Disappointed in Both Product and Crutchfield
Richard from PORT SAINT LUCIE, FL on 6/30/2025
2012 Acura TSX
Very Disappointing - Bluetooth Failed, No Support from Crutchfield. I had high hopes for the Maestro RR2, but the Bluetooth flashing stopped working not long after installation. This is a key feature, and without it, the device is basically crippled. I contacted Crutchfield, expecting some kind of support given how much I've spent with them over the years - but was told the warranty only lasts one year. For a premium product from a trusted retailer, that's really disappointing. I expected better from both the product and the company. Not worth the investment if it can't last beyond the short warranty.
Pros: Great Integration (When It Works) - Offers deep integration with factory vehicle systems when functioning properly.
Cons: Bluetooth Flashing Stopped Working - One of the main features failed prematurely, making updates and changes impossible. Short Warranty Period - Only covered for one year, with no support afterward, even for loyal customers. Expensive for Its Reliability - Not acceptable for a premium-priced module to fail so soon. Customer Service Disappointment - Crutchfield wouldn't replace or assist after the warranty expired, despite prior loyalty and spend.

More headaches than it's worth for me...
Lauren from CLIFTON PARK, NY on 6/23/2025
2013 Toyota Prius C
I mean.... it works... sometimes. Yeah I know there's support for this but after installing it and noticing that the harness by them has a connector on it that is not correct and has no connector on the car itself, I just decided to give up on it. I had to take the red power line on the main power plug for the Toyota radio and just splicing it in to the red accessory line on the Pioneer's plug because the radio just wouldn't turn on otherwise. Could I pay someone $200 to install it? Sure. I guess I just really don't want to anymore. I thought it would be good to have this but seeing how unstable it seems to be, I'd rather just not bother. I'll unhook it and then plug in my amp back to the Prius instead like I had previously.

Almost perfect vehicle integration with a few misses
Russell from Broomfield, CO on 6/19/2025
2017 Toyota Highlander Hybrid
This unit is almost perfect. It preserves nearly all the steering wheel functions of our 2017 Toyota Highlander Hybrid, it's easy to flash the software, it has bluetooth connectivity for wireless flashing, it's simple to make all the necessary connections, and the small form factor allows a good fit behind the dashboard. However, it does not integrate the OEM microphone, it does not produce the desired radio "scan" feature that I programmed into it, there is no ability to monitor the hybrid engine function or MPG on the radio screen, and it is a bit expensive. I called Crutchfield about the "scan" function and they advised me that the combination of this iDatalink unit in my vehicle paired with the Pioneer DMH-WT6000NEX will only allow the steering wheel tune button to either choose radio presets or manually change radio stations incrementally, no scanning to next available station. Scan is available on the radio touchscreen, the Pioneer microphone sounds great on calls, and both the hybrid and MPG info is available on the small panel between the gauges behind steering wheel so everything remains fully functional in the vehicle. But at this price point, these limitations are a bit disappointing. Crutchfield tells me OEM microphone integration is something that's being worked. So maybe it will be available with a firmware update? Perhaps other features might also become available in the future? All in all, I'm very happy with this setup.
Pros: Preserves nearly all the steering wheel functions, easy to flash the software, bluetooth connectivity for wireless flashing, simple to make all the necessary connections, small form factor
Cons: No OEM microphone integration, no radio "scan" from steering wheel, no hybrid or MPG monitoring for my vehicle, high price

RR2 connected to Jensen CAR714MW
Crutchfield customer from FOLSOM, CA on 6/10/2025
2013 Kia Optima
This is the brain needed to make the Jensen CAR714MW and my 2013 Kia Optima SX w/ Infinity UVO external amp to work. The brain needs the correct harness and also the analog to SPDIF module to get my steering wheel controls and digital amp to work. RR2 and the Jensen are designed to work together. They pair up to add Engine Status and Tire TPS to the screen. The Climate system does not seem to be available at this firmware level. There is a USB module for my car but it is pricey, $60, and still leaves you the Car-Play USB-A to deal with. I cut a USB-C cable and put male pins on the end that fit the OEM female pins. End result is the Jensen USB is on the OEM female USB-A just like it was. Maestro planned a Mic module for late 2024 but it never was released. I had to use the separate mic supplied in the kit. Works but has that "add on" look. First you must "flash" the firmware of the RR2. The cable, software and instructions are supplied. You follow the prompt and describe your car so it knows what to do. Should be no problem for a DIY. Next but not shouted out by any instructions is to upgrade the firmware in the Jensen. This not uncommon for things you buy today. It is easy to do, so do it early. I found out after putting my dash back together. The hardest thing about this kit is removing and reinstalling the dash sections. My only complaint is the Maestro docs are not schematics. I wanted to add a front camera and had to slit the harness and add a splice for the came

