Sweet stereo sound

Nothing compares to the purity of sumptuous stereo sound. The Marantz PM8006 integrated amplifier specializes in delivering music accurately, with lifelike stereo imaging and lots of clean power.

A large toroidal transformer is adept at handling dynamic peaks in music. This amp is conservatively rated at 70 watts per channel into 8-ohm loads, but it can drive even power-hungry 4-ohm speakers to room-filling volumes.

Built to please

Build quality is just what you'd expect from Marantz: rock-solid, with a triple-layer bottom plate to minimize vibration-induced distortion. It's a sturdy foundation for a glorious stereo system that lets you get more enjoyment out of your music. Six RCA inputs, including a moving magnet phono connection, let you connect various sources, from CD players to turntables to network streaming boxes through your external digital-to-analog converter.

Defeatable tone controls and expandable system options

Dial in your perfect sound using the PM8006's front-panel tone controls for treble, bass, and midrange. Or enable Source Direct mode to bypass these controls for cleaner sound. If you like to keep your upgrade options open, there are preamp outputs for connection to an external power amp to feed even more juice to your speakers. Or if you'd like to beef up the current supplied to the front speakers of your surround sound setup, you can connect your home theatre receiver's main preamp outputs to the Power Amp Direct inputs on the PM8006. This allows you to enjoy enveloping surround sound for movies and TV shows without sacrificing power and tone when listening to stereo music.

Product Research

Stereo Integrated Amplifier: With a fully discrete current feedback design, the PM8006 stereo integrated amplifier is perfect for audiophiles wanting excellent music quality. The PM8006 is conservatively rated at 70 watts per channel into 8, and 100 watts per channel into 4 (20-20kHz @ 0.06%) for compatibility with the widest range of loudspeakers.

  • Current Feedback Amplification: Marantz proprietary current-feedback circuit, using discrete components, is adopted in the pre-amplifier and power amplifier. Current Feedback amplification is a well-known, Marantz-original circuit technology, suiting perfectly the requirements of high-resolution audio with wide-bandwidth and high-speed reproduction. The impedance at the Current Feedback point is limited resulting in a very low phase shift, meaning Marantz Current Feedback amplifiers reduce the need for phase compensation via Negative FeedBack (NFB) to a minimum. This simplified signal path results in high through-rate, excellent transient response, and superb sonic transparency across the full bandwidth. Unlike conventional Voltage Feedback topology, Current Feedback also makes the power amplifier insensitive to difficult loudspeaker loads.
  • Marantz HDAM Technology: Marantz developed its own discrete circuit boards, called Hyper-Dynamic Amplifier Modules, or HDAMs, to replace the chip based amps used elsewhere. Using discrete surface mount components with short mirror-image left and right signal paths, HDAMs outperform the regular integrated Op-amps dramatically in Slew Rate and noise level, resulting in a much more dynamic, accurate and detailed sound. The PM8006 employs multiple HDAM-SA3(s) to deliver dynamic and detailed sound quality.

Toroidal Transformer: The Marantz PM8006 integrated amplifier utilizes a large double-shielded Toroidal transformer. A Toroidal transformer has several advantages over a normal EI core transformer. It is very efficient and therefore delivers more power compared to the same size of an EI core transformer. In addition, due to its shape, the electromagnetic radiation and the mechanical vibration are extremely low all ending in a better sound quality.

  • Momentary-Current Supply: The PM8006's main amp has the capability to momentarily pass 45 amps or more, providing high-powered drive to the speakers.
  • Short Power Line: To improve the momentary-current supply, the large current line connections are as short as possible, while remaining symmetrical. The individual power supply segments are located on the same heat sinks as the output transistors for quicker response to musical transients.

Rigid Chassis: The amplifier's chassis uses a triple-layer bottom plate to insure long-term alignment and vibration control. The unit's front panel uses a combination of aluminum and glass-reinforced resin to create a distinctive three dimensional appearance. To further remove interference, new isolating feet are used to support the amplifier.

High-Quality Volume Control: The PM8006 integrated amplifier uses a new Marantz-designed electric volume control for high linearity and best-in-class channel separation. This newly developed electric volume control, using the latest volume control IC, offers better channel separation, dynamic range and distortion-reduction - while retaining the operational feel of an analog volume control device.

Marantz Musical Phono EQ: The PM8006 features a Phono (MM) input and is equipped with Marantz's new Musical Phono EQ stage for optimal sound quality from your vinyl recordings. The Marantz Musical Phono EQ uses two-stage amplification, allowing less gain per stage, for lower distortion. It also uses the company's HDAMs combined with JFETs (junction gate field-effect transistors) in the input stage, giving a high input impedance. This allows the deletion of the AC coupling capacitors previously used providing a simpler signal path for the tiny output from a phono cartridge, improving signal purity. The Marantz Musical Phono EQ stage's re-equalization process is split into passive and active sections, for more accurate equalization - the RIAA correction is carried out within an HDAM, while amplification is in the hands of a high-quality op-amp, running in Class A mode for minimal distortion and delivering a clean and open sound.

