MusicCast is Yamaha's wireless multi-room audio system. It lets you stream music from your phone or tablet over your home network to a powered speaker, compatible home theater receiver, or even your existing stereo setup.
MusicCast is easy to use, and lets you play music from your library as well as popular streaming services like Pandora, SiriusXM and Spotify. Yamaha also offers high-res music streaming - up to 24/192. The free MusicCast app gives you touchscreen control over your music.
MusicCast also works with Bluetooth, so you can play music from even more devices/sources. And it's not just about streaming TO MusicCast. MusicCast players can also stream to connected devices. Listen with a pair of Bluetooth headphones, or expand your system to include an existing Bluetooth speaker.
Yamaha gives you a lot of ways to use MusicCast. They have dedicated MusicCast players, and MusicCast technology is built into many Yamaha sound bars and home theater receivers. In this video, we'll take a look at Yamaha wireless powered speakers and a couple ways to add MusicCast to your existing gear.
If you've got a pair of speakers you like, the WXA-50 MusicCast amplifier lets you connect directly to them with a strong 55 watts per channel. It's a compact, sturdy amp that you can place horizontally or vertically in your setup.
If you've already got an amp you love, you can add MusicCast with the WXC-50 preamp. It's small and solidly built, and like the amplifier it can stand horizontally or vertically. All you do is connect the WXC-50 to your system, or to a pair of powered speakers, and you can stream tunes over your network. It has a wide variety of connections so you can hook it up to almost any system or speakers.
If you're looking for an all-in-one player, choose one of Yamaha's powered MusicCast speakers. For smaller rooms, the WX-010 is a good choice. It's compact, but puts out a big sound that would easily fill small and mid-sized rooms. Since it's nice and small, it can fit in a space where a larger system can't. You just need a nearby electrical outlet.
For bigger rooms, the WX-030 puts out big, rich sound. It's larger than the WX-010, but not so large it takes over a shelf or table. A large passive radiator lets the WX-030 pump out deep bass. And all MusicCast components can integrate into your whole-house system.
MusicCast is easy to use. We like the fact that it gives you plenty of streaming options, from high-res files over WiFi to songs on your phone using Bluetooth. I find Musiccast to be difficult to connect and unreliable. Initially, my Yamaha RX-A2A would not connect to WiFi using my Android device. After too many hours and days I gave up. A year later, I tried it again and after many attempts it finally connected. It worked for about year or so then I lost WiFi due to a power loss. Everything, except MusicCast, connected once power returned. For the last 4 months I haven't been able to connect Musiccast to WiFi. I've followed all of the steps including updating the app, restarting my router, disconnecting power from the receiver, etc. It's a time drain! I'm ready to find something more reliable for my whole house audio!!

I have very similar concerns to those expressed here about MusicCast but see no response from Crutchfield. Do I have to ask the same questions to see an answer?

I have a Yamaha receiver and 2 musiccast surround speakers. The AR connects to the app easily. The surround speakers are another story. I have read and reread the manual, been on tech support several times and still have the issue connecting the three pieces together. I have a Sonos Arc, sub and 5's. The Sonos software is how the Yamaha music lost app should work. I don't recommend this system. I also have Klipsch wireless speakers that work well with bluetooth. Save yourself some frustration and get another product.

This isn't nearly as compatible as they make it sound. BlueTooth range is terrible and the ability to connect Wi-Fi speakers is limited to Yamaha devices for the most part. Room management is also limited - even if you get a speaker connected, the only way a room prompt occurs is if it is a Yamaha device. MusicCast app may be better than some but also lacking. It does support many sources as promised but search, album art, and general library management is limited. Their description is misleading.