iDatalink Maestro RR2 Interface Module
Roland from CA on 4/22/2025
2013 Ford F-250 Super Duty
The RR2 module made installing a Kenwood easy, although it takes some time to figure out the iData instructions. They are confusing and not vehicle specific. And the fact the kit comes with several wire bundles, brackets and screws that are not used, further complicates the install. They should send only the required wires, mounting brackets, and screws that are specific to the vehicle. That would eliminate trying to figure out what is actually needed and what could be thrown away.
Pros: Easy plug and play. Keeps factory controls, including steering wheel buttons, climate control, vehicle settings, and stock amplifier. It also adds selectable gauges, like tire pressure, voltage, RPM, speed, a zero to 60 calculator, transmission, temperature, torque values, and many other options.
Cons: The instructions are complicated and when trying to program via Bluetooth, you still need to connect power to the module which requires you to remove the dash to access it

It took just a bit of reading the understand the process but was a breeze for the install. I would recommend using the install kit to make life easy for any aftermarket install! Once the firmware is installed via your PC, you can use a smartphone app over Bluetooth to make any tweaks! No pulling open the dash again!

iDatalink Maestro RR2 Interface Module
Norman N from BOWIE, MD on 2/5/2025
2011 Toyota Tundra
Requires flashing; does the job well, but the installation manual just says it is for the RR not RR2. While it is confusing, it was cleared up with a call to tech support, who told us the connections had moved around, but to follow the color codes. The individual there at iDatalink was also versed in the Kenwood issue with the trim piece that covers the screen hinge of the DNR1007 being necessary to power up the unit (had us stumped and we found no reference to that in the instructions from Kenwood).
Pros: Does the job well of keeping steering wheel controls.
Cons: Install manual not accurate and for the RR not RR2.

I bought this unit, thinking it would allow my new radio head unit to access all features of my 2018 Subaru Outback. However, it just didn't quite work out that way. Yes, I could see some vehicle settings and set them up. Mysteriously, my TPS information disappeared from the vehicle dashboard. I assume that the TPS information would be shown up on the new radio head unit, but that hasn't happened. I was able to use the steering wheel controls to interact with the new radio head unit, so there's that. I feel I would have done perfectly fine with the older version of the Maestro Interface Module and maybe even kept the TPS info in the dashboard.

Very disappointed..
Doug from KALISPELL, MT on 10/25/2024
Junk... This SHOULD be plug and play or at Least come with instructions. I downloaded their worthless app and I can't get passed some verification screen. I SHOULD have just ordered everything from a different retailer and saved some money because the supposedly free "installation" instructions from Crutchfield were a joke. I've installed dozens of aftermarket stereo into different vehicles but the problem with these new "plug and play" solutions is that they are NOT "plug and play." I've attached several photos that clearly show that there is nothing on the components OR the expensive harnesses that indicate what goes where. This is a lot of money for harnesses and the Maestro rr2. No instructions from Crutchfield and nothing from Maestro other than a link to an app that is stuck on the photo shown below...
Pros: None....
Cons: HORRIBLE lack of instructions. WAY too expensive wiring harnesses.

Pros: Plug and play wiring. Easy to reprogram with Bluetooth from my phone without having to gain access to the module again once its installed.