CD Direct Buffer Amp: An input buffer amplifier exclusive for CD is mounted near the CD input RCA jacks. This is a high-speed buffer amplifier made with discrete components, which avoids interference between right and left channels and can send the signals to the pre-amplifier with very high fidelity.

Analog Inputs & Outputs: In addition to the Phono (MM) input, the PM8006 is equipped with five other analog Stereo RCA audio inputs (CD/Network/Tuner/Aux/Recorder), plus an analog stereo RCA audio output for connecting a recording device. There's also a power amp direct input that lets you use the PM8006 as a standalone stereo power amplifier for additional system configuration versatility, along with a stereo pre-amp output that let you connect the PM8006 to an external power amplifier.

Heavy-Duty Binding Post Speaker Terminals (A/B): Equipped with two set of speaker outputs, the PM8006 can drive two pairs of speakers or it can be connected to one pair of bi-wiring compatible speakers, with one set of terminals for the low range drivers and the other set connected to the high range drivers. These heavy-duty, binding-post speaker terminals are made of brass with a thick silver plating for the best possible contact with your speaker cables. The main speaker output terminals are mounted lower, and thus closer to the main circuit board, to reduce the signal path. The binding posts will accept bare wire (up to 10AWG), pin-connectors, and banana plugs (single only).

Note: Use 4 to 8-ohm speakers when powering only one pair of speakers. Use 8-ohm speakers when powering two pair of speakers.

1/4" Headphone Jack: The Marantz PM8006 features a front-panel 1/4" headphone jack for connecting a set of headphones. You'll need to manually turn off A/B speakers.

Tone Control + Source Direct: For precise sound tailoring, the PM8006's triple tone control system provides separate controls for the Bass (50Hz), Midrange (900Hz) and Treble (15kHz). These tone controls let you fine tune the spectral balance to your preference and is especially useful with older recordings that suffer from tonal imbalance. You can also select the Direct mode, so the audio signal does not pass through the tone adjustment circuitry, resulting in playback of a higher sound quality.

Remote Control: The included IR remote control features an ergonomic layout for wireless operation of the integrated amplifier. It can also be used to control accompanying Marantz source players (such as a SACD or Network player). In addition remote control input  and output jacks let you directly connect the PM8006 to other Marantz components for easy system control (the remote input and output consist of a mono-RCA jack).

Auto Standby: With the Auto Standby Mode turned on, this unit will enter standby mode after approximately 30 minutes (continuous) of no output from the speakers or headphones.

Customer Q&A

22 questions already asked

Can you hook up an external EQ to this through the pre-out and direct in? If so, does it work automatically or do you have to enable the power amp mode? Thanks
seth  Oct 14, 2023
1 answer
Greetings Seth. Great question. You might want to run this by Marantz, but I am thinking its not going to work quite like a main in/preout does. Technically you can make the connections to an EQ, however with an actual main in/preout you would be able to control the volume using that Integrated amp. With this Marantz you would have to switch it to power amp mode, and there you would lose any control over the volume. Im thinking if you wanted to use an EQ, get an integrated amp with the main in/preout.

Can A and B speakers be selected to play at the same time on the Marantz PM8006?
brian  Mar 15, 2023
1 answer
Absolutely, Brian. You will need to make sure to use 8-ohm speakers when powering two pair of speakers with the Marantz PM8006. Selecting your speaker bank is super easy on the Marantz with the illuminated front panel touch buttons!
bo  Mar 15, 2023 (Staff)
my speakers respond to up to 50kHz, will this amp provide signals at this high frequency?
jeff  Jan 20, 2023
1 answer
Greetings Jeff, and thank you for your question. Most amplifiers including the Marantz PM8006 have a range of 20-20K. Basically frequencies that can he audible to the human ear. Many speakers are capable of playing much higher than 20K, and the reason for that is they will not distort when they get 20K sent to them.
hogan  Jan 21, 2023 (Staff)
Can you tell me what the safe clearance above this amp should be to allow it to "breath" safely?
ron  Oct 17, 2022
1 answer
According to Marantz, they simply stipulate to "not block any venting". Since this is a stackable unit if you were planning to install it in a stack physically the 1-2 inches or so between components would be fine for the hot air to move up and out of the unit. IF you are installing this sweet PM8006 in a cabinet, I would probably have at least the same amount of clearance at that 1-2 inch mark as a minimum. If you are locating this in a sealed cabinet, glass front, or other location where the hot air cannot escape you may need to add a low-profile fan to aid in cooling for high volume or long listening sessions. This ATM cool-it in the link below is pretty good for sealed environments as it blows down onto the component to provide added fresh air, and it can fit in a tight spot!

how do I hook up a dac?

