says pre out low-pass crossover at 150Hz. If I set my sub crossover at 80HZ how does that work? Speaker receive full range or how can I set cutting low frequency only play on subwoofer cuz it will produce too much bass from both speaker and subwoofer?
wade  Jan 11, 2023
1 answer
A
The speakers will still receive full-range signal when a subwoofer is connected. It is possible to set the crossover on the subwoofer itself lower (at 80Hz, for example) with no issues.
zachary  Jan 11, 2023 (Staff)
Q
It says it has hook ups for two sets of speakers. Can I play both sets at the same time? Also can I use only the A speakers or the B speakers just by pushing a button?
thomas anthony  Aug 12, 2022
1 answer
A
Greetings Thomas, and thank you for your question. Yes the Marantz can run 4 speakers at the same time, or have A on, B off, B on and A off, or A and B at the same time. via buttons on the front panel. All 4 speakers would need to be the typical 8 ohm or higher impedance.
thomas  Aug 12, 2022 (Staff)
Q
Does the subwoofer out get filtered at a specific frequency by this amp or does it output full frequency? And does it cut our those frequencies from the speakers when in use?
michael  Jun 24, 2022
1 answer
A
This does have a low-pass crossover at 150Hz for the subwoofer output. Speakers still receive full-range frequency.
zachary  Jun 24, 2022 (Staff)