I've been putting off upgrading my new model truck for a few years now as I've been away from car audio for a number of years. Then my trucks infotainment unit went out and after seeing the cost of OEM I decided to refresh my self and confidence I could do it. I spent a couple months trying to figure it out and decide a route. Between Crutchfield and my local car audio shops I was able to zero in on everything I needed to tackle the task and save myself 2k in the process The RR2, paired with the vehicle + display unit specific harnesses made the installation effortless. I didn't have to cut or solder anything! Sounds amazing with the new speakers I already installed from thinking my original problem was bad speakers. My wife ands kids are impressed, to which I say it was kinda my thing back in the day. Although now I see more vehicle upgrades in my future. So for all yas out there debating on if you still have it to try it in your new model vehicle, you do if you go this route for sure. Ya don't get scared on the first cut of the mod by having the right stuff the first time.
Pros: It was fool proof
Cons: More so for Crutchfield than the unit. Vehicle specific set ups would be nicer with a hard copy of vehicle specific instructions instead of just dismantling in a black and white pdf then referred to the product instructions. I'm not the greatest with the internet and apps. So that was the difficult part. I ended up watching more YouTube videos because what I was given was useless. Outside of that prices were the best I found for all I needed. The prebuying process was very nice.

Each year car manufacturers find new ways to keep consumers from upgrading their car stereos by passing controls and settings through the stereo. the Maestro makes unlocking all of that possible. Frustrating. Followed all of the instructions to connect this device. It would not work, contacted maestro support but they only tell me that the unit is defective. It took me a while to get to this project, so it's no longer returnable and I don't want to replace it. The first one went kaput.! Crutchfield was great in replacing it, however the issue with no illumination at night on my factory controls right above the A/C panel has not been resolved with Crutchfield and also Maestro! I have taken the front panels of my vehicle 6 times following their directions with no success! I have called Maestro about 5 times and Crutchfield about the same amount with no resolution, In the Maestro install guide for my vehicle that stipulate to not use certain connections, but If I follow this logic my backup camera doesn't work! The steering wheel controls work with my Pioneer 2550NEX- but I have no lights on the factory panel anymore right above the A/C controls, so at night I cannot see my front dash panel! Maestro installation instructions need to be more precise, and they should provide me some type of resolution to fix this problem, cost of the RR2 unit was this much, then the Harness for another 45.00 bucks, then the USB harness as well. I can't stand riding around at night and not able to see my instrument panels. I have to turn on the dome light to see what I'm doing. (Frustrating)

I love the Maestro RR2! Just installed a Kenwood head unit with the Maestro RR2 in my wife's minivan and it's awesome! Easy to set it up over Bluetooth in Maestro's app to choose my special options (like which button to hold to mute the sound, what happens when I long-hold the Seek-Up button, etc.). Now my Kenwood works beautifully with my steering wheel controls, AND gives me more vehicle info than I previously had (actual tire pressure, not just a low pressure warning like it was before). Great but lots of wires to stuff into the dash.
Kevin Michae from Perham, MN on 4/2/2024
Great, but be prepared to figure out a way to get all the wires tucked in! Overall, the Maestro Rr2 did everything it was supposed to. Technical support was available on a Sunday afternoon to advise when I had multiple connection issues, which was great! So far so good on my 13 Yukon. Retained all of the factory features: calls, microphone, rear entertainment, backup camera, and added some nice engine gauges to observe for things like Exhaust Gas Temps, transmission temp (better than OEM on the dash, and several more. I highly recommend it even if the cost is rather steep, but you get what you pay for.
Pros: Features and factory functionality retained. Additional features are added to your vehicle.
Cons: Lots of wires to deal with, which can be confusing. Some connections had to be figured out as the instructions were unclear. The backup camera is distorted and does not have guidelines.

Not sure what's going on with iDatalink on this one. For the price and being there flagship there isn't any documentation pertaining to the wiring diagram or output designation. All the links on their site are dead and blocked by the administrator. Even using AI to locate some schematics on a far corner of the web returns with dead ends. Lack of documentation leaves a bad taste in my wallet and concern that a company has one foot in the tech grave.
Pros: Ability to get creative with tech
Cons: Zero install material. Blocked off documentation. Dead links to info.