This unit is already analog, why would you need a digital to analog converter? Now if the question you are really asking is how do I get this unit to work with digital then what I have done is get the matching Marantz PM8006 which I have done. They make a great combination.
james  Dec 27, 2021
DAC output is analog, and goes into network analog input on integrated amplifier.
arthur  Dec 26, 2021
Use the Aux rca input.
todd  Dec 26, 2021
This amp has RCA inputs on the back so you'll you'll need a pair of RCA cables going from your DAC output to the input on the amp. If your DAC doesn't have RCA outputs, you may also need some type of converter to convert your DAC output to RCA.

Yes Recorder in / out (RCA jacks)
raymond  Mar 22, 2021
I am not the best person to ask as I do not use a tape recorder. But, I do not see any indication on the amp that it does.
walter h  Mar 21, 2021
It has an aux input that used rca cables. So yes I do believe it will work.
todd  Mar 21, 2021
Yes it does, It has recorder in and out RCA jacks.
james  Mar 21, 2021
Yes. A recorder tape input and a recorder tape output.

can I use this amp with the Yamaha DSP-A1 AVR?
paul  Jan 23, 2021
1 answer
I would assume that as long as you have a "pre-out" on the Yamaha it out work.
tom  Jan 23, 2021
Can I use a 2-channel amp by connecting it to the Recorder Audio Outputs? I know that, generally, one is supposed to connect a separate power amp to L & R Pre-Outs, but I was wondering if this was possible with an output that's not officially listed as a pre-out.
elias  Nov 05, 2020
2 answers
Hi Elias, no, I don't believe that doing this will have the effect that you desire. The problem is that signal coming out of the record audio outputs is of a fix amplitude; the volume control doesn't affect the amplitude of the signal from the record audio outputs. You would have to use the preamp outputs.
clifford  Nov 19, 2020
I have this amp and I wouldn't use the Recorder Out like a Pre-amp because the Recorder Out has a constant signal level with no volume control. OTOH, the Pre-amp Out signal level does have volume control. Hope that helps
chris  Nov 05, 2020
If the power per channel of the AVR is higher then this integrated amp, does it make sense to use this unit as a power amp? Also using this unit as the power amp will i lose the marantz tone color? Thanks.

In short, adding an amp like this one will improve the power and clarity of the sound for the speakers connected to it as well as the speakers still powered by the AV receiver.
jason  Oct 25, 2020 (Staff)
Yes. This will be a better power amp than nearly any AVR amp. Using this as power amp means the AVR acts as a pre-amp. I use the Marantz PM8006 as the power amp for the front speakers for movies. For music the integrated pre-amp, power amp of the PM8006 will beat any AVR system.
arthur  Oct 22, 2020
If I'm using PM8006 in power amp mode to integrate with my existing AVR, can I still connect an external power amp to PM8006 via the pre outs?
gregory  Mar 03, 2020

Would this unit make a good addition to the Marantz 5013 to add it to the main L & R while running my turntable into the PM 8006 and driving the front main speakers with it? JBL 4306 6 ohm
trey  Aug 20, 2019

That Marantz PM 8006 would be a great amp to run a 2-channel setup for a turntable. Were you hoping to connect the JBL speakers to both Marantz units at the same time? Or just switch the speaker wire?

I am using my 8006 with Klipsch, Frazier and BA speakers. It is better than my Fisher 500c and Macintosh 4275. It is excellent.
jay  Mar 19, 2019
I am not familiar with the power requirements of the B&W line, thus you will have to decide if you will have enough headroom. That being said I am very satisfied with the PM 8006. It is a strong integrated amp with a very pleasing and dynamic sound. FYI I am using it to power very efficient Klipsch Heresy speakers.

12 pairs of speakers? No.
arthur  Apr 01, 2020
The Marantz PM8006 integrated amp features 6 stereo RCA audio inputs to connect your audio components, such as a CD player. However since the amp is just 2-channels you'd probably want to look into an alternate solution for 12 pairs of speakers. For more details on that please contact an Advisor directly by phone (888.955.6000) or online chat. Thanks!

Does Marantz PM 8006 have enough power and current to extract full performance of my Monitor Audio RX-6 tower speakers? (sensitvity: 89db , impedance: nominal: 6 Ohms, minimum: 4,2 Ohms)
bones  Feb 12, 2018
2 answers
Convert power in Watts to dBWatts. 70 Watts is about 18dBW. 89dB SPL @ 1W plus 18dB is 107dB SPL. THX standard level is 85dB SPL at -20dB full scale at the listening position, or about 105dB SPL maximum at the listening position. Speaker sensitivity is rated @ 2.83V (1W into 8 ohms) a 1 meter. SPL is reduced -6dB for each doubling of distance. So, the Marantz PM8006 can produce about 101dB SPL @ 2m in front of one of your Monitor Audio RX-6s it can output 70W into it. The specs in the manual say PM8006 can output 100W (20dBW) into 4 ohms. You need to determine how loud is loud enough for you.
