Product Research

Features

VM 310 Video Upgrade Module: The VM 310 Video Upgrade Module adds the latest HDMI 2.0b specification and the option for BluOS and AirPlay 2 to NAD's T187, T 777, T 787, and T 778 AV receivers or NAD's M15HD and M17 V2 preamplifiers.

Note: Installation of the VM 310 module is to be done by dealer or service center (labor charges may apply). If installation is attempted by the end user and problems arise, the end user is responsible for all repair costs plus shipping and handling costs. NAD is not liable due to installation errors.

HDMI 2.0b: The NAD VM 310 is equipped with five HDMI 2.0b inputs, one HDMI 2.0b output, and one HDMI 1.4a output. Employing the latest UHD video chipsets and HDMI 2.0b, the VM 310 supports 4K/60Hz @ 4:4:4 in order to fully support all current and future UHD formats. The VM 310 also supports HDR (High Dynamic Range) video, including Dolby Vision. In addition, it supports HDCP 2.2 which is the copy encryption used for UHD video and is required to watch 4K contents. Like past NAD MDC video modules, the VM 310 does not alter the video signal by either adding or subtracting valuable information, thus leaving the frame rate and colour space unaltered from the input to the output. The HDMI audio signal is extracted for processing and amplification by the latest state-of-the-art High Resolution Audio circuitry.

  • 4K/60Hz: The VM 310 supports up to 4K (3840x2160 pixels) video @ 60 frames per second on all of its HDMI 2.0b inputs and output (pass-through only with no upscaling). It will also pass a 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, or 1080p video signals via HDMI.
  • HDCP 2.2: All of the receiver's HDMI 2.0b jacks support HDCP 2.2, which fully complies with the latest copyright protection standard for 4K video transmission.
  • 4:4:4 Color Subsampling: All of the receiver's HDMI 2.0b jacks support RGB, YCbCr 4:4:4, YCbCr 4:2:2, and YCbCr 4:2:0 color subsampling (@ 60Hz or 50Hz). With 4:4:4 color subsampling, luminance (brightness) and chroma (color) are sampled at the same rate; resulting in an RGB color palette as big as the video sampling rate for a video image with more colors, plus greater color accuracy and detail.
  • High Dynamic Range (HDR): High Dynamic Range (HDR) provides enhanced picture quality by simultaneously enabling greater detail for both the dark and bright parts of an image. HDR reproduces a greater dynamic range of luminosity or brightness levels, creating greater contrast. This increased contrast reveals the subtle nuances of the image, from detailed blacks and shadows to the brightest whites and colors, plus greater depth. The receiver supports HDR 10 & Dolby Vision (not compatible with HLG).

Note: Installing the VM 310 disables all analog videinput decoding from Composite, S-Video and Component Video Sources.

eARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel): This feature of the MDC module's main HDMI monitor output allows audio to be sent from your compatible TV to the NAD AV receiver through the same HDMI cable already being used to send audio and video to your TV. This eliminates the need for extra cables connected to your television. eARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel) will support uncomprerssed audio formats like Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, & DTS HD Master Audio - where as the previous ARC (Audio Return Channel) was limited to only Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, DTS, DTS HD, and PCM.

Note: Supported content will be dependent on whether your TV features a HDMI eARC or ARC jack.

BluOS-Ready: The NAD VM 310's also adds the option of integrating BluOS Hi-Res multiroom audio into your NAD system with support for variety of online music services, MQA, Bluetooth and AirPlay 2. You will need to purchase NAD's BluOS kit (sold separately) which plugs into the VM 310's USB-A Port.

  • Online Music Services: the NAD BluOS Kit lets you access select online music services & internet radio. The The free Bluesound Controller App will serve as the controller for these apps and provide song/artist information with Album Art.
  • MQA (Master Quality Authenticated): Bluesound is the first wireless multiroom audio system to support MQA (Master Quality Authenticated). MQA is a revolutionary end-to-end technology that captures and delivers master quality audio in a file that's small enough to stream or download. Bluesound worked closely with MQA to implement technology inside each Bluesound component to ensure the listener will hear MQA encoded music and streams exactly like the source and the way the artist intended you to hear it when it was approved in the studio. It also supports FLAC, WAV, AIFF, ALAC, WMA Lossless, WMA, AAC, MP3, and OGG.
  • Bluetooth 4.0: The NAD BluOS Kit features built-in Bluetooth 4.0 with support for wireless music streaming from your Bluetooth-enabled Apple iPod/iPhone/iPad, Android smartphone/tablet, Windows PC/Phone, Mac computer/laptop, and more. You'll be able to stream stored music and music apps on your Bluetooth-enabled device to your compatible NAD receiver or preamplifier. You can even distribute Bluetooth audio to the rest of your Bluesound wireless audio system throughout your home or office over WiFi.

AirPlay 2 with Siri: The optional NAD BluOS kit (sold separately) also enables AirPlay 2 with Siri. AirPlay 2 is an advanced and easy-to-use wireless multiroom audio platform for iTunes, Apple Music, and other compatible Apple iOS apps. With AirPlay 2 you can play any sound from your Apple iOS device (running iOS 11.4 or later) or Mac computer (running OS X 10.13.2) on a compatible NAD receiver/preamplifier and other compatible BluOS and AirPlay 2 speakers throughout your home. You can choose to play audio in one room, play the same audio in grouped rooms, or play the same audio in every room. If you are an Apple Music subscriber, you can even play different music in different rooms (you can control and group directly from Apple's Music App and Home app on your Apple iOS device). In addition, you can watch videos and movies from YouTube and Netflix on your compatible Apple iOS device or Mac computer with perfectly synced audio on the NAD receiver/preamplifier. You will also be able to ask Siri-enabled devices (like your Apple iPhone, iPad, or Watch) to control playback of your Apple Music on the NAD receiver. With AirPlay 2, you also get to see song/artist information and album art via the receiver/preamplifier's on-screen menu (not front-panel display).

Note: If you have older Bluesound or BluOS product, you can still group Gen 2i Bluesound and newer products with older Bluesound products in the BluOS App to add AirPlay 2 compatibility to your entire BluOS system.

Ethernet Port For Control Integration: The VM 310 is also outfitted with an Ethernet Jack (RJ-45) to connect to your home network for IP and 3rd party control. With your PC and your compatible NAD receiver or preamplifier on the same network, it allows remote control of the NAD receiver/preamplifier via compatible external controllers - such as Control 4 Crestron, URC, Lutron, Elan, and more.

Modular Design Construction: The advantages of a pure digital system are many, but one drawback is the constantly changing delivery formats for digital content. Each of these formats typically requires specialized hardware and software, often with licensed IP and content copy protection. For this reason, NAD places all digital interface circuitry on easily upgradable modules. NAD calls this 'Modular Design Construction' or 'MDC'.

If you are asking about this module needing a firmware update, it does not. Once installed, it will start working as described. If you are asking about another NAD product, I recommend contacting an advisor by calling 1-800-324-9695 to check it

Yes, the installation is simple. But, you have to have a computer, serial port and serial cable to update the firmware. Dave

A
I don't recommend it.. Equipment is sensitive to static discharge. Safer to utilize your nearest authorized repair station.