Good, not perfect
Donald from Vergennes, VT on 2/6/2024
With the Maestro car side and radio side harnesses, install went well. One caution is that it is possible for one of the cables to plug it in the wrong socket on the RR2, so check the diagram. One disappointment is that for my Prius plugin, it does not display any of hybrid system information that the original radio did. I like the added bending of lines on the rear camera for steering wheel position that was not on the original.
Pros: See your OBD data.
Cons: can't see hybrid data

Maestro Rr2
Nicholas from Fleetwood, PA on 1/29/2024
2021 Ram Promaster
Used the maestro Rr2 with the Kenwood DMX1057xr in a 2021 Promaster as a radio replacement. Highly recommend the maestro, it was easy to flash the firmware and easy to connect to the harness. The 6 connectors from the harness are of unique size which makes it easy to plug them in the right location on the maestro. When done, the transfer of all the functions from the OEM radio was complete and 100% functional. The configuration guide from Idata-link is the best I've seen, clear and easy to follow. I chose to solder the harness myself. If you don't want to solder, Crutchfield offers the option to have it crimped for $25.
Pros: Easy

iDatalink Maestro RR2 Interface Module
Charles Scott from VIDOR, TX on 10/15/2023

Love the flexibility this offers. The only issue is the instructions are a bit much. It explains install for a dozen different vehicles with very little guidance on what plugs into the unit and into which slot. I'm still working through getting my OBD date to show up on my head unit, and also had to pull everything back out to install the remote cable that it said I wouldn't need for steering wheel controls. It's a good unit but could benefit from someone spending time to detail connections rather than just a wiring diagram showing everything coming back to the box.

2015 Ford Focus and Pioneer DMH-2660NEX
Dave from Bloomington, IN on 9/17/2023
2015 Ford Focus
Working great in my 2015 Ford Focus with a Pioneer DMH-2660NEX. Only odd thing I encountered is that the head unit wasn't going into "night mode" automatically (when the headlights would turn on). There's no dedicated "illumination" line in the head unit harness in my car - it's communicated on the CAN bus - so it's supposed to be driven by the Maestro for my install. However, no matter what I did with the headlight switch or daylight sensor, the Maestro would never pull the illumination line high. Turns out the Maestro pulls this data off of the OBDII port, which I had refrained from hooking up initially since I thought it was only used for displaying gauge info on the head unit (which I didn't care about). I called iDatalink tech support, they said hook up the OBDII connection just to make sure, and sure enough, the illumination line started working as intended. Only other thing worth mentioning is that the vehicle compatibility list for the RR2 on the iDatalink website isn't accurate. It says that the RR2 is *not* compatible with my 2015 Focus (it points to the RR), but the Weblink flashing/programming app has my vehicle as a selection, and programs the RR2 without any complaint (and again, it's working great).

Retained Steering Wheel Controls for 2009 Silverado
Richard from Mount Pleasant, SC on 6/14/2023
2009 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
This works well - steering wheel controls work on my 2009 Silverado. I can summon Siri from the steering wheel. It does what it is supposed to. I knocked off a star because the flashing process wasn't smooth. You need to plug this into a computer and register it with the company and tie it to the serial number of the head unit. In order to do this you need to set up an account with the manufacturer - and this process was glitchy for me. It took several tries before they sent me the email to validate my account - it was frustrating. But once I got past that - it seems to do what it is supposed to do.
Pros: It works
Cons: Flashing process pre-install wasn't flawless.

Added Complexity and Not Stable
Thomas from SMYRNA, GA on 2/12/2023
2019 Toyota Sienna
Received first MRR2 with my order and it wouldn't power on the red wire to start radio. Spent an hour on the phone with iDatalink support and attempted resetting the MRR2 3 times while on the phone with them. Crutchfield was quick to replace the unit. The new unit didn't boot up the radio, but after resetting the MRR2, it booted the radio. I have had it installed for a little over a week and it has interrupted constant power at least twice, so the radio keeps looking equalizer settings and radio stations that have been programmed. The 2019 Toyota Sienna doesn't gain a lot of benefit from using this unit. I was hoping to use this to link in my Escort 360c radar detector, but with the stability issues of the MRR2 it isn't worth keeping. My neighbor has had an MRR2 installed in his SUV for about a year and his unit stopped working until he could reset the box.
Pros: Integrates nicely into the factory wiring. Can provide a lot of functions like radar detector integration into the radio.
Cons: Unstable. Drops constant power to radio while starting the engine.

Pros: Easy to program. Easy to install. Slots that fit zipties, making mounting this in a hidden location easy. Bluetooth reprogramability is a must after install, allowing me to tuck this away in the dash. Keeping factory functions and controls / buttons was a must for me.

