About the Posi-Products™ Car Stereo Wiring Harness Connectors

Buck Pomerantz
Posi-Products connectors help make your electrical connections fast, easy, and reliable with no crimping, soldering, or messy tape. Just strip your stranded wires, insert them in the caps, and then hand tighten the two caps together — the wire ends get locked between opposing cone shapes to create a water-, dirt-, vibration-, and heat-proof housing. You get a strong, low-resistance electrical connection, and you can reuse the connectors, too.

The Mobile Electronics Series Connector Kits come with various assortments of special Posi-Lock® and Posi-Tap™ connectors to integrate your aftermarket equipment into your vehicle's electrical system. Experienced installers have selected the contents of each kit carefully, so you can be sure you'll have all the right connectors necessary to get the job done.

This Car Stereo Connector Kit comes with 16 Posi-Twist™ connectors — enough to hook up the speakers, power, and accessories in most car stereo installations. Warranty: 60 days.

Customer Q&A

12 questions already asked

Q
Is there a difference between these and regular wire nuts?
g  Jan 10, 2024
1 answer
A
There is, G.G. The two-piece design of the Posi-Products connectors create a firmer connection that will not loosen over time with vibration and is a much better choice for car stereo wiring duties than standard twist-style wire nuts more commonly used in home electrical wiring. These size Posi's are excellent for radio and speaker wiring work, and you can choose the multi-pack in the link below if you have larger sizes of wire to connect. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_669PP611/Posi-Products-Wire-Connectors.html

Q
Does crutchfield still do the prewiring for the car stereos?

A
If you're ordering a new radio and a complete vehicle-specific installation kit, then we are able to offer our ReadyHarness prewire service on most vehicles. For help with determining if this is available for your vehicle, please reach out to our advisors via online chat or phone at 1-800-324-9695.

Q
What is the advantage of these (cost more) over crimp connectors which keep the wire straight and can provide a watertight seal?
ryan  Jun 29, 2021

A
Crimp connectors are not water tight. I tried these connectors for the first time, and was satisfied with their security. In some spaces, a straight connection may not always be desirable.
harriette  Jul 13, 2021
A
Don't need a crimper and easy to change incorrect wire hookups. Can reuse the crimp connectors. The only downside is that they are bulkier.

Q
I'm wiring up a new head unit. How many wires can these connect together? Between my head unit, vehicle harness, factory amp, MicroBypass, and steering wheel controls, I have 5 ground connections that need to be tired together. Would a single connector hold those together?
dennis  Apr 16, 2021
3 answers
A
No. 2, maybe 3. For 5, just go to Lowes, HD, Ace, etc. and get a red or yellow wire nut. Make sure those are taped up tight. Don't want any ground feedback.
carl  Apr 16, 2021
A
No, a single connector wouldn't work.
troy  Apr 16, 2021
A
I wouldnt chance it. These are very small and 5 wires are a lot for one. They are perfect for splicing wires on a harness, but 5 is asking too much of them. Better off soldering them all

A
Hard to say as it will depend on the size of the wires. Probably not 5 wires unless they are pretty small. Just use a regular wire nut and tape it on after so it can't vibrate loose with your kick ass jams..
steven  Apr 16, 2021
Q
Can you use this to connect one wire to the middle of another wire (like a T-tap connection)?
james  Dec 14, 2020
1 answer
A
These connectors join the ends of wires together. Posi-Products does make tap connectors which will connect wires like you described and you can find the tap connectors here: https://www.crutchfield.com/shopsearch/posi_tap.html

Q
Will this work with guitar pickup wire, which is usually between 42-45awg?
dave  Jun 03, 2020
1 answer
A
As long as it fits I'm sure it could work. However this is definitely not it's intended use. It is fairly cheap so if it doesn't work your not out a lot. I am also the type that tries new ideas. If you go with it I hope it works Okey for you.

Q
Will one box be enough to wire everything if you bought a new head unit and harness for your steering wheel?
michael  Jan 13, 2019
1 answer
A
I think I would go for two packs. They're pretty inexpensive and better a few left over than not enough.
geoff  Jan 13, 2019
Q
Do you need these with the wire harness that you can buy specific to your vehicle?
greg  Dec 28, 2015

A
i did not use those, i soldered the cables together (most secured)
gustavo  Jul 25, 2016
A
You do not specifically NEED them, but they are very much worth the purchase, ESPECIALLY if you are wiring a steering wheel adapter up also and made a few wiring mistakes. It makes rewiring painless, just unscrew it.
amir  May 07, 2016
A
NO but they make the wiring a lot easier.
john bryan  Dec 29, 2015
Q
What amperage/wattage are these connectors rated for? I'm assuming at least 10A at 12V?
joshuo  Sep 02, 2014

A
True
kress  Sep 02, 2014
A
I think 10a would be fine . I used these on speaker wire mainly. Then solder power wires
terrance m  Sep 02, 2014
A
I used them on a 20 A. Works just fine.
randy  Sep 02, 2014
Q
What gauge are the connectors?
veronica  Jun 05, 2014
3 answers
A
Works well with 16 gauge and below. I used it mainly for head unit connections, which sometimes require re-wiring, so it was convenient. I tried using it on 14 gauge Monster Cable speaker wires, but it barely fit and the connection didn't seem secure. Hope this helps.
nestor  Jun 08, 2014

About 14 ga typical car radio wiring
troy  Jun 07, 2014
A
These are not meant for larger gauge wires - anything 18ga and below will work with these. I personally didn't care for them after installing so I stripped them off and ended up soldering the wires and using heat shrink tubing to cover.
