Introducing Modus car and marine audio

odus started as a group of engineers and builders with one goal in mind: to bring a new standard of high-end audio to the world. In March of 2025, they established Modus as their name, and began showing off their cutting-edge audio gear. In their lineup, you’ll find sharp-looking and excellent sounding touchscreen receivers, alongside amplifiers that sound great and look the part, too. All built to high standards that audio lovers will appreciate.

Modus' story begins at D'Amore Engineering in California, home of some of the most trusted equipment in signal amplification. D'Amore Engineering partnered with Steve Meade Designs (SMD) to create some of the most useful tools for today's audio technicians for setting gains, determining crossovers, and much more. Some of the people behind these innovations helped start Modus with the goal of continuing to improve performance while maintaining the highest standards of audio fidelity, thermal management, and attractive design.

With that brief history out of the way, let's look at some of Modus' offerings.

Car stereos for the discerning driver

Modus digital multimedia receivers offer the highest levels of performance and features, and they look gorgeous to boot, thanks to optically bonded LCD screens. The 7" Modus AIM-7 car stereo boasts a shallow chassis that'll fit neatly in most double-DIN (4" tall) dash openings. Its bigger brother, the Modus AIM-10 car stereo, offers an adjustable 10.1" floating screen connected to a slim body that can fit in most single-DIN (2" tall) dash openings.

The similarities between the two stereos are numerous, and they include:

• wired and wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ connectivity
• digital signal processing (DSP)
• 15-band EQ with time alignment
• Burr-Brown digital-to-analog converters (DACs)
• myriad connections, including TOSLINK digital optical output, HDMI, USB-A and -C, and four camera inputs
• built-in HD Radio™ tuner and compatiblity with an optional SiriusXM satellite radio tuner
• 5-volt preamp outputs
• compatibility with iDatalink Maestro modules for factory steering wheel control retention

With either stereo you'll enjoy a wide array of options for entertainment, with a unique paneled display that'll save you from endless swiping. Where the stereos differ is pretty straightforward. The AIM-7 boasts six audio output channels compared to the AIM-10's eight. The AIM-10 offers a high-definition (1080p) display, whereas the AIM-7's screen brings 600p resolution to the table.

The AIM-10 also offers a slim control panel with tactile buttons and a knob which can be attached to the bezel, or you can leave it off for full control via touchscreeen. It affixes to the bezel's bottom via a simple connection and offers variable illumination to match your car's interior lighting. The panel's 3-way rotary knob and 8 push-buttons let you command power, volume, voice assistants, cameras, navigation, and more.

Car amplifiers for peak performance

Muscular Modus Portale series car amps sound great and provide serious power. They don't have a huge footprint thanks to high-efficiency Class-D circuitry and a compact, extruded-aluminum heatsink that lets them run cool. Their small size lets them fit in tight spaces, like behind your glove box or under a seat. They'll accept preamp- or speaker-level inputs, for flexibility when laying out your system. They're available in one-, four-, and six-channel configurations.

Marine receivers for rocking the boat

Modus hits the water running with a trio of outstanding marine digital media receivers. Their top-of-the-line Modus MX44 marine receiver boasts a 4.3" full-color TFT touchscreen display and 40 watts RMS per channel to four channels, while the other two models employ tactile buttons (or optional remotes) and provide 25 watts RMS per channel to six channels. All three stereos are IP66-built to handle harsh marine conditions, including salt, fog, UV rays, and extreme temperatures, and they'll work with NMEA-2000 systems.

All three receivers feature Bluetooth® connectivity and Modus' Party Mode feature, which lets users sync up with other Modus receivers within 330 feet, so the whole marina can sing along to the same song The Modus MX12 marine receiver boasts a 2.5" black-and-white screen, while the Modus MX23 marine receiver's 2.8" full-color display is easy on the eyes. All three receivers have a knurled (textured) metal knob. As mentioned above, the MX12 and MX23 also feature ergonomically flared buttons.

Durable marine amps for your vessel or off-road vehicle

Modus Mezzo series marine amplifiers also raise the bar for features and performance. Each amp carries two Modus innovations ideal for hot days out on the water or trail. The first is PREACT™ current-averaging technology, which reduces demand on the battery by regulating current draw. It also requires thinner wire from your battery to the amp than the average amp. The other is ACTEQ™ microprocessor-controlled protection, which monitors and adjusts output in real time to improve heat management and prevent clipping. No matter if your vehicle runs a 12-volt or 48-volt electrical system, these amps can handle the load with aplomb.

Mezzo amps also include programmable DSP features, so you can fine-tune your audio settings without adding yet another piece of gear. They're available in one-, four-, six-, and eight-channel varieties to suit your system.