Have a 2017 tundra that I installer a Kenwood dmx1037s with a maestro rr2 idatalink controller. I noticed immediately that my oem backup camera had squiggly lines on it whether the car was on or off. If I ran a DVD player into the same composite camera input the video was fine so I realized it was likely the 6.5 volts that the maestro rr2 putting out dirty DC voltage. I had wire a choke/cap filter to the power output of the maestro and through to the backup camera. Problem solved. If you are seeing this problem and have a maestro rr2 it's likely the same issue which this will fix. It is a pac css12
Pros: Keeps oem features
Cons: 6.5 DC power out for backup camera is dirty. Likely due to the fact this unit isn't large enough to house the components to clean up the power it's making in order to provide a clean camera view

Part of a kit I used for interfacing my Ford Focus SYNC system with my new Kenwood radio. Once your harness is wired to your radio jack. You need to program this to your car system with a computer. Worked well. Had to reset the Bluetooth up for my phone as i had moved it to the radio. After struggling to figure it out for a day, found out all i had to do is hit the steering wheel SYNC button and say phone. It asked do you want to set up, etc. I liked it's read me the text feature without pluging in for the android auto.
Pros: Very effective way to keep what you have on your car and get that android auto with that new radio.
Cons: Extra time setting up with the sign in process on the computer. Expensive system. Idatalink majestro's documentation could be better. Had to do some downloading. Their cable directons didn't even mention the computer thing. Directions for operating after being installed for different models cars and radios would have been nice.

This unit works pretty well, though we did have to flash multiple times, eventually reset, then flash yet again before I could finally get the WeblinkMaestro app (iOS) to connect successfully over Bluetooth. Everything is now working as expected. I have full steering wheel controls as well as OEM information going to my Kenwood DMX906S head unit.
Pros: - Works quickly with very little lag - Being able to reprogram what buttons do via the iOS app over Bluetooth is far more convenient than having to open the dash to re-flash - I like having the ability to add up to three custom devices in the future
Cons: - There was no indication that there were any problems with flashing. The WeblinkMaestro app could see the RR2, but simply could not pair. It's unclear if a firmware update was needed and ultimately fixed the problem. - The instructions, including which harnesses to connect were for the prior version, so it was not clear what connections were needed.

Not only do you keep the factory stuff downstream with no drama, you also get a deep dive into your vehicle thanks to the OBD2 connection.

Crutchfield recommended this product to integrate my aftermarket stereo build with my 2021 Subaru Crosstrek Starlink system. Using this system I was able to add an aftermarket headunit, amplifier, and speakers (6x9,6.5, 3.5) and keep all of my factory systems, including the Starlink functioning properly. It is a little pricey, however, it does what it is suppossed to do in a fairly complicated system. Highly recommend.
Pros: Factory Integration
Cons: Pricey

Maestro flashing problems
Guest from Jacksonville florida on 4/28/2021

Crutchfield support is great, the maestro unit not so much in my particular situation. I installed 3 Jensen cr 70v stereos in our other vehicles- a 2012 Chevy, a 2014 Ford Fusion and a 2004 expedition. I like the Jensen unit for the CarPlay feature and want to keep all cars in our family the same to enhance safety and minimize learning new Menus. All units had different setups to retain as much swc functionality, and with various degrees of sweat and Crutchfield support I was able to make all 3 work. Now to the maestro with the same Jensen cr70 radio in a 2018 Ford F-150. Total hassle. Blew a maestro unit during multiple plugging and unplugging to troubleshoot. Finally was able to get volume up and down and nothing else by missprogramming the maestro for a pioneer unit instead of a Jensen cr 70v to get that limited functionality. Bottom line tons of cash and lots of hours to have a head unit that only does volume from the steering wheel- not a step forward, but after sinking so much money and time I can't bear to put old stereo back in and lose face. I never should have done this project despite having successfully done 3 of the same radios in our other cars, all with great Crutchfield support and quick wiring harness. Maybe you will have better luck with a different head unit. Maestro is blaming Jensen for not updating their codes, but the fact that I got jensens to work in three different vehicles including two other fords makes me suspect the
Pros: Great Crutchfield tech support Quick wire harness is clutch Quick replacement of blown components with no hassle
Cons: Very limited swc functionality

iDatalink Maestro RR2 Interface Module

2019 Ram Promaster
Functionally this is awesome. But the documentation is lacking. None of the ports are labelled and I couldn't find anything in the manual. While most of the cables fit into only one port, there are a couple of exceptions. And to make matters worse, the instructions show a picture of the original version, not the RR2. I had to make a call to Crutchfield customer support to get an answer.
Pros: Does everything that it is supposed to.
Cons: Very poor documentation for such a technical item.

Easy peasy

Very easy to install, everything is plug and play and the program to flash it is very user friendly if you're just getting into car audio. Also offers Bluetooth pairing to flash module (very handy if module is already installed and needs to be re-flashed)
Pros: 90% of module wiring is plug and play. Retains many OEM vehicle functions.
Cons: If you want to change your steering wheel button configuration you have to re-flash the module (easier on rr2 than rr because rr2 offers Bluetooth flashing)

Very easy to install the iDatalink module. Works right the first time unlike other products I have tried. With the wiring harness and optional cables it could not have been an easier installation in my 2007 Chevy Tahoe LTZ with Bose and Rear Seat Entertainment
Pros: Ease of installation, Small size for tight spaces, Options for keeping factory options
Cons: None that I have found

It did not work as I expected or was told by an advisor. I could not retain my factory Sync USB inputs. That was a disappointment since I use both inputs...one for my iPhone and the other for a thumb drive. My Sync Bluetooth never worked correctly. If I made a call, the factory microphone would work but no sound would come out of the speakers. If a received a call, the microphone would not work but I could hear the caller over the speakers. After loosing the pairing of my phone and Sync, I could not re-pair them since the factory upper display would not show the four digit Sync number to enter into my phone. Also, my steering wheel buttons did not function properly. The volume and seek worked just fine but if I pressed the Sync voice button, the radio would just go to Sync Line In. I never could get the Sync lady's voice to come on. It's an awful lot of money for something that basically only gives me redundant gauges and tells me tire pressure. Thanks, but Ford already gave me those gauges right in front of my face and I know how to check my tire pressure with an actual gauge. I've decided to nix the steering wheel controls for now and opted for the basic Crux wiring adapter. I'll be sending all the idatalink stuff back.

Used this for a Kenwood 907S into an '18 Subaru Crosstrek. Although while getting ready to flash it for the car, it doesn't give the exact steering wheel as what's actually in the car. That steering wheel is shown for the Impreza. None the less, once it was flashed, everything played first time except handsfree hangup and answer controls. Not a deal breaker, but something to be aware of. Interfacing it to the car harness was awesome using the appropriate cable from Maestro.

This is an excellent multi-function interface for adapting an aftermarket head unit to your vehicle's wiring. Programming was straightforward using the included USB cable. The RR2 comes with a LOT of cables, so the wiring can be a little daunting at first. Overall great purchase. My only complaint is that it does not come with any type of mounting hardware for the unit itself. You are left to figure out how to stuff it behind your dash somewhere where it won't rattle. The inclusion of some adhesive pads or small zip ties would have been nice.

Works as advertised

Works as described. Bought this for my newly installed Pioneer DMH-WT8600NEX. Great way to keep all steering wheel functions/features AND a great way to add a few extras not included in the stock HU. Plug and play feature for my HU was awesome, made install much easier. Wireless updating needs some work but it's a brand new feature so I'm sure some updates will be forthcoming.
Pros: Plug and play feature. Adds extra features not accessible on stock HU. Wireless updating/flashing.
Cons: Wireless feature needs some work. It's a little bigger than the original RR unit so you'll have to find a place inside dash panel which may cause issues.

Works with 2013 F-250
Jose from Katy, TX on 6/1/2020
2013 Ford F-250 Super Duty
I installed this in a 2013 F250 King Ranch with the Sony System. I know that the website tells you it will not work fit, but it does. I replaced the headunit with Kenwood DMX7006s and all the functions of the OEM work. I was concerned about controlling the heated and cooled seat, as they are only controlled through the radio on the OEM, but the Mastro was able to provide that functionality. The install instructions are pretty good, but fail to let you know that when you have to relocate one of the control units, that there is a 7mm screw on the back which is difficult to get to. I now have CarPlay and did not have to upgrade to Sync 3 for $1400 and have much better sound. Worth the money if you want better sound!
Pros: Easy to install. Lots of videos by the manufacturer on YouTube.
Cons: Some feature programming requires a Windows PC
